Ivey Mba

Hey,

Ivey and Rotmans are the top 2 schools in Canada. After that, you have Schlich, Queens and then the others (according to me, others might think differently and that is great). Ivey and Rotmans are tier 1 and rest rest teir 2.

Queens and Schlich are top notch, and schulich has a large international presence and is repected globally. I plan to apply (and have already started working on) Rotmans/Queens/Schlich. These are the only 4 schools I am applying to in Canada, and then its off to the US and/or Europe (London). Ivey is my #1 choice, but if it does not go to plan, I will apply to the others.

Although Queens is good, I am having trouble justifying the tuition fee when compred to Schulich. Ivey and Rotmans I can justify the $70k+ fee, but for Queens I cannot.

Bottom line is, you have to see what school is the right FIT for your future goals and your learning style. I love the case based method that Ivey teaches, and this is similar to my undergrad experience. But your research will be the deciding factor.

The research results are same from my side too. I wont be applyin to US/Europe. It's canada or asia for me. My #1 choice was Ivey and rest schulich and queens, dependin on the specialization. Some how i still fell so disappointed for my interview gone bad, coz it was a great opportunity.

lets hope for the best..n will let u al knw if i submit applications of other school.

Bobby,

plzz do help me with the interview process of queens, aftr i get a call 😛

does anyone know the process of how Ivey informs you. Like an admit vs. ding vs. waitlist. Is there a certain way to inform people of each? i.e. admit = phone call and only phone call, ding = letter or email...etc?

Or can you get an email for an admit and anything goes.

Can anyone chime in?

Mansi

Go ahead with your application at Queens, dont worry I am here to help you on interview...

As you are in Canada so I am sure you have more insight of the B Schools in Canada.. What I hear from people that Ivey and Queens same value in Canada...and Rotman is also equivalent to them....Rest all are tier 2 colleges... but according to you Rotman and Ivey are tier 1 not Queens...

Can you tell me some more points where Queens lag Ivey??

I know both have different teaching method..but I heard that Queens also has good name in Canada

From my experience, and talking to MANY MANY people at work and outside of work, ( I work for HSBC banks wealth divison so I see professionals all the time), everyone always mentions Ivey vs Rotmans. These seem to be the two most respected schools in Canada (some view Ivey as # 1, other Rotmans) I personally give the edge to Ivey.

Where I think Queen lags, again this is personal opinion, is their location and they are not known for any "specilazation". At the MBA fair, I spoke with all three of these programs, and Queens is first to say they offer only a General MBA. Not to say that Ivey and Rotmans does not offer general, but they are really well known for their finance and consulting program.

But again, Queens is great and I do plan to apply there, but it might notbe the program for me since I wish to stay in finance.

Well I think you are right... Ivey is good for consulting and Rotman is for Finance.. for me I think General MBA is equally good... As I have 8 years of experience in Manufacturing Industry and a General MBA will help...

For sure. For some people, Queens would fit better then Ivey/Rotmans or even Harvard. All MBA programs are made to fit certain needs, and Queens seems to be the one for you.

The brand name does not mean everything when obtaining your MBA, its how you use it after, and the better the program fit your needs, the better you will use it.

I am sure that you will get through Ivey...

As far as Asian MBAs are concerned.. NUS and NTU has good repuation, if you wish to settle in Singapore...Dont go for AIM, Manila...not that good... HKUST if you are ready for learning Chinese lanuage.....and settle in HK or china

ISB definitely a good choice...do try there....

As you are female candidate if you improve your score a bit you can easily get in top 10 colleges....

Thanks bobby for d advice. i hav quite a different scenario since i m planin to work in the ngo industry only. worst case will do marketing and take electives on CSR. so depending on the both, will apply. both choice of b school and country of work depends on this. I have done quite a research on this and canada is my first choice. since it has ngo as an industry and the growth of this industry is more than the country growth itself. will learn quite a lot there.

University of geneva has an awsum mba in ngo management course which i am lookin forward to. It starts in aug and is 13 month course but the intake is juss 24. jobs are mainly in biggest ngo, international org and bodies like UN,WHO. I am dyin to get into this.

So the remainin colleges are in my list only if i cannot get into canada and the above course. And ISB, if i get thru 😛

its not looking to be the friday we expected...hehe...unless they do an afternoon thing.

soooo tempted to email them...

They better do

schulic India program has 35 seats and not many applicants are applying..increase the possibility of an admit

I met The schulic representative at the mba fair in Delhi..

I am not applying as the program starts in JAN, even before results of many B-schools would not be out

Thats good to know 😃

but the fee they are charging for indian duration is not justified..nevertheless..they say the faculty woukd fly from canada,so it should be good.

Ivey sent me a reminder mail to apply before 5th,but i would apply in second round

Why in the 2nd round? Ivey says the earlier you apply the better your chances....why would you advise someone to apply in the 2nd round as opposed to the 1st?or even early admissions for that matter
