HI everybody.. even i m confused about the same... MY DGPA is 8.16 but not sure whetherto put 81.6 or 74.1.. Also m frm ICSE background and for my boards results i fill the best of 5 for 10 and best of 4 subjects %.... Want clarifications esp the WBUT one...

@[551977:DeathForce] Dont have to do any such conversions... only IIM shillong requires a DGPA >8.43... And for others u dont have to do any conversions...

P:S - I was a wbut student too....

hey allan.. Thanks dude.. DO u know wat to do with the ICSE and ISC %tges.. HEY r u studying in a B school??

For ICSE & ISC, it's is best of 5 (INCLUDING ENGLISH) & best of 4 (INCLUDING ENGLISH) respectively( It means of the respective best 5 & 4, English has to be one!). It is the norm of the the ICSE & ISC board for sure.

For DGPA, I know many seniors of WBUT who have given the (-.75) combination as their final DGPA in their cat forms. So dont know the explicit norm though.

P.S: Am a ICSE & ISC student & that's what I have been told repeatedly by my Principal of School back then when i got my results who is also in a powerful position of the ICSE Board!
For DGPA, Am NOT A WBUT student though! Better if you confirm it from any of your seniors.Hope it helps!

as @[443413:Anirban9] said, for ICSE and ISC. I am not studying in a bschool .passed out this year.

@[522923:allan89] & @[443413:Anirban9]

Thanks for the info. even last year I gave aggregate for X ,XII (CISCE) but later came to know from most reliable sources that we need to follow best of 5,4 (respectively) rules.

For WBUT I am still clueless, but in B-School forms(almost all B-School I have applied for last year) they ask for Grad. % so in that case what shall I do ? Direct x10 or that -.75 rule.....

(What I did last year)For all the WBUT students: if you have already passed out then you must have your final year certificate, in which the DGPA is mentioned but nothing about the percentage. Last year in every b-school form I wrote that figure(without any -0.75 kinda thing). In case where % is necessary, just did it by *10. Ultimately in the verification process u can show them the FINAL CERTIFICATE contains the dgpa(no %) & in the final semester marksheet the calculation of dgpa.

ps : I am yet to find any "OFFICIAL" document/rule regarding wbut's percentage conversion. If anyone has it, then enlighten poor souls like us

I am from JU...but I have friends from WBUT who gave their DGPA*10 percentage, and are now into premier IIMs without facing any difficulty regarding the percentage...in case you want to contact, ping BatTheCat...he's now in IIM C...
The only problem arises in the Class 10 and 12, if you take best of some subjects....during my interviews, I encountered numerous students who had the same problem, had given their best of 4/5 marks, and were instructed to rewrite their percentages calculating all subjects...while filling the CAT form, you can write best of whatever your board rules are...but once in the interview(at least IIM A,B,C,L,Sh did this year), they ask you to take all the subjects into consideration....

@talk2sankha said: @S.K.S Actually in West Bengal University there is a hidden rule of calculating Percentage = (DGPA-0.75)*10......so any guys from WBUT or any of your friends have any idea regarding this percentage conversion......some are of the opinion of DGPA*10 and some of (DGPA-0.75)*10.
SO @S.K.S are you from WBUT or any of your friend who can help us solving this mystery.

@[267236:tamal220187] hi tamal... i passed out lst year from wbut, (to be specific : govt volg of engg & ceramic tech) my dgpa is 8.2x and in 10/12 : 86/77.xx

so wat shud be my dgpa?? 8.2 or (8.2-0.75)=74.50 ? I am a CAT 2012 aspirant, pls answer me...ATB to all.

@[509175:S.K.S] Thanks for the reply.........Now the best part.........

********************The Callousness of WBUT*************************
One of my friends called them and they told that no such rule as (DGPA-0.75)*10 exists but when asked for confirmation whether he can give DGPA*10 they told that they cannot comment............................
But it is decided that I will give DGPA*10..............................
Final came to the decision,I have sufficient support and proof for DGPA*10

Adding to what @[509175:S.K.S] said.....in my Bangalore i/w, there was one guy on the verge of tears when it came to light that he had taken the best 5 and best 4 subjects at X and XII std respectively and the marks in the subject he excluded was substantially low which was bringing down his average % by a significant margin. He was on the point of being rejected before his i/w itself . Dunno what transpired ultimately as I had to go in next for my i/w. The point I am trying to make is include all the subjects in case of ICSE/CBSE boards. They WILL calculate the aggregate of all the marks. So, don't take a chance .

P.S. I added up all the marks in my marks sheet and calculated the %. Nothing more, Nothing less

There is no rule in ICSE/ISC which says that percentage should be calculated using best 5/best 4......

The norm is that if you pass in 5/4 subjects including English in ICSE/ISC then you have passed......and for years people have assumed this is the way to calculate the percentage......but there is now written proof saying it is......

Last year in IIM A and C interviews they calculated the percentage by adding up all the marks......I had entered my percentage that way itself and hence there wasn't any issue......not sure if anyone entered best 5/4 and managed to convince them about that being the right way......

last year 1 of my friends from the icse/isc board entered marks using best 5/best 4 and now studies in iim k.but this year they have explicitly mentioned in the cat 2012 registration guide that we have to take all subjects mentioned in the marksheet.

so that means we'll fill the aggregate marks for class ten and twelve n nt best five/best 4
for wbut will it b dgpa*10 ????
sum1 plz confirm
the link fr cat reg guide is:http://www.catiim.in/pdf/reg_guide.pdf
TIA

if we submit the best of five and best of four for icse n isc now in the cat form due to so much confusion in calculating norms.....does changing the scores later on if called for interviews...adversely affects the later stages of selection?

Depends......Say for example if your best 5 percentage is 81.....but percentage af all subjects is 79......

Now as per IIM A criteria an 81 will put you in a very good chance to get a call whereas a 79 will make it quite difficult......so if you get a call by entering that 81 and later at the interview they find out that the percentage of all subjects is 79 and you wouldn't have got a call had you entered that, then things might get bad......

ok...thanks a lot..will calculate the percentage from aggregate of all subjects only then..to avoid any sort of discrepancy ...if selected

I think that's better lest we have to face the fury of panelist in GDPI...

Even if I go for X XII aggregate it is 80+ but WBUT ..App. Rating go for toss !

same here!...but for wbut..i will put dgpa*10 as percentage only ...in the cat form
