Ivey Mba

Hi All....
Any interview updates???

Thanks demandez for helping all the prospective Ivey aspirants!!! I am targeting R2 and would be soon hitting the submit button :)

And yours truly is the one who started the Pre-Ivey thing in face book :hurray:. Talking about the pre-ivey program I had a good chat with Julia M from Ivey and Ivey is not posting any information on that regards in their website as the participating companies have still not given their approval (because of the tough economic situation we all are in).

But still Ivey is the place to be if you are a aspiring consultant ( I am one for sure)!!!

Shelin

I have accepted the offer and have already sent the deposit to Ivey. I hope this is a life time opportunity for me to get a chance to be a part of Ivey.

I am in the process of completing the loan formalities and visa requirements. With the current exchange rates , the tuition fees at the US colleges have gone through the roof. and that for Canada have come down. Let s see how it develops for the rest of the year. Its quite drastic as it has fluctuated by 25% in last few months..

I have got some excellent reviews from some of the alumni and some unbiased encouraging opinions from people working in CANADA.. The students at the last year spring intake are undergoing recruitment process currently.. i think within a month, we can get a rough picture of the first round of placements..

i am waiting for any new members to the ivey class of spring 09. i heard that there are only 5 students from india in the current class.... hope for a larger team this time..

satya

Hi Satya,
Looks like Id missed your post earlier.

I did inquire with the Bank of Baroda and I found the interest rates to be fairly expensive than their counterparts (Corporation and Syndicate banks offer at better rates). If you havent completed loan application process, please inquire with these banks.

I totally agree with your claim that CAD$ 100,000 should be sufficient to cover up all expenses for one person. You might need an additional $10000 if you are planning to take your spouse.

Ive no new updates on the pre Ivey internship, yet. I see that there has been some discussion about this on the face book page. Anyway, no official confirmation yet.

With just 3 more days for your tuition deposit deadline, am sure you must already have sent the money (If you'd accepted the offer). Sorry about my delayed reply. To the benefit of others, Tuition Fees for Universities abroad can be remitted as Demand Drafts in the required foreign currency. I got this provisioned by HDFC bank and they charged me Rs.200. Later Id Fedexed the DD to Ivey.

So did you decide on the offer yet?

hello,

any1 filling LBSIM form - it asks for cat center code with 3 digit column.

but our code consists of only two digits.. how 2 go about it..

Have they posted the schedule for Spring 09 yet? I think they had mentioned the Intl orientation around Apr 11th or so.

I am currently in Pune. Prep for Canada: well... I have not started yet. Some personal things to take care of!

The dates for spring class (starting May 2009) have already been finalised.
International orientation program, is set to start on April 20, 2009 (runs for a week). Preparatory Knowledge Program(PKP) that includes optional courses in accounting, statistics, excel and economics, to begin on April 27, 2009 (runs for two weeks). Actual classwork, to commence on May 11, 2009. hope this helps.

Thanks for the update!

Hi Guys,
Need some advice. I have submitted my online application on 6th Oct and havent heard from Ivey since. Can I ask if the application is on hold or something? Ivey has clearly specified that they will not appreciate applicants requesting for an interview. I have applied for Sept 2009 Cohort. Is it why they are delaying? It is pretty unnerving time for me Please advise.

Hi demandez!!
I remember talking to you last year around sept/oct, I know you wont recollect :), you were on leave that time (If I remember correctly) and couldnt talk much.

My profile is as follows:

GMAT:650
Work Ex: 5 years (Almost, 3 years satyam, 2 years Franklin Templeton Investments)
Acads: Avg, (70% in 10th, 84% in 12th, 69.1% in BTech (No flunks )).
Extra Currics: Avg, including a failed startup .

Do I have chances of getting a call from Richard Ivey?.

Also, ave heard that Canadians are protective abt their job market and wont let their jobs go to others easily, also non-canadian citizens are only allowed 3 months after their MBA to find a job and apply for PR, doesnt this situation worry you demandez??

Also, arent you worried abt the high program fees?(I recollect u are an IT Male too 😃 ) and how do u plan to earn the program fees back, are you confident of getting a job there?

Thanks for ur time :).

Hi demandez,

Can you please tell me how long after the second interview you can expect to hear of the decision from Ivey. I'm not keen on contacting the adcom because I dont want to appear pushy. Or should I contact them?

Thanks

Hi,

Congratulations to all who have received an admission and all the best who are waiting for a result. I have received an offer for the May'09 cohort. I am planning to make a class visit this 20th.

Wanted to get in touch with you and share thoughts regarding the Ivey MBA program.

Hi,

I appeared for the interview in September and have another round(third interview) in November end with the Admission Director. Ivey says its not unusual to have a third round of interview. Has someone gone through this process? Or, have you been called for the third round?

Thanks.

Hello Guys,
I received the interview invite for Ivey May Cohort and as per the email it is going to be a telephonic interview.

Can any one who has gone through the process please help me out with what to expect and what all things I should be preparing for?

Regards
Shelin

Good to hear that invites are going out. I applied just a day before the Nov 6 deadline and am waiting for mine.

Profile:
GMAT 690
28/M/Indian
Water Resources Planner
5 years of international work-exp

Good Luck to everyone.

I have a question about resume assessment. Back in september, i submitted a one page resume outlining my expereince. I got the reply back saying i need to furnish more information regarding my future goals and more detailed resume.

I will appreciate if somone, who has gone through the process, can guide me exactly what i need to submit.

Cheers,

Hey Darth
Couldnt remember your call, as youd rightly guessed ;-)
I think you have a good profile. Particularly, your Failed startup should easily add to the diversity factor. The average GMAT score at Ivey is approx 660. Do ensure additional efforts to explain the weaker sections such as your BTech academics and convince the Adcom that you are academically capable.
Do I have chances of getting a call from Richard Ivey?
To comment on your chances: I dont think anyone other than the admission committee themselves, could do that. Try requesting the complimentary resume assessment available at the Ivey admissions page. This might help you to check whether you are loosing any obvious criterion for getting admitted. Iveys admission criteria is comparable to the processes of any top Bschool. It evaluates multiple aspects such as GMAT, academics, recommendations, essays, work experience, brand names, diversity, extra curricular activities, leadership capabilities and most important of them all: interviews. You may want to review my blog post.

Non-canadian citizens are only allowed 3 months after their MBA to find a job and apply for PR. doesnt this situation worry you demandez??
Canada has been traditionally a receptive country. Further, if you are graduating from Canada, work permit is assured for 3 years (if your program length is 2 years) or equal to the length of the program (if greater than 8 months and less than 2 years). Refer to Backgrounder - Post-Graduation Work Permit Program for details.
Arent you worried abt the high program fees?
Yes, am worried about this either. But as far as academics are concerned, Ive been hearing that its worth an investment and now completely convinced to give my best shot. I anticipate that the world economy recovers by the time I graduate. I wish I could kick-start with a strategy/management consulting position post-MBA. I might have to rely on technology consulting companies as backup options.
Are you confident of getting a job there?
Optimistically Yes
Realistically Hopeful
;-)
Most recent placement statistics (2007-200placement statistics (2007-200 from Ivey - May be of some help.
