ISB Class of 2014 aspirants.

for an entreprenuer what is an ideal gmat score?

@ ashwinbali: There is nothing like an ideal GMAT score . It's just a part of your application .. The range I believe is from 570-780 so you can fall any where in that range and still make it . There are people with rejects at 780 and others who were accepted with 600s.. A good GMAT is definitely confidence boosting but its nothing more than a hygiene factor at least at ISB.. If you are confident on the strength of your application and essays , I dont see any reason why you shouldnt be in ...

@nik864u,@rahulg83...Me too

Hey!

My official score report was sent to ISB on 11th August (According to mba.com site). But ISB say they haven't recieved my GMAT scores yet..

Anybody faced the same problem? Any ideas about who I should contact? Already posted a query on the ISB site...

@[553064:nik864u] -- ya i am ready..

kindly suggest me the Suitable Coaching Programme for GMAT. I am bad in Essay. is there any idea/suggestion to improve upon it.

I am interested please go ahead.

I think IMS and TIME will be good for GMAT

@[404394:bhagirathi] Hey @[404394:bhagirathi]...Coaching centers are nothing but a normal feed program to take your through basic structure of GMAT.

I had an experience walking up to few GMAT centers in Noida/Delhi. I would suggest start preparing your self and keep an insight and reference using Kaplan/Manhattan study stuff. They have referential better stuff than any other.
For essays there is a set pattern that needs to be followed for AWA analysis/argument now we have IR you just need develop that particular trend and analyze the most practical way to answer the reasoned stuff.

Hi Raveeshrai,

You have impressive extra curriculars and the national level awards definitely add to your personality.

But what about the professional experience and achievements? An MBA is a professional degree so your accomplishments at work would matter more than the extra curricular ones- this is something you should keep in mind while writing your essays.

Its going to be impossible for anyone on this forum to tell you your chances with an increased GMAT score. It will definitely add to your candidacy, but the GMAT scores are equally complemented by other parts of the application, which is - your academic records, work related information, essays and recos. So you may as well make the other parts of the application stronger.

In any case, ISB's round 2 deadline is November 15th - another GMAT in December will be too late.

@apster said: @sudhir3127: I received my feedback. They said that the interview is where things went wrong. Otherwise the application was fine with a few places for adjustment. As this year I need to write the re-applicant essay as well as the video, i was wondering whether a complete overhaul of the common essay topics was required.
@ other re-applicants: What are you'll planning to do? Write the common essays from scratch or re-work the ones you submitted last year?

I am using my last year essays with minimum modification, feedback to me was around interviews saying my essays are good and comprehensive.

does a reapplicant needs to submit hi reco's again or the last years reco's will do????

Hi,
I am looking for feedback on my profile for ISB 2014 intake.

GMAT: 710 (gave the exam just 2 days back)

X: 87%
XII:82%
B.E. (Comp):72%(distinction from Pune university)

Current work experience:

2 yrs 2 months experience in a mid-size IT company in Pune . Worked on different applications of a telecom project. Promoted to Senior software engineer few months back. Professional experience includes analyzing critical issues, working in a strict deadline process, mentoring new team members, ability to adapt to work on new projects and interaction with clients.

EX: Very few to mention:

Participated and conducted various events at college level as well as in the company. Guitar, traveling, trekking are some activities..Member of a toastmasters club..A technical paper selected for International conference in Korea and published in IEEE journal..Taught some students for scholarship exam

Did not work for any social cause yet

Puys, please give some insights on following questions:

1. Should I apply in Sept round or Nov round? Considering that I have less time to work on building a good profile for Sept round. Also I will have to write essays in this short time. If I apply in November what are my chances, considering my average profile. Many have speculated that average profile software guys have less chance in second round of admissions.

2. If I apply in November what are the areas I should look for to improve on my profile? Or if I apply in Sept, what should I include more in my profile?

3. Recommendations as of now I am planning to get it from my immediate manager with whom I have worked since two years.

Please let me know what you all think! All the best to all the applicants

Rohan,

Your stats are in place for ISB. As an early career applicant you have the responsibility to demonstrate :

1. leadership potential. Seems like you have got many opportunities at work to demonstrate this. You can also talk about examples that stand out from your college days/ other extra curricular pursuits. Be sure to use ISB's first essay to explain the leadership traits that truly make you stand out and focus on just 2-3 traits, which you can explain in depth.

2. Clear career goals- you current job and the CFA suggest your interest in Finance. Strengthen this impression through a solid career plan. A lot of applicants don't do enough research on their career goals, and as a result, produce half baked answers in the essay. The career goals will haunt you right upto the interview stage, so its better to work on them now.

3. Explain why you need the MBA now

4. Explain why ISB

5. Explain how you will contribute at ISB and add to collective learning, despite being on the younger side.

To sum it up, your chances to get in to ISB are going to largely depend on how well you are able to present yourself.

Amit,

My belief is that when you are getting a second chance to prove your mettle, make the best possible use of this chance.

Your profile would have grown in some ways in the past one year. Use the reco to show this growth. Additionally your recommender can provide a third party perspective on how you have grown in the past one year, and revalidate what you have mentioned in the essays.

There is also a possibility that your recommender did not turn in an effective recommendation last year. So you can evaluate whether:

1. you would like to select a new recommender altogether.

2. give the same recommender more relevant/ impressive fodder to base his answers on.

We have a thread for reapplicants - go through it, it may just help you in your essay writing :

Hi all,

This forum has been great in answering my queries.
Hope to get a few more answers from you puys..

I'm applying to ISB class of 2014.

I'm a doctor and worked as a private practitioner from April 2010 to July 2011.
Then, in August 2011, I went abroad to take up a training post and am attached to a private medical college.
I don't get a salary, but I get an honorary stipend, which isn't a lot. So, I don't have a salary slip for the same, because it is only a stipend.

I did file my IT returns in India for the FY 2011-12, but since I acquired NRI status during this FY, this return doesn't show any income from August 2011 onwards.

So, what should I submit to the ISB when they ask for my salary slip or IT return?

I'm pretty much in a mess here.. :)

Valuable suggestions?
Thanks in advance!
