A very good morning to you and the admissions team of ISB.
This is Sai Maddali a Tech Consultant with one of the Top IT companies for the past three years.
It would be great if you can provide me some help with the following question .
I am extremely passionate about corporate strategy and I want to be a consultant in that line.
--------------------------------------
I would like to know from you what kind of work experience I should equip myself with before joining ISB, to mould myself better with the knowledge that is facilitated over there.
What are the qualities that you expect to have in a potential student who wants to be a consultant in areas such as Strategy planning?
--------------------------------------
Your insights are highly appreciated.
Thanks,
Sai Maddali
Dear Shini,
Thank you for your patience.
Menon
Dear Sir,
Thank you so much for this detailed reply. I am happy that I could get an answer to my queries, despite the heavy inflow of questions that you must have had to answer daily.
Thanks,
Shini Menon
Dear sir,
This is a query regarding recommendations mentioned in your website it says:
"Please ensure you enter their official email addresses only since personal email addresses will not be considered."
I come from a PSU background and my recommenders do not have a official e-mail ID. Can in this case a personal e-mail ID will do or Is there any other method to get the recommendations.
Thanks in advance for your inputs.
Dear Sir,
Does the above recommendation mean that I can simultaneously opt for a distance learning programme and apply to ISB at the same time?
Also we have an option of achieving a B.Sc honours degree from Oxford Brookes University in partnership with ACCA, on the submission of a thesis to Oxford Brookes University, the score of which is based on an average of our level 1 and level 2 marks of ACCA. Is this also applicable?
John Cyril
Dear John,
We extremely regret as some wrong information has been conveyed to you. Your ACCA qualification will be treated at par with a bachelors degree, so you need not opt for a distance learning programme.
Since, you do not have 2 years of post qualification work exp (you will receive your ACCA degree in Aug 2008 only), you will not be eligible to apply. However, you can do so in Aug 2010, by then you will complete 2 years of post qualification work exp.

Dear Mr. Ranga Rao
I went thru the profile blogbut could find what I was looking for.
So I am posting my question in this forum
Below is a summary of my profile
1. MBA from IMT Ghaziabad full time 2004, Rank 5
2. Good academics all thru
3. Strong Extra curriculars debate, committees etc...
4. Strong work work experience 3 yrs with GE Money as Product Manager and last 1 year with The Royal Bank of Scotland as Sr Manager (Portfolio mangement)
5. 740 GMAT
My concern
My salary @ 16.5 L is considerable higher than the batch average. I want to build on my experience and move to consulting. Will I be able to get a job which pays more than 25L (my BEP).
Wat % of the batch was placed outside India...and what types of jobs these were. The website has little detail on this. Pls elaborate.
rgds
Nitin
Nitin,
Please note that ISB is a knowledge imparting institution and not a placement agency. Whether you get a salary of 25 lac or not, depends entirely on you, we do not guarantee anything. ISB provides you with world class facilities and gives you a platform that is at par with globally recognized schools. Now, how well you use this to benefit yourself depends upon your personal capabilities.
Regarding international placements, 111 international offers were made. For more details on placements, please follow the link http://www.isb.edu/pgp/Placement_Highlights.Shtml

Sir,
In the elective courses offered for semester 5th to 8th at ISB , I donot find any specify course pertaining to Human Resource Management.
Please advise which elective will be suitable for someone looking forward to build a career in HR.
Also, Please do let me know the approximate no. of companies that recruited people for HR positions from ISB last year.
Regards
Sakshi.
Sakshi,
We dont have HR as an elective. If you are looking for HR function you can look at our strategy, leadership and change management electives. These take care of the HR function.
Also, we do not have many students looking at the HR function. The number of companies coming here for HR is purely a function of Supply and demand. All the students looking into HR function have been placed with out any issues. We have approximately 20-25 companies recruiting for the HR function. There are companies which are purely HR based companies on one side and also other generic companies which recruit into their HR function.

Hi..
I had a question about the recommmendations...
I am as, majority of the applicants are, an IT guy..but I have worked as weekend Radio Jockey in a radio station for almost a year...last year.
I just wanted to ask that will one of the recommendations from my production manager at the radio station will carry some weight or will it be better if I get both my recommendations from the current industry itself.
I am asking this because ..
1) I was a Radio Jockey last year..not this.
2) It was just a weekend thing but I did receive a lot of recognition because of that.
Thanks

Ravager,
You can get recos from your ex-supervisor if you think it will add significant value to your application.

Riverdreams,
Your work ex will be taken into consideration provided if its on a full time basis. If you are operating the institute in partnership with somebody, then you can get reco from your partner. If that is not the case, then you mail us a list of people who you deal with on a daily basis, and we will advice you who you can opt for.

Sai,
Key things that will help your case are
- Gain more exposure into consulting assignments
- Understand - Case analytical platform
- Read books like McKinsey way/McKinsey mind etc. They give you an insight into what really happens in a consulting firm.
- However, consulting companies are not very particular of having a consulting background to be recruited into their roles. Exposure/knowledge about consulting will be an added advantage when you face the interviews.

Hi Sir
Thanks for the efforts which you are putting to solve queries of all puys.
My question is related to LOR. I am working in an IT firm since last 2 yrs and have a total experience of 2 yrs only. My question is whether I should ask my Tech. Lead for LOR or my project manager or director of engineering of my vertical. As far as LOR is concerned each of them should give me more or less equally good feedback i.e. in a nutshell what is the effect of position of the person from whom you are getting your LOR.
Further please also tell whether I should go for only one LOR from my company or other one also from my college(IIT Roorkee).
My last point is with GMAT scores receipt at ISB. My GMAT date is 11th of August. I was wondering if ISB would receive my official GMAT score before 15th Sep. By the way what is the weightage of AWA sections for ISB as I find myself little weak for that section. When should I start my application process so that everything reaches to ADCOM within time.
Thanks for your patience.
Hi Team,
I have some questions, answers to which I have not been able to find elsewhere. This is not a profile check.
1. I have 16 months of international experience in China out of a total of 26 months of work experience. If I elaborate on the depth and the quality of this experience using the optional essay to highlight my professional maturity, focus and leadership potential, would it substantially strengthen my overall application and negate the impact of my relatively low work experience.
2. Is the Proof of Income used only to confirm that the candidate is employed. Does it serve any other purpose during the application process ?
3. I am entitled to both off-shore and on-site compensation. Do I need to upload proof for both.
Thank You !!!
Warm Regards,
Shankar Ramachandran

thanks a ton sir really helpful info . but only one thing how do u differentiate between a part time and a full time ? i have a institute of my own and thats the only work that i do now . what r the requirements for some thing to be called as a full time work experience . thankuu so much sir for the earlier reply that really broke some of my myths.
Dear Sir,
I want to know about the teaching method followed at ISB. Does it rely more on case studies or is it an equal mix of case studies and classroom style teaching. Also,
Regards,
Dear Sir,
I would llike to know whether there is any concentration on Branding/Brand Management at ISB?
I had clicked on contact a alumni option from the ISB website because I have some specific questions I wanted to ask. And I got this reply back from ISB Admin:
"We have forwarded your details to XXXX, a current student to write to you directly."
But I have not got any call back from him though its been close to a week. What should I do?
Thanks for replying to the previous question.
Few more questions that come to my mind as i am filling the details in the online application form are:
1. Can we check if ISB has recieved the official score report for the GMAT ? If yes, how?
2. Is there any way to check if the recommendations sent by the recommendors have reached ISB?
3. I find that uploading a scanned passport size picture needs a lot of attention and care (as this might go wrong as shown in the sample wrongly uploaded pictures). Can one upload a digital passport picture with the requisite size and specifcations? Can some of the adcom members check if the file loaded is appropriate (as per the guidelines)?
I know these questions may sound a bit naive but i dont wanna be disqualified for such silly mistakes.
