ISB Class of 2014 aspirants.

@sugamtaneja said: Hi all,
This forum has been great in answering my queries.
Hope to get a few more answers from you puys..
I'm applying to ISB class of 2014.
I'm a doctor and worked as a private practitioner from April 2010 to July 2011.
Then, in August 2011, I went abroad to take up a training post and am attached to a private medical college.
I don't get a salary, but I get an honorary stipend, which isn't a lot. So, I don't have a salary slip for the same, because it is only a stipend.
I did file my IT returns in India for the FY 2011-12, but since I acquired NRI status during this FY, this return doesn't show any income from August 2011 onwards.
So, what should I submit to the ISB when they ask for my salary slip or IT return?
I'm pretty much in a mess here..
Valuable suggestions?
Thanks in advance!
You got salary there?? If yes attach those pay slips. Otherwise email pgpadmissions and tell them .. they will revert back to you with proper way out..

does a reapplicant needs to submit hi reco's again or the last years reco's will do????

You can reuse your last year's recco ... but its always recommeneded to get a fresh recco , because u may want to highlight something that has changed in last 1 year

Rohan,

Your stats are in place for ISB. As an early career applicant you have the responsibility to demonstrate :

1. leadership potential. Seems like you have got many opportunities at work to demonstrate this. You can also talk about examples that stand out from your college days/ other extra curricular pursuits. Be sure to use ISB's first essay to explain the leadership traits that truly make you stand out and focus on just 2-3 traits, which you can explain in depth.

2. Clear career goals- you current job and the CFA suggest your interest in Finance. Strengthen this impression through a solid career plan. A lot of applicants don't do enough research on their career goals, and as a result, produce half baked answers in the essay. The career goals will haunt you right upto the interview stage, so its better to work on them now.

3. Explain why you need the MBA now

4. Explain why ISB

5. Explain how you will contribute at ISB and add to collective learning, despite being on the younger side.

To sum it up, your chances to get in to ISB are going to largely depend on how well you are able to present yourself.

Thanks a lot Namita for your feedback. I will work on the areas that you have mentioned.

Also, while going through the placements statistics, I saw the % of placements in Finance Industry and Function wise were on the lower side. So, will declaring a inclination towards Finance upfront go against me in my application or interviews ?

NO, it will not. Genuine career goals, which are also logical to a person's career path are far better than made up and unconvincing career goals. Just be sure that the path you have suggested makes sense and does not sound so easy that you can achieve it without the MBA.

Is gmat score 3-4 years older doesn't have a good impact as compared to the one taken 1-2 months ago??
(I took gmat on Aug 2009 i.e. just after my engineering and got 750)

@[526748:nolakhagaurav] As far as I know, it doesn't matter as long as the score is valid at the time of the end of the admission cycle and the score validity period is 5 yrs.

Hi

I am planning to take gmat in mid nov and apply for cycle 2 to isb.
Will the scores reach ISB on time.
Please clarify if i should take it earlier.

@[541819:Rajesh69] It says on the unofficial transcript that the scores will be reported to the mentioned schools within 3 weeks, but generally it is earlier than that...you should be fine, but if I were you, I would take it earlier enough in order to avoid any deadline issues...

You will need to do a good job of linking why your need the ISB program to advance your career goals, which should be related to a business function.

Hi Puys,

Do technical certifications need to be mentioned anywhere? Does it add any value to someone's app.?

Hi Puys,

Can the awards section contain only college an community level awards. Does it mean I can't include school level awards?

Hi Seniors,

I am planning to apply for ISB R1..To brief my background..

I am a project lead in a semi conductor giant with 6 years of Industry Experience..

Class X 84.13

Class X|| 80.8

BTECH (IT) 8.45

Got several accolades for my work at workplaces, client appreciation, some community experience I posses as a part of CSR activity ,remained a part of some committee in banaglore and received media coverage for a event's grand success

however my GMAT is on average side 660 on first attempt

I am highlighting my all round persona through essays Can any present batch ISB student help me with essay reviewing ..I will highly appreciate that:-)

Hello Basu

Can u Advise whether it will be good if an instance of leadership which i have mentioned in my essay is also mentioned by one of the evaluators, Will it appear to adcom as concocted story.

The incident which i have incident is the punch line which i dnt think any1 wud have mentioned.

Regards

Archit Anand

Any of the alums pls advise me asap on thee above issue as the evaluator is about lev india and i hav selected offline mode.

@architanana: iam also an applicant .. I don't think it's a problem if your evaluator also mentions the same story as you have in your essays !!!

Btw every applicant thinks the incident/ topic he/her have choosen is very unique and probably no one else would have choosen πŸ˜ƒ iam in the same boat as well !! All the best

@architanana: The reco and your app can have the same topics highlighted. If the evaluator has worked with you for a while, he or she will likely note the same achievements and the same will flow into the app and his/her reco as well. In fact a good reco would normally complement your application by reasserting the positives. Don't worry about this one..

@Sandbrick , Industry level tech certifications add value as they show performance/achievement at the workplace. Disregard technical certifications if your application is already full with other achievements. I am assuming you are talking about certifications like SCJP, CCNA/P and not ones issued by private training institutes.

@ankitkankane No hard and fast rule, but obviously recent awards(at workplace or community) always make more sense than awards received years ago(school awards). If you have space and if you feel it adds value, you should add whatever award you got, but if you need to choose between a recent award and one received 5-10 years ago, choosing the more recent one clearly makes more sense..
