It's back! -[2008] Ask ISB-Hyderabad: Admission Director answers your queries!

Hello Admission team,

I want to know if one has to submit the proof of employement for the spouse ? Is any proof of income also required ? If yes, then is IT return necessary or employer's pay slip will suffice?

Will this fact that the spouse is employed or not have a bearing on the decision of tution waivers?

What are the criteria for deciding the eligibility for tution waivers?

Thanks a Lot.

Loosecontrol,

You need to submit your spouse income details only if you are applying for a scholarship. If your spouse is self employed, then you need to submit her latest IT return otherwise the latest salary slip.

Your spouse income will have an impact on your chances of getting a waiver as it is need based.

Hello,

I have a question regarding the recommendation letters. I did my Masters in Electrical Engineering in the US and have been working for about 2.5 years here. I work in the semiconductor design industry. It is pretty common in my area of work for projects to be as long as 2-3 years (or even more in some cases). In my case I have been predominantly working on one such project on the same team. I am planning to approach my team lead for one of the letters. I feel getting another from another senior colleague in the same team might be redundant and could have a lot of things in common with my team lead.

Given the nature of my case will it be acceptable to get the other letter from my manager from the previous place where I worked. I worked there for 8 months as an intern (40 hours a week) during my Masters program. I have been in touch with him both professionally and academically since then, meeting at conferences and research presentations. Also as a senior intern, my responsibilities were the same as that of a full time employee's.

I do understand that there has been a gap 2.5 years, but I feel that getting one from my former manager will really help to give a more diversified view of my personality.

Kindly let me know.

Thanks.

Dear Sir,

I would like to ask you about post ISB MBA options in the Automotive space.
Basically I would be interested in roles that allow me to partake in partnership analysis - I say this because my view of the auto industry is that as more and more electronic technology is pumped in- more and more Business to business relationship management will have to take place. I would like to be involved in roles which involve analyzing companies with a techno and a commercial perspective(which is why i chose to do MBA) and thereby help in decision making on forming partnerships between companies and maintaining relationships with them(I am not sure if i can give business development as a title to this job).
In so far as ISB, i am confident of it being the right choice to pick up the right business skills and principals, what i would like to know is, are there companies (Auto OEM's, Suppliers or consulting) who offer such roles more specifically in the Automotive Technology space. I have seen the placement list and could see one Auto OEM(GM Asia Pac) that had come for placements last year.

Can you elaborate on the sort of role that was offered to the people who got placed in that particular company and also on post MBA roles in the auto sector in general.

Request views on the same.

Many thanks
Nishant Khanna

Dear Sir,

Request your response to the same, if it is possible to throw some light on this query.

Thanks

Hi Team,

My GMAT examination originally scheduled for today has been re-scheduled by the test center due to local weather conditions.

My question if I can take the test only on the 27th of August, will I be able to apply for R1 cycle ?

Thanks,
Shankar

Nishant,

Automotive companies like TVS etc do come to the campus. The roles they offer are usually in marketing, business development, Manufacturing etc we are not aware of any Auto company coming in with the specific requirement you want. Your fitment is more into the consulting role in Strategy consulting. This could happen across industries including Automobiles. The GM Shanghai role was in treasury.

George,
If you are getting your recos online, then we do not need any hard copies. In your case, please opt for offline evaluation for that particular evaluator.
Admissions Team

Sir,

For offline part, is it enough that i get the reco on a white paper or is a letter head necessary.

Regards
George

PS: that multiple quote is not getting removed - Sorry

Sir,

I'm planning to take GMAT in November, mostly in the penultimate week.
Would I be able to meet the ISB application deadline of 1st Dec in that case?
Is there any additional process involved in addition to having a valid GMAT score?I have heard that the official score is made available after a couple of weeks after one's GMAT. Would that hinder the application process?
I would also like to ask you what proportion of the class comprises candidates from IT?
Mod Edit:Profile evaluation not allowed. In addition to a valid GMAT score, you have to fill out the ISB application form which consists of essays and submit recommendation letters. This is a time consuming process so please budget for it.

Thanks in advance,
Chinmay.

Mr. Sahay,

In your case, I will suggest that you retake the GMAT as it is the only current indicator of your academic potential. Since you have high work exp, you can also opt for our Executive Education if you do not wish to go for a full fledged 1 year programme.
Admissions Team

Thank you Mr Menon for your inputs.

Dear Admission Team,

I have some doubts while filling the application.
1> I have appeared for Gmat more than once. Should I enter the latest Gmat score?
2> I have passed from Visveswaraiah Technological University, where only the 5-8 semesters are considered for awarding the final degree. Should I take all the 8 semesters while calculating the CPGA or only 5-8 semesters. Please clarify.
3> I have done my schooling from KG to Class 12 (13 years) in a single school. For Year 12, should the dates attended be from the date I joined school to the date I left school. Also, I am not sure about the exact date when I joined and left school, but have a fair knowledge of the month and year. Please suggest on how should I proceed.

Your prompt reply will be highly appreciated

Kagarwalla,

1) We will consider your highest GMAT score.
2) Yes, you will have to consider all 8 semesters while calculating your CGPA.
3) You have to mention the start and end date of only your class XII. If you do not remember the dates, then put any date but correct month and year.

Manu,

Prima facie I would say your profile would be suitable for admission to the ISB. I would like to add that the admissions to ISB are very competitive and your actual admissions will depend on the quality of your application which includes essays, your past academic record, your GMAT score, the recommendation you get from the reviewers whom we will contact and your performance in the interview (assuming you are called for the admission interview). We really look at the overall quality of the experience and not haw fragmented or other wise it is.
