It's back! -[2008] Ask ISB-Hyderabad: Admission Director answers your queries!

Hi

I have a query with regard to GMAT. I have taken GMAT about 8 times and have managed to get the best score of 580 only!!! Now...its not that I am less intelligent or so...each time I have written....time for preparation has been a constraint along with the ego hurt that I am unable to score above 580.

I am a manager with HSBC exp. 5yrs 5 months.... I want to apply for courses starting 2009 at ISB-R2.

Considering the above, please suggest if I must be taking GMAT again...and if yes....How much must I score and how will ISB look at 9 times GMAT as?

Thanks in advance
Hemanth

Dear Sir,

I would like to request for change of interview location in case I get shortlisted. Is it possible? I have opted for telephonic i/v as I'm outside India and project situation is tight. But now I think I can go to India and have an in-person interview. I always prefer a in-person interview over a telephonic interview.

Can you please let me know the procedure.

Thanks

Dear Adcom,

I am an R1 applicant, Delhi interview candidate and have submitted my application on the 7th Sept.

My online status shows me "Application submitted online", however i have come to understand that for most people this has changed to "Application completed".

Have all applications been cleared up and the ones who have not yet had a change in status, have they been rendered incomplete, or is there still applications and time left for the rest to be updated.

Sir,

I am planning to apply in R2. I have few queries

1. How will I know that my GMAT score has reached ISB before the application deadline?

2. What is the role of the applicant current salary, is bigger salary viewed positively.

3. In your admission brochure, you have given the GMAT range of current batch as 580-780, is it true that the GMAT can be as low as 580. What kind of profile can compensate low GMAT.

Thank you.

Sunny,

1) You will only get to know about your GMAT once you submit your application.

2) An applicant's current salary helps us in assessing his career progression and his scholarship needs.

3) You need to have a truly exceptional profile to compensate for a low GMAT score.

Dear Menon,
If there are 2 questions that is making its round in probably many members in forum ,they are:
a) The number of applications received for R1, and
b) The number of candidates you envisage calling to interview.

Let us know of these details if you are at liberty to disclose it.

Thanks
Nikil

Nikil,

a) The number of applications recieved for R1 is just above 2000.
b) We cannot tell you the number as the applications are still being processed and it all depends on the quality of applications recieved. There is no fixed ratio.

Hemanth,

We will suggest that you retake the test only if you are confident that you can increase your score by 100 points. Also, we will advice that you take a month long break from work and prepare well for GMAT. There is no point in giving the test without good preparation.

Your repeated attempts at GMAT will not be viewed negatively.

Hi Team ISB,

I plan to apply during R2-am a Retail Professional-6+ yrs work ex by april 2009.I am currently designated as Marketing Manager in a Retail Start Up

My wife- Around 4 1/2 yrs work ex by april 2009, Is an IT professional and is currently designated as Senior Analyst, also plans to apply in R2.

How does ISB view- A Married couple applying together for the course?Does ISB encourage/discourage a married couple to apply simultaneously?

What are the Do's/Dont's recommended by ISB Admissions team in this regard?

How many married couple's are studying at ISB in the current batch or have passed out of earlier batches?

Secondly,In the scenario,if both of us get admission to ISB we would quit our respective jobs ,Would we individually be eligible for scholarships?

Anticipating a detailed response

thnks/rgds

Brand Manager

Brandmanager,

1) We encourage couples applying/joining the ISB simultaneously. There are no dos/dont's specifically for couples.
2) Currently, there is one couple that is pursuing the course simultaneously. We have not kept a track of such figures in the past.
3) You are individually eligible for scholarships.

Admissions Team
Dear Sir,
If I receive a message saying that my application completion status is complete. Can I take it for granted that ISB has received my GMAT scores too.

Thanks
Siva

Siva,

If your application status shows complete that means we have received you official GMAT score as well.

Hi Admissions Team,

I have a couple of questions on placements and statistics around these. I went through the website and the statistics there have been very helpful. I have 2 specific questions that I was hoping you would be kind enough to answer -

1) I realize that the Avg. Salaries for Domestic and Intl. have been provided y on y. However, is it possible that the "Median" salaries for both Domestic and Intl. for 2008 could be shared as I feel it is a better measure in some senses?

2) With 560 students this year, do you envisage some additional pressure on the support staff, especially CAS? Would it in anyway mean lesser time devoted per student, and lower time spent per candidate? I realize that ISB is contructing a new village for students. What are the additional increases in support infrastructure and personnel that ISB has planned for/planning?

Again, thanks a lot for taking the time answering our questions. Much appreciated.

Forbidden_apple,

1) For median salary figures, please visit page 60 of this thread.
2) For infrastructure support, please visit page 33 of this thread. As far as hiring of personnel staff is concerned, it is an internal matter and will be taken care of as and when required.

Dear Sir

The ISB site says:"Further update on short-listing will be available approximately 3 to 7 days before the interview date for the interview location you have chosen."

Now, the interview at Delhi starts as early as 13th of October and it ends in Hyderabad on 12th of November. I believe that ISB will not shortlist people based on their location. So, does this mean that they shortlist applicants upfront; however, they don't disclose whether the person got shortlisted before a week of interview date?

Thanks
@

Good afternoon AdCom,

On the ISB website, is the reported CTC the same as the salary offered plus the value of all benefits? If needed, please explain the way the CTC is calculated.

Additionally, what percentage of applications in Round 1 are from candidates located outside India?

Thank you,
AG

Dear ISB team,

I am self employed for the last 6 months. so at the time of interview , how do I prove that?
Do I bring an affidavit or something like that?

thanks

Saketverma,

We do not need any proof of your self employment.

Theapprentice,

Location has no effect on the shortlisting of an applicant apart from the fact that we do evaluate Delhi files first and then proceed to other city's files. This is done only because Delhi interviews are conducted first. Evaluation of files is done in the order of the cities where the interviews will be held first. As a result, we release the list of short listed candidates only 3-7 days in advance of interview date.
