MBAblackbelt,

Dont want to make you nervous and I am a strong believer no news is good news, but did you follow up with them? It has been about 6 weeks so I think it would be reasonable to contact them via email or phone.

I know its good to be patient, but I have not heard of anyone waiting 6 weeks for an interview invite, I got a feeling they might be missing some part of your application. I would just send a gentle reminder to check if anything is missing from your application.

Just my 2 cents....

Thanks man. But the reason I feel reluctant to ask them about whether there's anything missing in my application is that when I first submitted my application, I received an email from them thanking me for applying and that should there be anything missing in my application they will contact me. So because they haven't contacted me, shouldn't I assume that my application is complete? However, they also mentioned in their last email that I should hear from them from 2 weeks to 4 weeks. It's now obviously longer than 4 weeks, but I don't know whether it would be appropriate to contact them. what do yout think? And I also don't think they could keep me on hold like that if i'm suppose to get rejected...so i don't know what to think anymore

Yes, I agree you are in a tough position. I would personally follow up with them b/c it has been about 6 weeks and you would like to know the result as well so you have time to apply to other schools. I still think you will receive good news b/c as you said, if they wanted to reject you they would have already. But after waiting for about 6 weeks, I do not think a friendly reminder will be harmful. It might even help a bit b/c you showed how patient you have been for 6 weeks, and it is natural to want to at least have an update. Plus it shows your interest in the program.

But again, this is ultimately your call.

Well what I did was that I just sent an email to them. In my email, I've attached 2 letters that i received from my general manager thanking me for the great hard work I've contributed to the company. I told ivey that I'm sending them this attachment to clarify to them how dedicated I am to contribute for the benefit of my organization. I did that for 2 reasons: a) to remind them that i'm still waiting for a response in a very polite and indirect way b) to show them my strong interest in ivey by sending them a letter I received from my general manager to improve my chances of admission.

Then I mentioned in the end of the email that if they have any questions, that I will be more than happy to assist them. I did not ask about the status of my application at all because I didn't want to come across as someone who didn't understand their instructions from their first email.

so i hope i've done the right thing

Hey,

Yes, i think that is fine. At least now they will see your name on the email and will be reminded of your application. I do not know if they will use the letters as part of your application, but they might.

Either way, keep us updated and let us know when you hear from them. BTW, what other schools did you apply to? Or are you waiting for Ivey and then will apply to other?

yes, i've only applied to ivey, and will apply to other schools if i don't make it to ivey. the problem with applying to business schools is that every time i apply to a school, i have to get my boss involved in writing for me a recommendation letter. i don't like to disturb them. imagine this: if i apply to 5 schools, then my boss will have to write 5 recommendations! i can't keep disturbing them you know? that's my problem

I think you should hear back from them by December 6, 2009.

I wouldn't worry about it too much man. I caught up with a bunch of Ivey officers when they were out here last week... and they all indicated how busy they were. They've been on a heavy, heavy recruiting schedule which is probably why you're seeing a delay. Like somebody else mentioned, if they had outright rejected you already.. you'd know by know

On another note, has anybody had an interview lately? I've got one coming up in a couple of weeks and was wondering if Ivey decided to switch up some of their questions (besides all the normal Why MBA, Why Ivey ones)?

Thanks a lot man. your comment is very encouraging. With this type of delay I'm facing, then it looks like it's either an acceptance or a waitlist. I also hope that the fact that I'm permanent resident is probably why they don't need to get back to me quickly because Ivey probably gets back to the international students much sooner to give them enough time to apply for the visa, whereas the domestic students can just come to Canada at the very last minute. I hope that's their logic at least...lol...

Dont worry man
You will surely get a call
Your profile is really good and i think IVEY is very liberal in giving out interview calls
You will surely get a call and I agree with your theory of international applicants getting treated early before you

So relax and work on other apps

Cheers

I agree sillyfool about Ivey being liberal with interview calls. I do not think they ding people without interviews, and if they do, it is very rare.

MBAblackbelt, did you get a response to ur email?

What do you guys mean when you say that Ivey is liberal with their interview calls? well, I just checked my email and so far I got nothing in my inbox! that's really worrying....absolutely nothing since I've submitted my application on the 2nd of october, which is in the 1st round! and I'm seeing people who applied in the second round getting an interview invite. I honestly don't know anymore

Did they respond to the email you sent them 2 days ago? Who did you send it to? I found during the application process they were very responsive when I had a question and usually answered same day.

You might want to try to contact Niki. She is very responsive and quick to answer any questions.

I'd agree with this. The Ivey staff has been really good about following up any questions/concerns that come their way. I'm really surprised you haven't heard back with even an acknowledgement yet. You might want to consider following up at some point

Also.. I've got no numbers to back this up.. but I've heard that Ivey interviews something like 80% of all candidates. It's interesting that they'd interview so many whereas a school like Rotman interviews far, far less (so I've been told).

Yeah, before on the Ivey website (they changed it in the last few weeks), it says we interview a majority of applicants (this is what I mean by liberal). I am not sure about the numbers like 80%, but I do know that Rotmans is quick to ding ppl without an interview (or accept without an interview).

But MBAblackbelt, I really think you should follow up with Niki as she is great over email. You are almost going on 7 weeks now, and the Ivey website says they will respond with an interview invite in 2 weeks. I REALLY believe there is something missing on your app...or an email problem.

Oh yeah, I did get a response from the email I sent 2 days ago. I emailed Ms. Kathy. She thanked me for the email and she sounded so entusiastic and positive in her response. She even said thank you like this "Thank you!", so that sounded quite positive...hahah...yeah, they have been responsive to my emails, but no response as to whether I have an interview invite.
