@umeaz said:@ivyctor2010I have graduated in July 2012 and have been working since August 2012So when the class of 2015 starts in April 2014, will I be eligible to attend?I ask this as ISB has a minimum 2 year experience before joining rule. So will I have to wait till the class of 2016 or class of 2015 will be possible?
Morning Fellas!Just wanted to know that with 75% in Xth, 70% in XIIth and 58% in B.TechAnd work experience of around 6 years should one apply!(Or it is the waste of time and money)
Hi Shashank,
1. What is your GMAT score?
2. What are your short/long term goals?
3. Career post-MBA?
4. Leadership skills?
5. Achievements?
6. What will you bring to the class?
You need to stay focus on above pointers and then plan MBA.
Regards

Hi Guys,
I have just now joined pagalguy.Actually i am interested in the admissions for ISB 2014-15 batch.
I have done my BTECH+MBA from IIITM Gwalior(Indian Institute of Information Technology and Management). It was a 5 year dual degree course. As the MBA here was more technology focussed i am very keen now for applying in ISB.
Currently I am working as Business Analyst for TCS in Pittsburgh,USA for last 4 months and hope to work here for next few yearts if i do not get into ISB.I have a total experience of 2 years and 10 months.Earlier i was working in pune,India.Below are few details about my profile.
Education:
BTECH+MBA (CGPA 7.3)
12th class (78%)
10th class (89%)
Some of my achievements are:
Cleared CFA level 3.
Certified FRM.
Secured AIR 5406 in AIEEE and AIR 1018 in IIT screening in 2005.
Won many prizes at school and college level in various cultural, sports, technical and management fests.
In extra-curricular activities:
I have organized many events in college fests .I was a part of many organizing committees as well.
I was in the college team for Table tennis and have won few prizes in inter college competitions.
One thing i am concerned about is that i have not been active in extra-curricular activities after getting into job as i was most of the time busy with my CFA exams and other personal things.
If the experts here can provide me feedback/suggestions about my profile and how can i increase my chances of getting into ISB.Also what are the areas i need to focus on now.I still need to give GMAT but i think i am going well on that front.
Any advice/feedback/suggestion will be highly appreciated.
Thanks,
Vaibhav

2nd MBA pitch has to be very strong and convincing, that too why only after 2 year of working would be an important question. You need to be very clear on your post-MBA goals and how ISB MBA can now do a value add which an IIITM MBA could not.

Your profile is indeed differentiated but you still have to narrate some good team and leadership experiences.
One thing i am concerned about is that i have not been active in extra-curricular activities after getting into job as i was most of the time busy with my CFA exams and other personal things.
I think you should be more concerned about your professional profile and make it more strong. International exposure does help but unless you are in a client facing role, a backend job at an international location will not hold a very solid ground. Try to get into a role of responsibility where you are either leading a team (even if a small team) or you are in a role where you are directly talking to the client and your decisions impact customer experience significantly.

A GMAT of 700+ would help your case
Thanks a lot ivyctor2010 for your quick reply.Thankfully i am in a client facing role.
Hope to see you here in my further preparation :)
Hey, Please go through this professional snapshot briefly and tell me if ISB 2014 would be over ambitious.
Hey, Please go through this professional snapshot briefly and tell me if ISB 2014 would be over ambitious.Work ex: 2 years till date. Would be 3 years by 2014 admission season.
Company: A leading pvt. life insurance company as Asst. Manager.
Education:
PGDM from a B-School that ranks among top 50 on PG survey - 64% AND
B. Tech from a mediocre pvt. engg. institute with 58%.
Extra:
Licentiate from Insurance Institute of India
Certified in - TQM, Six Sigma (green belt), NCFM (IAPM module).
Prizes in quizzes, debates, creative writing etc. But nothing extra ordinary.
If 2014 is over ambitious, would you think the profile would be shortlisted by 2015? (Add 1 year work ex. Designation would be changed from Asst. Manager to Deputy Manager. Rest will, of course, remain the same).
Expected GMAT: 700
To add a bit more about my professional history,
As an Asst. Manager (Operations) I handle one vertical (renewals) independently for my region (Pan India is divided into 12 regions). Although I do not manage a team directly, I can mobilize resources as per my need. The work I do is indeed crucial to the company and if asked to elaborate further and give it a perspective, it wouldn't be a difficult job.
I completed my 1st PGDM in 2012. (Worked for 1 year in between engg. and 1st PGDM as a Business Developer for a small proprietorship in the education industry).
If asked to rationalize a 2nd MBA within such short span, the reasons I can churn out from top of my mind are
- MBA doesn't really teach, in terms of curriculum, as much as hands on work does. However, it add value in terms of peer interaction and networking. In these parameters, ISB gives an edge like no other.
- My 1st PGDM degree was focused on finance. I want to go for a course with a more holistic approach. I want to explore more ideas, more avenues and different possibilities in terms of a career.
- ISB gives a brand image that would last forever on a resume.
(any more specific or different rationalizations are welcome. I can convincingly make them my own.)

All this is right, but why do you need an MBA right now? Why do you need all these peer interaction and networking right now? What are your short-term goals?

M just playing, Devil's advocate here, wWhy not explore them in a job? Why an MBA?
- ISB gives a brand image that would last forever on a resume.
Very weak argument.
(any more specific or different rationalizations are welcome. I can convincingly make them my own.)
To be honest 2nd MBA admission is a tough nut to crack that too in such a short span of time. It may showcase the haziness you have towards your goals. Have you considered waiting it out for 1-2 more years and then going for ISB and other top schools?
Hi Ivyctor,
Hi Ivyctor,I have a few paper presentations to my credit during my engineering days and a few extracurricular activities such as cricket team member and volley ball player.
Paper presentation can be portrayed well, were these published in a national or an international conference or journal? If so it would be great research achievement.
Work experience - 3 years as on 23rd april 2013 and by 2014 i would be close to 4 years of work experience ( i am a 2009 passout)
Please describe a few projects/incidents/achievements from your work experience, it will help me evaluate your profile better.
Please let me know if anything more can be pursued during the available time to add more content to the profile to make a cut to the ISB class of 2014.
Professional, Professional, Professional experience β¦ yes I wrote that 3 times for the emphasis. Do not fall in trap of creating fake extra-curricular, joining NGO etc, if you have not worked on that front until now. When it comes to extra-curricular consistency over past few years is valued a lot. Right now please focus on your professional experience, get a role of responsibility or a strong client facing role where you do great value add to the client. These points will strengthen your profile. Start thinking about your goals in a clear manner; goal clarity is very important for top-notch B-schools.
Point 3) and 4) are great, try to quantify the impact in terms of numbers, how much was the cost reduction for your client, or how much more revenue was the client able to recognize before your work with that client, did that client give you repeat business after that? Do mention that in the essays.
Point for 2) and 5) are too technical.
In point 6) write stuff in layman language and focus on your inter-team coordination part, otherwise else the point is again on the technical side
7) should be presented as product management in limited capacity but do focus on final impact here else the point falls flat
8) too technical, adcom might be rarely interested in the fact that you were a J2SE professional or a J2ME or J2EE, I hope you get the drift of it, it's neither a very strong achievement nor a differentiating factor
Connect one of your achievements to one very strong client appreciation impact, makes your case stronger.
All in all a good profile, some amazingly written essays will get you an interview call for sure.

- I sketch, do graphic designs and write poetry on my blog www.heightofawesomeness.com
I am aiming at a score of 700+ in my GMAT. Planning to take it by July 2013.
Hi Arun,
You have an interesting profile, specifically the work you have done for the Kerala Government. However, it seems that you were not involved after 2010. Is there any way you can back up your continued interest on 'climate change' beyond this period?
More important, how does ISB fit into your plans if you are working towards a new venture by mid 2015? What is your business plan and is ISB vital for this plan? You would be required to answer this in the career goals essay and therefore you should have a solid reason ready to mention here (ISB's support/ resources for entrepreneurship)
ISB's average GMAT score is competitive at 710, therefore try to score around that (or more).

Hi,
2.5yrs - Software Engineer, Accenture1.5yrs - Business Development, Accenture (by 2014)
Have clear reasons for move from S/w to BD.
Aspirations:
- I would like to have a startup by August 2015, and I am working on prototyping a concept at the moment.
In your essays do talk of a long term vision for this startup.
Extra:- Indian delegate to Portugal for International Climate Youth Summit, 2009
- Founder and State Coordinator, GreenDream, Kerala's first climate youth movement
- State (Kerala) Coordinator for Indian Youth Climate Network (IYCN) , 2009-2010
Give ample space to this environmental conservation example in your essays. Do connect this to your propensity to drive effective changes through your leadership skills, that should be one connecting theme for all your essays.
- Student's Vice President, IEEE Kerala Section, 2009-2010
- IEEE Representative for 3 districts in Kerala, 2008-2010
Entrepreneurship:
- Enn: founded this while at college. Developed and sold a CRM and Order Management Software for a big retail client. Dropped the startup after a year.
This is one very positive point in your profile. Which means you are on a consistent track to follow your passion of entrepreneurship, and have gotten your hands dirty on it. This one point ties your professional background to your future goals very well.
I am aiming at a score of 700+ in my GMAT. Planning to take it by July 2013.
Yes 700+ would be good to have. 730+ would be an advantage.

Diversified profile would be an advantage. But this advantage would be on cashed upon if you include some strong professional achievements/projects of consequence into your essays.

Since your acads is weak, please aim for a GMAT of 720+
