Hi, Below is my profile. 10th : 86 12th : 67 Btech : 69 Work ex : 2.5 years in IT as s/w developer.
Extra curriculars :nil in school and college. ;)
In office(at infosys) , i was keenly assosiated with some CSR activities. I am no longer working there, and i have switrched to another IT company.
I have not thought about GMAT at all. I dont even have an idea abot the test structure Was planning to give CAT alone this year.
With my profile, and considering that I am a little weak in Quant and somewhat good in Verbal and LI of CAT/XAT, do I stand a chance for this years Round 2 ISB calls? Seniors pls advise π
Hi Everyone! First of all, I would like to appreciate you all for all the effort you are putting in here to help the ISB aspirants:clap:
Could some one please evaluate my profile below and suggest how I can improve it please?
Indian IT Male (IIM )working for the last 4 years. Class X: 89% (topper of the class from class I to X) Class Xll: 91.2% Engg: 81.3% ( from NIT if that makes any difference at all;) ) International Exp: 16 months in England EC: singing(won a lot of prizes during school days), running race champion at school level, played cricket at college level, won a couple of quizzes at both school and college level. GMAT: Yet to take
I have a gmat of 710 with good acads and 3.5 years ex at Infosys, stats that might not write me off at ISB (I assume, given I'm a re-applicant).
Post graduation, I'm interested to pursue a job that deals with the globalization of the firm, say to represent the firm abroad.
Now, though ISB doesn't offer a course in International Business, I know the school is good at everything and helps me find my way out into the global market (with the global curriculum and Global Consulting Practicum). Nevertheless, what are my chances of getting into ISB with these goals in my mind. I mean to ask, Does ISB consider the applicants, interested in International Business.
Secondly, Why ISB has a less percentage of foreign students?
The no of foreigners who apply to ISB is less or the school has a low acceptance rate for foreigners?
If former is the case, why doesn't ISB come up with a course such as International business, which might attract people from varied cultures?
I'm a re-applicant from last year. In the feedback session, I was told to: - Improve my GMAT score if possible since I come from an engineering background (710 current score) - Differentiate myself a little more.
The way I see it I have 2 options: 1. Go ahead with the 710 and apply in the first round. -I have few career changes to my advantage here...few, not many!
2. Take the GMAT again and I HAVE to get a better score in the new format! - And apply in the 2nd round
Please help me decide. It feels like the red pill & blue pill from the Matrix!
Truly a catch22 situation! π I think while you do have time on your side you will need to invest relatively significant amount of time at least for the IR section to get going with. I feel you can read the feedback as "if possible" and give it a miss and rather invest your time in strengthening your essays and application details. The "some" changes if really presented well can sound like huge improvements. That said, the school average is 710 and your score is in that range. Maybe you can check with the ISB guys in their Info Sessions that might be scheduled for your city. You have a few Ad Com guys and alumni visiting the sessions. That might help you get a better perspective again.
1. Could anyone pls tell me whether any dis-adv'ntgs of applying in 2nd round for ISB?
To answer both your points, applying in Round 2 will NOT put you at any disadvantage. Just work towards a good GMAT score and a solid set of essays.
Since you are pushing your GMAT towards a later date, I would suggest you to not wait until GMAT is over, to begin writing your essays. Applicants tend to overlook the time and effort essays take and this can be fatal to the application.

Abid, I fear your career goals sound very broad and may not have been convincing enough for an admission.
"globalization of the firm" is far too broad. Firstly is globalization in the company's vision/ growth plan? If you were talking about Infosys specifically, its already a NASDAQ listed company and has a huge presence outside India (check out all the Fortune/ Forbes etc. ratings).
This career goal would make sense if you talked about helping a company that you are working in presently, go international and that's why you required the MBA. This is not the case with Infy.
Nevertheless, what are my chances of getting into ISB with these goals in my mind. I mean to ask, Does ISB consider the applicants, interested in International Business.
You need to work upon your goals and redefine/ refine them. ISB would specially look for that maturity when you are a re-applicant.
Secondly, Why ISB has a less percentage of foreign students?
can be best answered by the ISB staff. I encourage you to attend their info sessions which take place in all metros. Its one of the best ways to get to know a b-school.
Is there anybody from Pune applyin this year? Please PM
Puys, whats the state of your application as of now? Anyone done any essays?
And video essay, I am not sure what are they going to assess out of it. Should we directly begin with sentence "life to me is..." or some person intro also can be given?
Guys I have very bad extra curicular during my work-ex. I was always more focussed on my work.
However recently I have started engagin myself in CSR activities and extracuricular during schooling are also not that stellar.
Does not having good extra curicular affect my chances at ISB?
Hi ps25,
Extracurricular are like "good to have". Extra curriculars cannot guarantee you an admit. However, if you have really extraordinary profile - that, along with your career profile, can give you a slight edge in standing apart. For example, in our batch we have a professional singer (she sang in many movie playbacks and finalist of an All India talent hunt - but as a full time professional she was into Avionics.
Yes it does. ISB has a minimum work exp requirements of 2 years while the average is around 5 years for current year. Work exp is required for contributing effectively in your class and in your study groups. Peer to peer learning happens a lot at ISB - for that matter in any top global B-School. Hence, work exp becomes mandatory because what you bring on the table becomes imp. However, more than duration - the quality of work exp really matters.
