ISB Class of 2014 aspirants.

Hi,I am Vivek. The reason I am writing is because someone can throw some light on the eligibility factor for ISB considering my profile:
X- 78
Btech- 64
Work Ex - 8.5 years in IT
Designation: Associate consultant
GMAT- Planning to give in july 13..

Hello.. I am a an engineer by profession and have a work ex of 5 years..currently pursuing a company sponsored exec MBA from SP Jain Mumbai (PGEMP). Will this MBA degree help me or hinder my chances of pursuing a full time MBA program at ISB ?
@DIPANJANSAHA
Why would you even want to consider the ISB exec MBA when pursuing an SP JAIN exec MBA ?

Firstly the SP Jain Exec MBA allows me to learn a lot no doubt but as far as its market value is concerned it is low compared to a full time MBA..I do not get to sit for any campus recruitment (as i am being sponsored by company). A full time MBA after this from ISB will allow me to expand my chances in terms of new career options.

@ivyctor2010 and other seniors/alums ...
Below is my profile ... I applied in R2 this year and was rejected after the interview stage.
I gave an under par interview, so i believe that was the main reason for the rejection and the profile did not come into picture for the final result ...

Can you suggest me .. what aspects should i improve ... do i need to go for GMAT again?
I would be completing close to 5 years of work ex till next year at the time of joining
Recently i have been promoted at mt Organizations, extra curricular activities... i will keep on doing ... any other specific tip you would like to give.

GMAT: 700 (QA 50,VA 34,AWA 5)
Academics:
12th 70%(U.P. Board)
B.Tech: 72%
WE: 3.5 years - IT Services- Oracle(2011- present), Infosys(2009-11)

Extracurricular: Good
Young Professional Ambassador of Teach for India.
Make a Difference volunteer teacher.
Badminton district level player.
Cricket awards at Oracle
Painting awards at Oracle

Professional Achievements:
Accolades for my documentation.(Saved many man hours by proper documentation)
Helped in preparing a ppt for a client and won the client for Oracle.(Helped my organization directly wining business)
Rated among the best in my team at Oracle
Impart training to the new recruits.
Authored Test cases and executed them(Save many man hours by removing bugs from the application and put my organization in good light by giving the clients a bug free application)
Responsible for the Quality Assurance of the new features added.(Single contact point and wholly solely responsible for them)
Customer bugs testing(Deal with the customers directly and resolve issues faced by them)

Regarding my goals after ISB, i want to continue in the IT field as a technology consultant and then move on further till the decission making head positions in an organization, but when i said this in the interview, they just pounced on me and said you can read books and do courses and directly apply for the position in companies as MBA is not pre requisite for technology consultants.
@ivyctor2010,

Thank you for your reply I would work on the fields you highlighted.
Your response was very helful, thank you very much for the same.

MT

Has anyone heard about MYRA SCHOOL OF BUSINESS? What is your opinion about this new college offering similar faculty and curriculum as ISB does?

Eligibility is GMAT and 2 years of work experience (even this is not sacrosanct and there are exceptions). But if you are looking for a profile evaluation then please let me know more about your professional achievements and projects.

No need to give GMAT again. Invest in your professional profile a lot. Do more projects of responsibilities, if possible projects having a direct impact on revenue, customer experience and cost.

Write this better, what was the situation, what did you do and how much of cost did you save for the company

Can write this much better.

Fair enough, what was the impact of this training

This bug testing and QA are weak points, how do they differentiate you from 200 other QAs who will apply. Sorry if I sound rude but your JD cannot be your differentiating factor. Don't fall into this trap. Adcom members understand these things. Bring out real spikes in your profile. Did you ever handle a crises situation? Did you ever motivate a burntout team? Did you ever do a team building in a crunch situation? These examples count.

Why? You need to be very clear here, why a consultant and why not a tech lead or why not a product manager.

Yes this would be their argument to whoever they think is not clear about his or her goals. They may at times try to test the solidarity of your argument by providing such alternatives. And at that point you should have politely asserted that it's not just technology consulting, it's about learning how to manage and run a business, it's about team and leadership skills which one picks during an MBA. This answer to the question "Why MBA" is a very crucial one, this should be completely internalized, else counter questions will sink your ship.

Hi, already pursuing an MBA from a reputed institution will raise questions on the need for a second MBA, so be prepared to be grilled on this question. The main point here is that an adcom wants people who are very clear with their future goals. Who understand where they are coming from, what value add will and MBA do to them and who know where they would be 3 years down the line and a rough idea of long term goals as well. If you can convince them well then you win.

Hi Vikash,

You need to be clear on short/long term goals. Kindly let me know more about your acads. With the given information, you must aim for 700+ GMAT score. Your chances in b-schools will depend on skillfully written application essays and demonstrating professional achievements, leadership traits and other aptitudes during final interviews. You can try your chances in b-schools by clicking http://goo.gl/em5DX

Also recommend to write your GMAT by mid-June, so that you have sufficient time to devote on essays.

Let me know in case of other queries. You can PM your number to discuss over your profile or selection of b-schools.

Maya

730+ will be an added advantage. 700+ will be decent.

How does this fare in comparison with other employees in your organization, do offer a comparative basis and how are you differentiated from the lot. Another 300 asset managers are going to claim similar or better AUM improvements.

Every Portfoilo manager has to do this much minimal BD. How much of new business were you able to bring and what were the smart steps you took for achieving that.

All the above 5-6 points are just your JD, can't see any spikes in them. Bring your spikes out, they will make your application strong.
