@MBAblackbelt
My suggestion is you post this query in ivey admissions blog or visit their profile in facebook...rephrase the query a bit..
I am very surprised to see not a single admit from round 1 till date @PG.Is it that people with admits are not sharing the good news?:-(

I also had no commmunication after my interview for exactly 5 weeks. They then called me 2 days before the decision date. The decision date was on a sunday and they called me on Friday.
I dont think anyone recieves any updates and/or information after the interview. They simply call or email you one day and give you their decision. But according to Ivey, they always respond before the decision date.
But one thing was clear when they called me, Niki was VERY happy that I did not email them to follow up and thanked me while waiting, which makes me think that messaging them can tip the scale against you. Unless there is of course a good reason to contact them, and I think mbablackbelt has that good reason.
and RC150, i really think since the deadline is 6th dec (sunday), you will get a response the friday before. So do not stress and wait it out 2 more weeks!
@tdadic,yeah I think you r right..and thanks for the post..i have my fingers crossed..
Thanks man. But I honestly believe that I've been dinged. I'll tell you way: I just sent an email to another person from the admissions office. I asked her whether Ivey interviews all the accepted applicants or rather the majority of the applicants. She replied really quickly but she didn't answer my question! Because I think that she believes that if she answers this question, she has basically told me my fait 😉 She rather said that the committee is reviewing a number of files and that she hopes that the decision will come out very soon. She also said that the decision will first be communicated to me by email and then will be followed with a hard copy.
What do you think this means?
It's the standard reply. They just want to be professional.;) But don't worry, as you can do nothing now, just wait.
Hi Guys,
I was planning to apply to Ivey in R2 and had started the application process. However, I wrote my GMAT last week and got a really bad score - 640 (Q50, V26). So now I'm not sure what to do next. I'm planning to retake the test sometime in Dec but in case I do not score well, is a 640 good enough to be considered for admission?
Here's my profile:
10th - 70% (U.P. Board)
12th - 69% (U.P. Board)
B.Tech. (E&C;) - 74.92% Marks (U.P. Technical Univ.) - Passed out in 2004.
Decent extra-curriculars: Won prizes for singing, plays, choreography in inter-college fests.
Experience: 5+ years in one of India's top IT firms (with 2.5+ years experience in US (Chicago) - working for a major telecom client as a business analyst/onsite coordinator).
Can arrange some very good recommendations from the client as well as senior managers in my organization.
Please let me know if my profile is good enough to be considered even after such a low score.
Will really appreciate your help.
Thanks!

@musicnlyrics198: I think you should apply to R2. Your work experience is more than that of many fellow indian applicants and you have good international exposure. Besides, extracurricular in singing/choreography are certainly an advantage for you.
Do not be discouraged by poor GMAT score. It is not very bad score and secondly it is close to avg GMAT for Ivey.
Good Luck!!!
@sks81: Thanks a lot for those encouraging words! I'll go ahead with my application and try to come up with some really good essays to compensate my low score in verbal. Will put in my application for R2 :)
Cheers!

Hey...you do seem to have a pretty competitive profile (especially the US expeirence), but being an I/IT/Male with an un balanced GMAT score, I think you should re-write it. Having a V26 could be the deciding factor. You should still apply for R2, but there is an option on the application thats says re-write GMAT Y or N.
Although a 640 is a good score, and VERY close to the Ivey avg. of 660, they prefer to see balance in the Q and V, and it is very common for an IT experienced applicant score a high Q score.
Taking directly from the Ivey Facebook post:
Richard Ivey School of Business, MBA Recruiting and Admissions
1. A bit of both. We generally consider the GMAT score in its entirety, but we look at the breakdown of scores as well to see the balance between sections.
2. We only consider your last two years of marks when calculating the average.
Hope that helps!
According to this, I would suggest a re-write and it should not be a problem to get your score above 700. With a 50 in Q, you dont need to work on that anymore, and if you can get your V to about 31-33, that should break the 700 barrier for you and give you a more balanced score.
Just my 2 cents...ATB in the application process!
@tdadic84: Thank you so much. This is really helpful. I'll surely give one more shot to GMAT by mid next month. I know I surely deserve a score better than 26 in V. Guess it was a bad day for me.
Also, I'm planning to write TOEFL on 5th Dec. Hope everything falls in place. Thanks again!

Dear musicnlyrics198
I would suggest dont apply with this score. I applied last year with almost same score in Verbal and got reject from Ivey.
As an Indian applicant there is an intense competition, only 10% of the class will be Indians, so GMAT is a very big factor for selection.
As Someone has said a good GMAT can not guarantee admission but a bad GMAT will definitely keep u out from selections.
Apply agian for GMAT and try to get around 700....and apply again ASAP
In any case this is my personal experience and it is just a suggestion, you can discuss with others also and take their opinion also.
All the best
Bobby

Well I emailed Ms. Laurie, who replied REALLY FAST! Like she replied about 15 mins later. But I also did something else: I called Ms. Laurie pretending to ask about the MBA tour that the Admissions Commitee is involved in. I asked her about the different countries that Ivey visits because I claimed that I found it interesting to know the different parts of the world that Ivey has keen interest in. So she happily answered my question, and then I thanked her and we hanged up the phone. The purpose of calling her is so that she could hear my voice!!! It may not help much, but I thought it might at least make me stand out a little bit more among the hundreds of applications on her desk. I NEVER asked her about the status of my application and would like to keep it that way. As long as there's nothing missing from my application, that's what matters.
Have you guys heard of anyone from this forum who got dinged much earlier without getting interviewed?

Anyone at Ivey could interview you. Basically they have a form to follow, so the interview process is quite standard. After the interview, the committee would finalize their review of your file. In rare case, another interview may be required.

yeah, I'm already aware of it....but my concern is that it has been more than 6 weeks for me since I've submitted my application and until now I haven't received an interview invite. that's what scares me

Hey SillyFool,
You will only have 1 interview. Ivey streamlined everything and only 1 interview will take place with every applicant. The interview will be with either an adcom member, careers service team or ivey alumi. In a RARE circumstance will they request another interview, so expect only one and make sure you nail it!
For interview questions, you should look at this forum from page 10 on...you should see a majority of the questions as many people posted their interview experience. During mine (which was with a career service member) it lasted about 45 min, and was asked about 6-7 questions. They were all the basic ones: why ivey, why mba, why now, talk about a time I led a team, 3 characteristics I would like to see in my team members and walk me throught your resume. That was is, very short and sweet and it was more of a conversation then a interview. I even made a few "tasteful" jokes about the economy that got a laugh out of the interviewer which she seemed to like. And when she asked me my goal in the Ivey program and what I would consider a success while in the program..I said "simply to graduate"...which again she seemed to love...to which after I gave my real answer
I love to joke all the time so it came natural, but I made sure she would be responsive to the jokes and it happened after like 30 or so minutes, when I had a better grasp of her personality.
As for the anti-resume question, I believe that they are asking for something that does not show up on your resume. Not 100% sure, but I believe that is what someone on this forum mentioned.
ATB!!
Yo, Mr. T(dadic84)! Your GH friend Adam here. I've started looking around the interweb to see what I can dig up on people getting accepted and all (I'm applying to Ivey and am post-interview). It's nice that you're helping people out even after you received your acceptance. Kudos!
I'm sorry, but this thread is laboriously long. Could anyone tell me if there is word from anyone else getting accepted for 2010 (or 2011) intake? If so, if you could share some details on your bio/admissions process that would be fantastic...
I completed my application in time for round 2...so I can technically be waiting until January 4th, 2010 to find out if I get accepted. Looking through these forums occupies my mind 😛 Thanks in advance everyone!

Hey Adam!!
Yes, during my free time at work, I try to help out fellow applicants as much as I can. As for the people accepted , I think there is about 10-15 on this site (most are all indian applicants..I believe 2 or so are from Canada)...If you check pages 35-50 or so...you will see a majority of the people admitted as well as their profile that they posted. Dont get scared of their GMAT scores..lol...most people on here killed it..hahah
Well looks like the Ivey admissions team is still hard at work. Got a phonecall today with an admit for the 2011 session. They didn't say it outright, but i'm pretty sure it's because i'm short on work experience. Probably works out better.. gives me 1 more year to boost the resume and then some time to go travelling somewhere before school starts up.
Time to party up on the weekend!!
