True about the foreign exchange students. More than a dozen are here and they seem to have taken over the gym. A few have played football with us as well. Wish there were two grounds here One cannot accomodate so many people. Having said that, its good to see so many people wanting to play football. At the same time though, the finals of our football tournament hasn't been held yet. The league games were over more than two weeks back. The final between PGPM06 and PGPM07 is left and since PGPM06 have their exams now, it will not be this week as well :(
For the foreign exchange students, a lot lot more are expected to come in the next few weeks and a good number fron our senior batch will also be off to various places next month. Partying and travelling is all that these guys have on their mind π

yup forex is in the MDI campus... and it's become even more colourful....

Academic rogors at MDI?? I personally dont think there is any over here... First there is football, tennis and cricket followed by the clubs and then the placecom/IRC activities and then Rangmanch...and finally if there is some time then projects, quizzes and tests..

And Anarkali why would we be secretive about the papers? Accounting was screwing all right.. but the marks have been good generally, moi surpassed my wildest expectations in this subject... also the Prof teaching us Accounts post the mid sem is absolutely awesome...even those who have made up a mind for marketing, cant help but love the subject....havent got all the papers though...
On another note, we've got 7 subjects in the first sem:
- accounting
- marketing
- statistics in management (moi favourite)
- law
- OB
- communication
- economics

38 more forex people coming this weeek ....... and 36 seniors goin on exchange ..... so we will see a far higher %ge of forex people from cmng week .... π ....
as 4 the courses ..... the structre is quite good and the faculty is also damn good ....... some of em are just brilliant .
.... as mufasa said ...... Prof for accountng is damn good .... he manages to hold the attentn for the ntre duratn of the class ... which is quite a feat ... considerng the natural urges to doze off that most of us have and succumb to in some other lectres π π :D
besides ... prof for stats is in a league of his own .... a phd from ISI ..... he eats drinks sleeeps breathes ..... statistics n probability ..... n he has high regards for engineers like me in the class ..... and never misses an opprtnty to point out hw brilliant n knowledgeable we engineers are .... π ;)
good amnth of debating happens in the marketing lecture with every1 gettng a free run to air his/her views abt market segmentatn, positioning etc etc ...... :)
OB prof .... too comes with instruments and games ....... which we do in the class to get an idea of the concepts .... the other day the entire class had real fun playng ...... prisoners dilemaa ..... esp Mufasa bhaai and his team ... π π ... plus she shares her vast exprnce of consulting top notch companies .... and her various trips to harvard, stanford etc ..... n various forums and conferences where she is quite a regular attendee .... :)
the microeconomics prof ... is also a god of his field ...... has vast knowledge and is very respected .... theres lot of practical teaching that happens in his class ....... without any particular structure as such ..... he provides insights abt china (he just recently went there for a couple of weeks for some conference etc ) ... japanese economy ... indian public sector ...... and why certain ineffeciences are there in indian system and hw they can be solved ...
the Oral Commnctn n Presntatn Skills prof ....... has excellent commnctn skills ... and lot of experiental learning happens in that class .... with rvideo ecorded public speaking n book reviews ....... with good constructve feedback on hw we can improve ...... formal presentatn skills provides good insight abt preparng effctve power pnt presentatns ...... we will be havng .... gds n interviews too as a part of that course to prepare for our summers .... :)
the Law ... prof too has vast indstry exprnce ...... and is a master of his field ...... teaches law in a very light manner .... keeping people intrsted considerng its a very theoretical kind of subject ... and he has a very peculiar sense of humor too .... :)
... all in all ..... if we dont doze off in the class ..... due to the effrt we put in the "other value add" activities that we indulge in outside the class .... good amnt of learning happens in the class itself .... so no need to really ghissofy outside the class..... ..... and that in turn means we can spend mre time on the "value add" activities .... π π
besides all the profs .... mentioned in my above post ..... today had a chance to interact with a Prof whos really reallly popular on campus here ..... hes Prof. Sanjay Bakshi a visiting faculty and had come to address us on entrepreneurship ........ hes an entrepreneur himself ..... and a damn successful one at that .....
n today some of us came to know ..... why the man is sooo sooo popular .. and his electve such a sought after one ...... I am already lookng forward to the 5th and 6th sem when we will get a chance to interact with him on a regular basis in the class .....
for details about him and his life refer:
Life and Business: A prof called Sanjay Bakshi

his blog:
Fundoo Professor
many seniors say that its THE COURSE which will make you feel that you are fotunate enough that you came to MDI .... π π .... have a look at the above links and find out for yourself as to what this fundoo prof is all about!!! π
besides ... prof for stats is in a league of his own .... a phd from ISI ..... he eats drinks sleeeps breathes ..... statistics n probability ..... n he has high regards for engineers like me in the class ..... and never misses an opprtnty to point out hw brilliant n knowledgeable we engineers are ....
The biggest reason I love statistics is become of this Prof. What he teaches in class is not just statistics , though most of the junta doesnt understand what he means.... today in class we spoke about the relationship between music, philosophy and statistics... and I spent a great half an hour speaking to him later on... it's very easy for us to say that loving your job makes you good at it...but does your interest arise because you're good, or is being good at something makes it of interest? How important it is to be a "team player" and why we as a race lag behind the intellects of the past....? is it really possible to motivate a team which is best described by chaos? What is more important, being nondescript but loving every moment of your life or being financially well off but always in doubt whether you actually deserve it? does a fresh B school grad have enough confidence in himself to open up a dhaba and do that well, if say tomorrow the economy collapses....?
I know I am too small to judge him, but he is one of the few who I want to emulate...
so no need to really ghissofy outside the class..... ..... and that in turn means we can spend mre time on the "value add" activities ....
Now Ram, dont give a one sided view....forgot the "ghissus" who head for the library just after class...and are dreamy eyed due to lack of sleep not from football, volleyball, movies but burning the oil night after night...

Now that most profs have been introduced here...let me introduce other ppl on the campus who contribute to our life in a big way
Sharmaji - The canteen which is open almost 20 hrs a day..Get good chhole-kulchas in morning and afternoon, parathas and sandwiches at night. Though most items are strictly ok..the cheese omlettes are a real treat.
The mess guys - Brilliant ppl..with a few exceptions, on most days they serve us good food. Plus many of them play football with us..and yes the Samaritans club here also takes time out at night and educates them with basic English, Maths...
Fresh & Honest coffee - The guy who has a stall inside our building and beside our classrooms. He is surely the best businessman most will see with a great locational advantage. Every break in lectures or for every mobile ringing π this guy earns his livelihood ;)
Jhaji - The other small eatery stall that opens in evenings and goes on till late nights. Is the destination for the tea and maggi addicts here!
Arcus - The home delivery point which delivers amazing rolls, parathas to our doorstep late nights. Staying up late for whatever reason is made a lot better cos of Arcus!
The capped supervisor - The person who sometimes supervises the quizzes instead of profs for us. A hard man..in fact way too hard to tackle π
And a few days back, we bought MDI mugs..these are cool mugs designed by some students with MDI lingo and graffiti on them. Really a worthwhile souvenir for all Mandevians!
An update on the OPJEMS scholarships...as said previously our dear Mufasa had qualified as one of the 20 who could give the test. Now he is among the 2 selected for the 2nd round
Here's wishing him all the best to make it. Of course the wishes are conditional to a lot of rounds of :drinking::drinking::drinking::drinking::drinking::drinking::drinking: that we expect in return

besides all the profs .... mentioned in my above post ..... today had a chance to interact with a Prof whos really reallly popular on campus here ..... hes Prof. Sanjay Bakshi a visiting faculty and had come to address us on entrepreneurship ........ hes an entrepreneur himself ..... and a damn successful one at that .....
WOW! what an inspiration.....
missed his session though.....:(

Koi nahin mufasa bhaai ............. i think next sem seniors will have his electve so he will be on campus quite often ...... and the entrepreneurial ecosystem guys might get him for anther round of lecture etc ...... in ne case 5th/6th sem we too will have his elective ......
.. as 4 the man ..... he was fascinating to say the least ... his thought process ..... was on a diffrnt plane ....... n his views abt b-schools, placement process, entrepreneurship, life etc wld surely get people thinking ........
newyz ... aaap abhi interview ki tayyaari main lag jaaao ... apko phhod k aaanaa hai ....:) π .... and phir grand partyyy honeee hai !!! π π
mufasa SaysPGPM07 team beat the PGPM06, official MDI team, in the finals of the football tournament... PGPM07 team played with 10 men for almost the entire match and won 4-2(penalty shootouts 3-1)... our own rockball was the goalie and saved 3 of the opponents shots....more on that after the celebrations.... :drinking::drinking:

Was waiting for Ram to upload the pics

football has reached dizzying heights in MDI... the awesome ground just begs you to shed all inhibitions and run as you did when you were in school... the burning passion in both the teams and the electrifying atmosphere made the game truly special...only sad part was that I was warming the bench instead of playing π
The game started on the top most gear.. the seniors dominated us in the beginning few minutes, and soon we were a goal down...but slowly we found our bearings and were making a match of it when suddenly our forward in a gush of inspiration by Zidane lashed at the opponent's right back, and was promptly handed a red card..we were down to 10 men and with a goal deficit.. but the team pulled itself together and the captain scored an equaliser... to cut it short, at the end of full time the scores were tied at 1-1 and the light was fading fast... I told you the match had all the drama

rockball, who is our goalkeeper was confident going to the penalty shootouts... and he performed as well as anyone could have.. he saved 2 kicks and 2 went over the bar.. we converted the ones that mattered....
There was great bonhomie between the 1st and 2nd year students after the match..photos were taken and the captain was made to buy the winning team a round of .....

Today mufasa has his OPJEMS interview...Here's wishing him all the best!
pardon me, but dear coolstar could you introduce yourself?
PS - my first time surfing or puying in a classroom
Today mufasa has his OPJEMS interview...Here's wishing him all the best!
thanks rockball.... just came back from the interview... it was supposed to be a video conf. but since we are close to their main office in Delhi, we were called for a personal interview... All 4 (2 seniors and 2 juniors) had it today... was a good experience, the panel was quite chilled out.... now the wait begins.... π
mufasa Saysfootball has reached dizzying heights in MDI
Really good to see that!!!

In our senior batch (2005) there hardly 5 people who would turn up to play and they used to complete their team with the mess workers while in our batch (2006) we had to beg and cajole to get 11 guys on the ground!!
But 2 football tournaments one in MDI and one in IMT helped a MDI team being formed in our final year (comprising of seniors and juniors) and guess the batch of 2007 has made sure it has passed on to juniors from that time!!
And believe me the mess workers do have a really good team if they can get 11 of them to play!! I don`t know whether you guys had a chance to see those guys in action!!!
