1. I am a doctor and have a 98 percentile score in the United States Medical Licensing Examination(USMLE).- SHOULD I mention this score in my application, will it add strength to my application, and where should I mention it, CAN I mention it under awards or under activities. I don't have any international experience.
2. I have three research publications, will they add to my strength. Where should I mention them in my application.
3. Should I submit an optional essay- to explain why I have chosen MBA , though I am a doc.
4. I have last salary slip of Dec 2007, after that I Started my own clinic, and in my IT return I have not mentioned any self income from Jan 2008-March 2008, bcz in this period I was not in profit. so should I submit IT return or salary slip.
5. In my MD , my institution did not award any percentage. only a pass certificate. so should i leave that field blank. will the application software allow me to submit the application and will not show it as incomplete.
6. In MBBS, there was no CGPA, but only percentage of marks. However, the average percentage of a MBBS course is low than most other course and is quite variable among different medical colleges. so how will you be able to assess my MBBS percentage marks ? since I scored on the lower side.
6. Last but not the least, is it easy for a doctor to switch career. I know about the latest statistics, but can a doctor go into equity research?
thanks a lot waiting for your answers.
Saket,
Your queries have been answered pointwise below:
1) Please mention this in the optional essay. 2) Yes, they will definitely add strength to your application. You can write about them in the optional essay. 3) No, that wont be necessary. 4) Please upload your salary slip of Dec 2007 and explain in the optional essay as to why you are not submitting an IT return. 5) No, you will not be able to submit the application without this figure. You can feed any figure and then explain in the optional essay. 6) You need not worry in that context. The Admissions Committee has its own ways to gauge an applicants suitability for the programme. 7) In the past, we have had examples of Doctors switching to equity research. However, in the end it all depends on your personal capabilities.
Dear Sir, Thankx for the help. I am a doctor with BDS- India, MDS - Russia, PGD Hospital Adm-medvarsity (APOLLO), I have 4 years of experience in clinical side and I am also been active in social working. I have been charter president Rotaract Club and organised number of camps like Polio and Aids awarness rallies, Adult education camp, Donated stationary and clothes to needy students etc etc. I am also a registered Rotary International Dental Volunteer.
My GMAT score is 600/66 percentile with quantitative 35/42Percentile, Verbal 38/83 Percentile and AWA at 4.
I wanted to know if ISb will consider my being a doctor getting lower quantitative but good verbals?
If I get through ISB, I plan to have my career advancement only in health care industry, Am I right in this aspect or should I have a open minded approach?
Although I have very good social work but little to support. I believe that social working is done as a selfless thing, so i never took care of having records of them. I wanted to know how much social and volunteer work should i show?
Aged 32 I am a MBA from Symbiosis, Pune with > 6 years experience in Retail Financial Services currently working as Regional Manager - Sales for a vertical in a leading bank.
My queries are as follows -
My intention to enrol into ISB is to move away from my current business development function to a more business or marketing strategy / consulting function in services related organisations, is the same achievable basis prior placements in such of similair profile individuals in ISB ?
Is already being a MBA a hindrance to my ISB application, and
As am married are there paid jobs on campus which my wife - a MBA in HR herself can occupy herself with ?
Thanks for all the help you have been providing to prospective students here. My queries are as below:
1) How much importance is given to International Work-ex for people in the IT services sector by the AdCom.Do people w/o any int'l work-ex stand at at a relative disadvantage.
2) Does cross industry/domain exp stand healthy.
3) In case of entrepreneurship,do we need to back that with some kind of proof. I have just completed an assignment, for an intn'l firm but out of India, kind of purely offshore work for a small IT firm abroad.
I aplogise in case my queries seem to be repetitive.
Sir, Thanks for taking questions at Pagalguy. My Questions: 1. How good is ISB for enterpreneurship in comparison to Bapson and other B-schools in US? 2. Does ISB prepares case studies as well, or do they use case studies prepared by different universities? 3. Does ISB offers lifetime membership to ISB resources to its students (eg. SBS offers virtual library and other resources for alumni)? Thanks for your time. Regards, Chirag
I will be applying in Cycle 2 of the admissions process. I live in the US but will be traveling on vacation for a few days in December. If I am selected for an interview during the time I am on vacation, could I be interviewed at a different phone number than the one in my application? If I am required to call the interviewer this wont be a problem.
Thanks for the useful information provided in this thread.
I have few questions :
1. As ISB has increased the number of seats this year (560), How ISB plans to cope with this increase . I feel it would lead to a pressure on current resources ; I am particularly apprehensive about the quality of lectures , Individual attention to a student and increased competition during placements.
2. How important is AWA score in deciding admision. If Someone has a low score in AWA can he/she submit IELTS scores hoping that it would counter low AWA score. To add a perspective here I would like to state that I have a score of 4/6 in AWA but score of 8/9 in IELTS (General)
3. From ISB's point of view; Is there any difference in the Onsite Exp. (i.e. person sent abroad by a Domestic company ) and foriegn employment (i.e. person going abroad , taking up job and working on permanent rolls of a foriegn employer). Which case has an advantage?
Thanks for putting together a comparative sheet regarding various loan options on your site. Could you please also let us know about various pre-payment penalties for the various loan options, if there are any? I need this to compare against some other loan options.

Nikhel,
Yes, it is achievable depending upon the amount of effort you are ready to put in.
Your prior MBA will not act as a hindrance during the application process. However, you will have to explain the Adcom as to why you feel the need for another MBA.
Yes. A number of student spouses work on campus every year.

Puneet,
1) No, both are treated at par. However, having an international exp does add to the diversity factor. 2) Yes. 3)In case you are an entrepreneur, you will need to provide us with your latest IT return.

Dear Alchemistmba,
Once you are short listed for an interview, you will receive a mail containing the interview schedule. At that point of time, you can mail us your new location. A change in telephone number does not matter since you will be required to call the interviewer.

Does ISB actively discourage second MBA...???
Reallyittiam,
We understand that learning is a constant process and thus we do not discourage a second MBA. However, you will have to explain to us as to why you want to opt for another MBA. Admissions Team

Drsnt,
A good GMAT score will add strength to your application.
Healthcare sector is a very good option for somebody with your background. However, an open minded approach will never harm you.
There is no limit to how much of social work you can mention in your application.
Thanks a lot Dr.Menon and team, two more questions-
1.what should be listed under activities- 1. my research experience, thesis etc. 2. or my role a student representative in college. 3. or my other interest as in equity research. 4. or community work
what will qualify as an activity?
2.also in the optional essay, should I mention in points like- 1. USMLE score. 2. research publications. 3. why I uploaded salary slip and not IT return. 4. I did not get a percentage report in MD.
You told in answer to my queries that I should mention the above in my optional essay, but then I will not be able to write a ''true essay'', but a list of points.
Saket,
The Awards & Activities section has a drop down list of various categories. Please fill in the details according to that list. Awards & Activities Role as a student representative in college Community work Optional Essay Research experience, thesis etc. USMLE score. Research publications. Why I uploaded salary slip and not IT return. I did not get a percentage report in MD. Interest as in equity research A list of points in the optional essay will suffice but the information provided should not be repetitive. Admissions Team
