Ivey Mba

Hi tdaic84
Just wanted to know (if u have the stats)
what is the conversion chances for a typical candidate who got an interview
I mean lets say ivey calls 100 people for interview How much do they select
I am just asking because i got an interview invite on this 28th in delhi and just want to know my chances

I just had a look at the website, but it says that an applicant MAY get interviewed....however, it also says that ALL admitted applicants are ultimately interviewed. So that freaks me out

Hey sillyfool,,

I do not think that is information Ivey releases. I read somewhere that Ivey gets around 500-600 applicants per intake (70 or so students are accepted per intake). Lets say that they interview 80% of the people as someone else mentioned (that is approx. 480 interviews) So Ivey accepts about 70 of a potential 480, which is roughly 15% or so (no calc with me :)..still in gmat form)

I know Niki mentioned in a certain blog or facebook that application this year are up (hence why I I did not get an admit for 2010 but 2011 instead) but I do not know to which degree they have increase. No numbers were mentioned.
Thanks man

Thanks man. But I honestly believe that I've been dinged. I'll tell you way: I just sent an email to another person from the admissions office. I asked her whether Ivey interviews all the accepted applicants or rather the majority of the applicants. She replied really quickly but she didn't answer my question! Because I think that she believes that if she answers this question, she has basically told me my fait 😉 She rather said that the committee is reviewing a number of files and that she hopes that the decision will come out very soon. She also said that the decision will first be communicated to me by email and then will be followed with a hard copy.

What do you think this means?

Thanks man for sharing this. Well, I replied again to Ivey to thank them for responding to me so quickly. I also told her that I don't mine how long it takes them to get back to me as long as I'm not the one who can be the cause of their delay. She replied that I don't need to be worried because the admissions committee have been travelling a lot for recruiting. So the admissions committee wants to give each applicant enough time to be reviewed seriously. so the reply made me feel better somehow, but the fact that she didn't answer the question of whether Ivey interviews all accepted applicants still gives me the cold rush...lool...

I feel like i'm now flying an airplane without a gps...lol

hehe...dont be so stressed!!! It will all work out for you MBAblackbelt!!
I dont thinkthey answer ur question b/c they dont want to lead u on or turn you off...so they send a safe email.

As for the ppl travelling...VERYTRUE! I always see the adcom on the road and they were in Asia for the last 2 weeks so they do not have time to review apps at all times. I am sure you will hear something (hopefully positive) VERY VERY SOON!!! and Friday is usually the day...most ppl get a call or email on Friday (as per previous psot and post from last eyar, and I got the call on Friday also) Sooooo maybe this friday u will get good news and can celebrate this weekend!!

thanks man, and I hope you're right....cause I'm starting to feel that this hard situation that I'm in is now the perfect time to get into drugs! hahah!!! So if people start to wonder the causes behind some people's addiction to drugs, then you better blame on the admissions committee!! hahah....

MBAblackbelt

you will get an interview call, Ivey takes interview of almost all applicants before sending them accept/ding. Well Admission committee is coming to singapore, because I got an email stating " Exclusive Invite for a dinner with Ivey admission director at Singapore" on 24 Nov.

It means admission committee is busy on visiting places. Moreover, the deadline is 6th Dec, so they will definitely process your application before that...

All the best

Hi Guys,

Thought of giving you an update on my Ivey class visit and interview today.

The interview ran for close to 45mins - usual questions related to why Ivey, what after MBA and why not an executive MBA (this is a question for applicants with more experience). I too had plenty of time to ask questions.

There was another person too who had scheduled his interview today who had applied in round 2.

The class visit was simply great. I have sat in another MBA class in another school before and I can tell you that the case study approach is truly different. It almost felt like it was orchestrated - the professor masterfully steered the class from one line of thought to the other before diving into the conclusions. As one other person described, it was as if the class had a plot and it was unravelling before you. The level of participation in the class was also awesome. It is a different approach and you really need to be sure if this fits you well (I did see one guy playing Solitaire and another playing Tetris - if you are that kind, you are better off not going to Ivey).

There were around 10-12 of us for the class visit - everybody from Toronto except myself. Having visited schools in Europe, it became even more clear how regional Ivey is. But that is how Ivey position's itself. So you need to be clear on where you want to spend your time post-MBA - if its Toronto/Canada, Ivey is a no-brainer.

The campus is quite small but its like a private castle and you are going to bump into your classmates very often - so there is no escaping being noticed in the class and no escape outside either! Its a sure shot way to build great relationships with your classmates. I also took the time to visit the main campus of the University of Western Ontario and believe me, its a huge campus. I visited the recreational area building and there is a ice hockey stadium in that building! The buildings look like from another era and it feels like you are in a classical university town. The Ivey building there is mostly used by HBA students, but some of the MBA electives take place there.

We also had a panel discussion with the faculty and its unbelievable how passionate they are about Ivey. One of the professors clearly put across the difference in learning at Ivey - the Cross Enterprise Leadership. He took the example of a case study class involving Wal-mart. The class runs for 4 hours with the first hour spent on operations and handled by one professor, followed by another professor handling finance, followed by another looking into accounting and finally yet another one concluding on the strategy. And that is pretty much the way the classes are scheduled - they are not simply classes to complete the course, rather a program woven around these case studies where one prof. prepares the ground for another one.

BTW, regarding the interviews, I was told that close to 85% of the applicants are interviewed - a really large number. I was also told that they get around 600-700 applications, but I am not quite sure if this was for the entire year or for each cohort. Now that the two cohorts are combined, 85% of 700 would be 595 out of which 140 would be admitted - that's close to 24% of the interviewed candidates - that's close to the number mentioned today by Niki, if I remember correctly.

Cheers!

GBH,

Amazing debrief!!! Everything you wrote is exactly how I felt when I did my class visit, I did mine about 8-9 months ago. Everyone in the school is VERY passionate and I also like the fact youo mentioned you cannot hide at Ivey.

I have 2 friends that go to Rotmans now, and it is NOT EVEN CLOSE to invey in terms of communication and gettin to know your classmates. As soon as class is done, if no one has any group work to do, they just go home and do it. This is b/c it is not a commuter school and most ppl live in Toronto. This give Ivey a big edge when it come to networking with your own classmate.

I also think that other guy who you mentioned had an interview was a guy named Adam. Hes a tall guy with brown hair. He went to undergraduate school with me and he mentioned to me he had an interview with the adcom today as well. Im sure both of your interviews went great!!!

Good job on the update!

That's right, tdadic84. It was Adam. He works in advertising. I had a great time talking to him yesterday.

Hi,

I got a telephonic interview scheduled on 25th nov. I totally agree with the number of interview calls. But i think they give more invites compared to the number of seats. We need to take into account all those who wont accept the admits once they get a better option.

The only thing that keeps me worried is that how come those who applied way after me have gotten their interview invites? Even if it's true that the admissions committee is doing a lot of travelling...then how come they're still able to send out for everyone else their interview invite? As of today, we have only 16 days left before the 6th of December arrives and yet I haven't received an interview invite. I believe I have more than 50% chance to receive a ding. Has anyone received teh final decision within only few days after the interview??

Hello,

I think after an interview, they usually tell you (once the interview is over) that it takes 2-3 weeks. The reason for this is that after your interview, they review you file once again with the adcom and career service centre.

After my inteview, it took me 5 weeks to get an answer. It does seem like the timing for you is a little tight, and maybe they will have to extend your decision date. I am not sure the process if they cannot review all the files on time. They might send out an email extending the 6th of December date for certain applicant. Either way....stay positive! I still feel if they wanted to ding you they would have.

Thanks man for your encouragement. I really appreciate it. So has Ivey ever done this before to other applicants? Like extending the decision date much later than the that posted on their website before accepting those applicants?
