We thought of giving you an update on what was happening in the lives of new faces of LBSIM. And luckily, we bumped into this happy looking guy of PGDM Finance- Ayush Lohia. Let's take a brief look at what Ayush has to say...

What are your take away from the first six months of LBSIM?

As we follow trimester system, I learned soon that you have to be ‘pro-active’ here. There is a lot to gain academically and non-academically like it is said that actual learning takes place outside the classrooms. “Read! Read! Read!” – The more you read the more you move ahead towards your goal. “You will never have more time than right now.” This Saying sums it up.

Tell us about your normal day at LBSIM.

Morning Lectures followed by a discussion session where we can brainstorm and develop an insight on current projects. Then after lunch break and a quick Table tennis game I come back for some more classes. The evening is for our club activities, we meet, we plan, we play, we win, we celebrate!

What do you think is the USP of LBSIM?

I think the USP is that it is a totally student driven institute. Be it management grid, placement cell, alumni cell and the various clubs, all are made up of students. You’ll be part of these bodies and sit in meetings and next thing you know you are standing to be the face of the Institute. You are assured of your future, 100% placement.

And the glory continues for LBSIM, New Delhi with a collaboration with Nanyang Technological University, Singapore for the design and offer of International Immersion Programme. This initiative is taken to foster the growth of cross cultural connections and to provide an international exposure to the students of LBSIM.

“Sarvam Samarpayaami` - means – I completely surrender my self. That is perhaps what Manjunath did on November 19, 2005. He surrendered himself to the pursuit of truth, despite being aware of the consequences. Manjunath Shanmugam – the Indian Institute of Management Lucknow graduate, a 27-year-old marketing manager of Indian Oil was killed in Lakhimpur, U.P. for his stand against corruption & fuel adulteration. His fault was to stand against the evil of corruption, to bring about a change in the system, to stand firm with his value system and never to bow down to the wrong.

Eleven years later, the candles still burn in his memory as we remember him through his actions and bravery. That Integrity and Honesty must reside in value system of each one of us. We can only change the world by changing ourselves. Every year on this day, the student community and faculty members across nation come together to take a pledge of integrity to awaken consciousness about widespread corruption.

We at LBSIM observed the same. Students and Faculty lit the candles for the march in the Memory of Manjunath. Ms. Kriti Mathur (Student LBSIM) narrated Manjunath’s struggle. We marched around the Institute premises with the lit candles and took the pledge on integrity. And this thought reignited within us…The change begins with me… you...us!!

Demonetisation- A future outlook by Avneet Sidana(student LBSIM)

The last week can easily be clubbed into one of the most dramatic weeks in India’s monetary history. On November 8, 2016 ,Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that all notes of ₹500 and ₹1000 denomination would become illegal effective midnight of 9th November. No surprises that the news created a massive flutter among the Indian population. What is definitely surprising and commendable is the fact that how secrecy was maintained in such a connected manner, which was key to create a considerable impact on the 3 concern areas plaguing the nation- parallel economy, counterfeit currency and terror financing. Let us take a look at the impact this bold move might have on the economy as a whole

Currency exchange and circulation– India is a cash based economy with approximately 70% of the transactions taking place in cash, and with 86% of all the currency notes comprising of ₹500 and ₹1000 notes, the daily lives and day to day purchases have been hit the hardest. This has been aggravated by slow passing on of new currency notes into the people’s pockets due to implementation handicaps.

Counterfeit currency- The move would impact counterfeiting the most. The dealers and gangs would now be stuck with counterfeit notes and going to the bank would mean getting the racquet expose. A large amount of fake currency comes from across the border which is used to finance terrorists and the move would put a stop to all such activities.

Black money – While the decision is aimed at flushing out black money and the impact is yet to be seen, it might not add much to the cause since cash forms a very small component of all the black money in India, with the rest of it in the form of gold, real estate or in foreign currency in foreign bank accounts. What it will definitely do is create fear in the minds of black money hoarders, and the effects can be seen already.

Real Estate – Cash component in real estate is high. With this ban, there will be a slow-down in reality deals since cash would be out, and we can see a price reduction of about 25% in the property prices in the short term, with the prices stabilizing later on.

Gold Purchase- Purchase of gold will be hit in the short term as black money is used to buy gold, hence the import of gold would reduce. In the long term, purchase of gold could increase since black money hoarders would be afraid to hold cash.

Consumption – Consumption would be hit hard, as there would be less money in circulation, which will lead to fall in inflation in short term. This would also mean significant decrease in the economic growth for the next quarter.

Banking - The move will bring a lot of money into circulation and it would encourage and push India to move towards a cashless economy through increase of digital transactions, reducing dependency on cash.

Many of us are having entrepreneurial aptitude and dream of successfully running a business, MBA can fine tune our talent by providing training in accordance with the latest global market trends and emerging business models. One such Aspiring Entrepreneur we found amongst us – Anirudh Bharadwaj (PGDM-Finance-1st Year). Let’s see what he has to say about his journey here so far

How has life changed from pre-MBA stage?  MBA is a rigorous journey and MBA with trimester system makes it harder. Our director has been very supportive towards Entrepreneurship, though I get less time to devote to my start-up (INPOWCON SOLUTIONS) but constant advice that I get from our director compensates everything. LBSIM has provided me with intensive Corporate interface that has further helped in upgrading my venture.

What are your take away from the first 6 months of LBSIM?  LBSIM has taught me the importance of teamwork and basics of management that we can apply to succeed in life. Strong Alumni network of LBSIM has connected me to various successful entrepreneurs who have sacrificed their present to live their dreams in future. Corporate interface session has been very enriching. It has helped in understanding various markets and upcoming opportunities in them.

One experience of LBSIM you would like to share with us:  One question that has always clicked my mind is that “Why 94% of the startups close after 2years?” Even though the government is ready to support startups with campaign like START-UP INDIA. I asked this question to our Director on the day of orientation, instead of blaming existing economic conditions and unavailable eco-system for startups to flourish. He explained with concrete examples how we as entrepreneurs make mistakes by being over ambitious and impatient. He explained how same idea got successful when pitched by others. He always motivated to continue with conventional business and explore up-coming sectors and diversify my domain of expertise.
