[Ivyctor] When ISB adcom looks at your profile, they will give more weightage to your professional work exp at TCS than to your certifications. Simply because certifications are just enhancements to your career but your profession is what you do day in day out, it starts to define you in a way. So please describe to me top 3 achievements/incidents/projects at TCS which you have worked on and define you the most. This is crucial for me to evaluate your profile.

It would be great if you can improve your score, will specifically help for ISB, if not for NUS.
well... the designation given to me is Associate consultant. but its mostly technical work that involves interaction with clients/onsite folks. when u say improve my professional profile, what kind of work wud u suggest that i should be taking up. Though it depends on the opportunities available to me, it wud really help if you can help me get an idea of the kind of job profile that wud improve my chances. also, is it possible that i make up for whats lagging in my profile with my GMAT score?? what is the score that i shud be targetting? Thanks again.

If you are in a client facing role then it strengthens your profile, given that you understand the flow and run of business. You understand the role of all stake holders and how is the business creating value for the customers.

Take up positions of responsibility where you lead teams, get into a more business oriented role not completely non-technical but more of a technology management kind of role. For example a Business Analyst role over a S/w engineer role, a Product manager role over a database architect, I hope you get the drift of what I wish to imply.
@ivyctor2010 Hi !I have reading through your posts and profile reviews ... would like to have your views on mine too .. 10/12 th - 89%, Grad - BE(Mech) BIT Mesra (66.7)Work-Ex - 24 mnths (as on july '13) in ArcelorMittal (Design & Enggg. Center) Work involves providing engg. services to AM plants across the globe ... mainly for revamp/up gradation projects and also project management support. Also, I am the chief editor of the Kolkata Centre's quarterly Techno-management newsletter. I am also involved in starting an internal group for developing and sharing new technical skills for business addition and effective use of the lean time. In college I was the president of Photographic society(membership during my tenure increased from 30 to 210!! and significant addition to Clubs' finances) and Core society member for various inter-college fests. I also was the team member of the college team for SAE competition in which we designed and manufactured a all-terrain vehicle with supporting business plan. What are my chances of getting through and any areas of improvement ?? In recent mock GMAT practice tests (official ones) I got 650 and am confident of imrpoving it to 700 range. But what would be a good score with my profile ?? @ivyctor2010 Thanks in advance

This part of your profile will form 40-50% of your MBA essays, if not more. So you need to talk more about it here for a better profile eval.
Improve your professional profile a lot. If possible take a position of better responsibility where you manage a team of engineers who work on these gradation projects. Try to be in a role where you understand the final output of your Engineering work and how it affects the customer. Even in a B2B kind of setup, customer experience is very important.
One example from your extra-curricular experience would need to go into your essays. Choose the best one.
GMAT score should be 700+, that would be good to have at your profile. A score of 730+ should be an advantage.
Did any1 (rejects) get any feedback from the ISB? I am waiting and there has been absolutely no response. The last update was that it would be done once the admission process is over.
My friend (a re-pplicant R1) has updated me that he never received any feedback now or earlier.
@ivyctor2010Can u plz suggest me sumthing abt my profile? Will share details if required

Sure thing, I would be more than glad to analyze your profile, please share your professional (projects/achievements/incidents) and extra curricular achievements in detail. Also mention your GMAT score and short term and long term goals which you mention in the ISB essays.
Your profile is quite good in all, with decent work experience, awards at work and great team work. I can also see some awesome extra curricular in terms of cooking and fire safety. Especially cooking as consistent hobbies are always valued by adcom. However I see two caveats here:
1) Your profile is quite technical which puts you into the IT pool. So I am not sure if you brought out your best team and leadership achievements and wrote sharp differentiating factors that separate you from the lot, in your 1st ISB essay.
2) Your goals seem weak as you put them so I am curious to look at your essays, esp the 2nd one, the goals essays. Goal clarity is very important for ISB, them being a 1 year program.
I would like to attend the ISB 2014 MBA Program, and I'm glad to see some really evaluating profiles for candidates. Here's my profile, could you please let me know what views you have on my chances to be selected?

Hi Arun,
I believe you would stand a chance in ISB if you proficiently write about your skills, achievements, short/long term goals and post-MBA career in application essays and demonstrate the same during final interviews. You must target 700+ GMAT score to strengthen your chances.
Let me know in case of any other queries you might have.

Thanks for writing back Maya! Could you tell me what do the admission team actually look forward to in these essays> Additionally, I hear they removed the video preparation. What would be replacing this?

Hi Arun,
The b-school adcoms look for the candidates who can contribute to the classroom, have ability to work with others, can showcase professional success/behavior, ability to be successful academically and management experience.
I don't have any official note about removal of video essay this year. Will update soon!!

The Co2014 has already started their course on April 13th. So I have created a new discussion thread
@SPJ_aspirant ISB requires a minimum of 2 years of work experience, but if you have some really phenomenal achievements you may think of applying this year. There are no minimum GMAT cutoffs as such specified by ISB, however since the applicant pool is very competitive try to get a GMAT score of 710+. However if you could reach a score of 730+ it would be a great advantage.
You can calculate till the time they start in April 2014, by which you will have 2 years and 4 months of experience.
But please understand that quality of work experience is also a factor and considerably more important than quantity of work experience. If a person with 10 years of work experience applies and he has little to show on leadership, team building and customer experience, he/she may not get selected, but if a person with low work-experience has phenomenal achievements and can convince the adcom that he needs MBA at this stage they will gladly accept him/her.

Hi Vishal,
Slight confusion - academics were good or no? You've put in a googly there.
In any case- you have an interesting work experience. I don't think ISB gets more than a handful architects, so you would bring a fresh and probably creative approach to your teams/ class discussions.
The challenge before you will be to explain why you need a business degree - why is an MBA important in your future career. To expand, you should explain the following:
1. Your career growth so far
2. Your future career goals
3. The skill gap between the present career and the intended one.
4. How will ISB help you bridge the skill gap?
Essentially, emphasize on your skill gap and ISB's role in filling it.
Do your research by talking to ISB Alumni and find out the opportunities that ISB has to offer to people with your profile.
At the end of the day, a b-school looks out for people who bring diversity to the class. For ISB, you fill their need gap there, so your chances should be pretty good. Another point- make yourself desirable to ISB by showing your achievements in the right light.
Put in your best effort in the GMAT prep- a score more than ISB's class average of 710 is definitely desirable.
