Your chances depend solely on how well you present you application - whether you apply this year or next year. ISB has been accepting people with your kind of work experience (in number of years). A few questions that you can ask yourself are: Do you have notable achievements? Any opportunities to make an impact on your organization/ department? Any noteworthy extra curricular activities/ volunteering experience? If you have favorable answers for these questions, then you should apply this year. Would be glad to discuss further and help you make a decision.

I know of a case where one who worked in automotive manufacturing pre-ISB made it to Valcon consulting post ISB. Also at ISB you will have PRTM, Deloitte S&O; and Accenture operations practice hiring for Ops consulting roles. Your GMAT is decent but the best part is that you are clear on your post-MBA goals and that they tie in well with your current work experience. This is something which we have seen missing in applicants over the years. Work experience is on a lower side but if you can create a convincing case for yourself through some impeccable essays, you will have a higher chance of securing an interview call. Especially the goals essay this year is sharper than usual and will have far reaching impact even in your final interview. Your app story should be so convincing that B-school not only gives you an interview call but your interview quality also goes a notch up. Yes good essays can do that. You did not talk much about your extra curricular, do you have any achievements or story on extra-co side?

The main reason why I would like to do an MBA is because I need a career shift and a drastic one at that. I have been always interested in the marketing area although I do not have any work experience in that whatsoever. Post MBA I would like to be a Marketing manager, and know the product life cycle and determine the selling and pricing techniques. I do read a lot of books on Marketing.

I need to know need your help in the following areas
1) Areas of improvement in the coming months - what should I work on? extra curricular? Should I improve my GMAT score?
2) My post MBA aspiration - how realistic and probable is it for me to able to make that career shift? I am ready to take the extra step to make it possible. What is it that I can do to give a direction to my dreams?

Would really appreciate any feedback. Thank you!πŸ˜ƒ

@allwhite

1. Score well on the GMAT.

2. ISB's online application has very limited space to fill in the resume. Utilize it properly to tell your responsibilities and achievements.

3. Write relevant and logical essays. Presentation needs to be good as well.

4. Select recommenders who can speak highly of you.

Get these parts right, and half your battle will be won.

preferably, 700+

1. have clarity of thought and maturity

2. Show your impact in situations. Also demonstrate your leadership capabilities.

3. Clear career goals. They should be backed by some research at your end, for their plausibility.

4. mention specific benefits that would accrue to you through the ISB program. Many applicants do a copy paste from the website, which is so avoidable

It does not matter. Submit when your application is most prepared.

Hi.. I am aiming to Join ISB in 2014-15 batch for which I will be giving GMAT in August. I have a work experience of around 3.5 years after completing my BE ( Chemical ) from Thapar University in 2009. Since then I am working in a startup . I am the part of the initial few members who started this venture which is now a good name among its clientele. Our main domains are Security System and Customized Softwares. I have some confusion regarding me experience in case of admission to ISB

1) How do they evaluate my skills of working in startup?
2) Shift from Chemical to IT
3) I managed almost everything from Marketing to HR to Accounts of the company in begining but slowly we managed a good team
4) How should I show my experience?
5) I have been consistent in my qualification. 10th: 82%, 12th: 80%, BE: 8.26 CGPA
6) Is my experience enough for admission
7) How much should I target in GMAT
My aim is to do MBA from top B Schools either IIMs or ISB but before that I wanted to gain ample work experience which I think I have achieved. As far as future is concerned I would love to see myself having an indepth knowledge of Marketing and maintaining my integrity by setting an example for other girls.
Please reply so as I can start drafting my career with more enthusiamπŸ˜ƒ

@Akshi11 3.5 years of work exp. is sufficient to satisfy the work experience criteria. I would assume you have had a lot of learning in this phase, working on the venture, and infact, also making it profitable.

@Akshi11

1) How do they evaluate my skills of working in startup?

by what you tell them through your online resume section, essays and recommendations. Talk about your important skills over there.Look at the essay guidelines I have given for ISB.

@Akshi11

@Akshi11

2) Shift from Chemical to IT

not an issue. Most undergrads don't land up working in their area of specialization during engineering.

@Akshi11

3) I managed almost everything from Marketing to HR to Accounts of the company in begining but slowly we managed a good team

That's great. Mention it in the application. As a start up has lesser number of employees, multitasking becomes a requirement. Just present this in an impressive way, because many times, applicants tend to make a hodge podge of their essays because they are trying to say too much.

@Akshi11

4) How should I show my experience?

I didn't get your question.

@Akshi11

5) I have been consistent in my qualification. 10th: 82%, 12th: 80%, BE: 8.26 CGPA

That's nice. Now work towards getting a nice GMAT, because it is going to be a very important score for the admissions.

@Akshi11

6) Is my experience enough for admission

yeah, refer to my comment above.

@Akshi11

7) How much should I target in GMAT

720+. As they say, sky is the limit! Though I think taking GMAT in August is a little late.

@Akshi11

My aim is to do MBA from top B Schools either IIMs or ISB but before that I wanted to gain ample work experience which I think I have achieved. Wow, you are a girl! Good to see girls achieving so much πŸ˜ƒ :).
Your work experience depends largely on what you have achieved so far- some people are able to do a lot of stuff in a short period of time. For them, the need for an MBA may come faster, because they are ready to take on newer challenges.

If you think you are ready to move to the next level, then you are ready to roll!
