Ivey Mba

Ivey is launching the new 1 year MSc Management/International Business program for inexperienced people with the CEMS alliance option - that of studying in 2-3 other business schools all over the world (predominantly Europe). I am looking forward to the reviews/placements of that program.

Anubhav, Would be really helpful if you could share your experience. I'm waitlisted at Ivey and could use some guidance on how to take it forward. Is there anyway that I can get in touch with you?

Thanks!

Just a small piece of advice which might come in handy... to all WAITLISTED folks

Well, just do remain in touch with the admin team. That does not mean sending out mails every 3rd day or wekly but let's say once in a 10-14 day period. In case you have something interesting going on, do make a mention of it to them as well.

The reason is that while on waitlist, there are several candidates like you. So, when handlng out the admission leter to the aitlisted canidates, ho do they know which one is the best? I guess Ivey has about 72 seats each year so that makes it real competitive. So you need to stand out in the crowd, right?

I was a waitlisted candidate for 2009 and had to defer my admit to e2010. So thats how I have an inkling as to what transpires. But yeah.. as of now I have sent a regret letter to Ivey coz I am short on finances. So it's neither Ivey nor Queens.. my GMAT journey still continues..

In case anybody needs any inuts/info/guidance on anything lemme know.. You guys can message me...

Ciao and All the best to the wait listed candidates..!

HI,

You can send me a message on PG and I shall revert back with the answers. I am currently travelling so will be unavailable over phone for now. However, I'll be back in another 4-5 days and then maybe we can have a chat. In the meantime, you can hoot me any questions here or send me a message.

Regards,
Anubhav

Thanks Anubhav - would really appreciate if we could do a quick chat once you're available on phone.

In the meanwhile can you pls tell me how did Ivey agree to defer your admission to the next year - did they promise you the admission beforehand (at the close of 2009 admissions) or re-assess your application along with the first round applicants of 2010 class?

Hello,

Well, any and every school does defer your admission provided you have a solid reason for it. In my case, it was very clear that I did not have 40 lakhs with me to pursue the program. The banks in India could give me 20 lakh loan but even after that I was short of around 7-8 lakhs.
I shared this info with Ivey guys and they understood that money is a major part of the requirement. So I guess they agreed to defer it.
Though yes, I was in touch with the entire admissions staff to try and secure any and every possible way of funding, so they knew it was a major concern.

In fact, I recieved an email sometime asking them if I was considering aplying to Ivey again But I guess I'll give the GMAT once more as a score of 650 could have dented my chances of a schol.

Do lemme know in case you wish to have answers to any other questions. I have PMed you my contact number.!

Hi Ankit
I have started with essays, hoping to apply by last week of April.

I have an admit with Hult for Sept 2010, but postponed it to 2011 since few personal and professional issues needed more attention this year.
Since Ivey is one school, I have been following for almost 2 years now. I just want to complete the work I started 2 yrs back :)

Regards
Arul

Hey Arul,
I will be taking toefl on 24thapril,but i guess it will take a fortnight to get the score and few days more to reach the university. So,if i submit my online application before 3rd may(including sending my transript and gmat score), then will my application be considered for early admission or will it be deferred due to non receipt/delay in receiving of toefl score??

Thanks,
Ankit

A correction here. IN case you have pursued your university degree where the medium of instruction was English and in case your marksheets are in English language then you need not give TOEFL. The TOEFL exam is waived provided the admissions committee is satisfied that you have had sufficient exposure to English language.
However, TOEFL scores are now becoming a requirement during your student visa process. Hence for obtaining a visa, you need the score.

Hope this helps clear some confusion and soothes some nerves as well ;)

Hey Anubhav,
thanks for chipping n for help..I dont have any prob in giving toefl..I will be giving it nayways as few other univ askit mandatorily..But since i was in time crunch to aplly in early admission deadline, that i asked this question.btw, both my bachelors and MS degree, marksheet and transcripts are in english.will a letter attached /email with my package (containing transcripts/marksheets)regarding the same will be enough to get a waiver or is thee anything else t be done to show the univ that i have got enough "exposure" to English?..
if i get this toefl thing clear, then am pretty sure to submit by may 3

thanks
Ankit

I fond this para in their brochure :-
"
Candidates whose native language is not English and who have not completed a university degree from an English speaking institution must take the TOEFL, IELTS or MELAB. An applicant who studied in English (i.e. India, Hong Kong, Pakistan, etc.), but whose first language is not English is not exempt from this requirement. No admission decisions are made without valid English proficiency test scores. "

any suggestion friends?

Chill man,
This requirement was there when I had applied. The markshets and university degree was suficient for them to come back and tell me that the TOEFL was n requried by them.
However, in your case, just in case they think that tyou would be requried to give the TOEFL, they will actually accept your application, review it and ask you to give the TOEFl exam. They will extend the offer of admission or an admission decision only after your TOEFL scores are submitted to them.
So in case you want to give the TOEFl exam post submission of your application to Ivey, you can do so. That ways you will get more time for your essays.
That's just my two piece advice. Hope it helps.

Cheers..

thanks buddy ..it definitely helped 😃

Ankit...
dont worry much abt tofel..
Just apply :)
As Anubhav pointed out.. if medium of study is English then Tofel is not mandatory ... u would be required to get a certificate from ur university that is all.
