LIFE@ FORE School Of Management

@Sambuca Seriously the last trimester is going to be the best in terms of knowledge. People rarely sleep in class, everyone is attentive and contribute in class discussions!!! And BEST of all, very few people bunk classes! ;)

God..Those good campus moments. *Sigh* Seriously miss them. Getting nostalgic. Keep posting. πŸ˜ƒ :)

Hi
I request you and everyone reading this to post all the queries on this thread - http://www.pagalguy.com/forums/cat-and-related-bschools/2013-2015-fore-school-t-85869/p-3603981/r-4222152?page=37
ALL queries will be answered on the above mentioned thread ASAP. For now, I am answering your query but any queries on this thread in future won't be addressed.

In my opinion placements are pretty good, especially for freshers (like me). While the difference in the package for freshers and those with work-ex is not too much, freshers are getting a kick start to their career. By the time you turn 27-28, you may be much better off that your counterparts, at least financially. Though there are many benefits of MBA after some work-ex.

Also, the work-ex component means different things to different companies. Some cos. believe that people with work-ex don't need basic training and will easily get absorbed in the organisation. Some look at 'relevant' experience i.e. say if an engineer with 3 years of IT work-ex gets a Risk Consultant profile then his experience may be counted as basic (1 year) or maybe not counted at all. So it depends.

Point is, as a fresher, you will find a lot of opportunities but you may find it difficult to understand the career prospects (based on your profile)/ expected demands from a job. So as long as one is willing to get into the industry, slog it out in any role, do the hard work in these early years of your working life even to support his/her family, I would strongly recommend FORE.

@Bibhu2109

Hi, Welcome to the thread NOT meant for queries (reads Life@FORE). Please see the dates of the posts as well. The average CTC mentioned as 8lacs is for the batch that passed out last year (2010-2012) and not of the batch that passed out 7 years ago!

So all the new year parties in the hostel are over by now and we're back to regular classes (though there was never a single official new year holiday for us ). Amidst the agony of mustering willpower for attending the 9am lectures, we got a great news today that now our MBA will end on 7th March instead of 15th Feb. So 2 more months to enjoy.

Many activities are coming up shortly starting with the Table-Tennis Tournament - SMASH!

I remember the day,When I just entered FORE.
At the time of my GD PI,All set to go.
I met you, had a talk, you were new to me,
But the dilemma in my eyes, my voice, you could clearly see.
I was in a fix, that was a crucial time,
But to wider horizons, u opened my mind.
You were never manipulative to sell me FORE
You were honest to me, I thank you to the core.
I was new to the college, to procedures and rules,
with a wide domain of activities to choose.
You helped me extract the best out of me,
Your undue support and care, set my thoughts free.
Marketing,, finance, HR, operations, was all fun to learn,
But to know you and have you was the most precious thing I could earn.
A Hi! in the morning and a goodbye late in the eve.
A special bond is what I had learnt to weave.
And now when I am so used to of you being there for me,
Its time for you to leave me and go.
Your absence will create an abominable lull,
The very thought to not see you around is dismal.
But the time spent in FORE with you ,
Will be cherished throughout my life, for miles and miles
We will meet over a cup of coffee someday,
And remember the time spent together with neverending smiles. :)

Soon all our seniors will start a new corporate life after a couple of weeks. Maximum time is spent with them now-a-days, learning from them, sharing their experiences. We cannot and will not ever be able to thank enough our seniors for their support care and guidance.Feels lucky to have joined FORE. πŸ˜ƒ πŸ˜ƒ πŸ˜ƒ

Had a "Town Hall Meeting" today as we call it in FORE, where all the first year students had a kind of informal discussion with the Student Council and other seniors to voice their concerns over any matter that they felt important to be discussed or taken care of. It was a great platform for the juniors where their problems, if any, could be heard. We felt important because our suggestions,no matter however small, were making difference and seemed to add value to the college. Its a great way to acknowledge different perspectives that everyone of us has and a commendable effort on the part of the student Council for having thought something like this. πŸ˜ƒ

Centre for Entrepreneural Development (CED, as it is fondly called at FORE), has organised a three-day workshop on €œOpportunity Evaluation and How to write a successful B-Plan". Today being the first session, was an eye opener to all the micro, macro and other external factors that we need to take into consideration and ponder upon after choosing the right market and industry for our ventures.Fully packed auditorium with the first year students was itself an indication of how much the students were enthusiastic and excited about this workshop. The key highlights for today were the steps of analysing the externalities and some rough estimations of cost benefit analysis for any business.A totally worth it session which added alot of value. Eager for the upcoming two day sessions.

Life is tough, not so easy,

You have to slog hard, its going to be busy.

You will be hit, crushed and challenged throughout,

You will not be heard, even if you are loud.

But you have to learn to fight and not to quit,

You need to pace up with time and not just sit.

Your smile should be the one that never fades,

And should be bright enough to light up your dark days.

Be happy and thankful for whatever you get,

Enjoy your life, like everyday is a fest,

The line for sorrow is long, you need to cut it.

Live your life to the best, before you finally kick the bucket!!! :)

ABHIWADAN'13 , an initiative of ANTAR (the csr committe of FORE), where we warmly welcomed the elderly of an Old Age Home to FORE to share with us their experiences and learnings from life.Meeting them, talking to them, relating to what they say, playing musical chairs, antakshri, singing old songs, cutting cake and what not made our day. To serve them was a priveledge and being blessed in return was divine. A four hour interaction with them was a wonderful experience and we wished it could go for long. Such events give you a break from busy study life and give you some time to realise where and how is life heading and what can be done to make it go smooth happy and easy.Learning the right way to live life from the elderly was an amazing opportunity. ! πŸ˜ƒ :)

Last month of my MBA left. The sadness of leaving FORE is much more than the happiness of joining the corporate world. It was the last time I & may be 99% of us were in a classroom environment. The last minute preparations, the running for assignment submissions, the constant pleading to the professors for attendance, the fight with friends for that lunch box, the surprising CGPAs, the surprising placements and the more so entertaining padhaku bache of the class. This is never going to come back. And one more thing which will never come back is the child-like fun - the bindaas befikri zindagi aur bina tension ki life.

I would keep coming back to FORE as an alumni, as a mentor, as a speaker and much more. My memories of FORE are one of the finest and will ensure that I keep them alive!

Last lecture of my study life coming up tomorrow and Nostalgia is the word on everybody's mind and facebook walls. It has been such an awesome journey. I seems amazing to relate how novice we were when we entered while thinking that we know quite a lot and what we have become now after going through about 40 odd subjects in these 2 years. After meeting so many awesome people, with innumerable memories to cherish for a lifetime, it feels surreal and worth every penny to have had an opportunity to be a part of the FORE family. Every memory is etched into our heads so strongly that we don't need any pictures to remind us of our time.

While there is excitement about joining the corporate world, as for now, we are looking to make the most of the free time available for we are sure that this journey called FORE will be badly missed.

An awesome Farewell brings an end to our journey. We'll surely miss all the classroom masti, last minute preparations, working all night for presentations, assignments, making fun of classmates, running for attendance, cribbing about things we don't like, and the list doesn't seem to end.

When I see & interact with GDPI candidates now, it makes me feel really happy and proud to see what I was when I was running to make it to a good B-School and what I have now become post 2 years of grooming. 2 Years ago I really doubted my decision to join FORE at first after getting 6 converts but now I can happily say it was a great decision. After joining, there were times when I felt I cannot take the stress but looking back now I realise that is what MBA is all about - Developing your personality & attitude to handle ANY situation with any amount of stress to come out on top without fail.

So after 2 awesome years, we have parted ways to join the corporate jungle. While there is plenty of excitement for joining what would be my 1st job, I am sure that all the good and bad memories of FORE School of Management will remain etched in my mind forever.

first week at FORE school of management. Feeling really great being at FORE. Got our schedule till next Wednesday. Feeling really packed when the classes extend till 6:30 as i am not used to sit for too long in the classes. Nostalgia of my siblings, parents and others in my house. Hope everything gets normal as days pass by.

Its already been a little more than a month of Life @ FORE and it only seems like yesterday when i was getting ready to be a student again for 2 years. (2 years....it's going to be a long time)

On the 17th of June, taking the blessings of the family and the rain gods i headed towards the college. On reaching close to the college premises i could see a lot of other boys and girls walking towards the college in the same white and grey clothes as mine. The sight of so many others with aspirations in their eyes and determination in their walk made me realize that am not the only genius to have made it to this institute and it immediately brought me back down to earth.

And am glad i realized it the same day as the intellect level of these students is actually pretty high. The diversity of the batch, profiles of the peers, their backgrounds, the kind of work-ex the group has, cleared all my apprehensions about the college that I still had.

The first week started with orientation classes which acted like the appetizers and soon the main course classes started. Luckily made some great friends in the initial days who are helping me to hold on to this fast paced life at FORE.

Talking of the pace, the batch of first year got a glimpse of how the next two years are going to be during the three most amazing days which were of the selection process of various college committees. Running from one selection process to the other, making ppts and business plans as part of the various stages, all the time thinking on your feet, the results of various rounds pouring in every now and then and still not getting a sigh of relief as along with the happiness of clearing one round came the instructions for the next rounds.

Those days ended late at night relishing wonderful famous laxman ka parathas(just outside FORE) and gossiping about the day.

Since the first day, everyday has been a new learning experience thanks to the amazing faculty, corporates from big brands like Asian Development Bank and entrepreneurs of various start ups, who have already started coming in to teach us about the management mantras beyond books. The various events taking place at FORE gives us ample of opportunity to practice the theories taught and to learn new fundas.

Thinking about how the time flies, even the much awaited Freshers Night & After Party has also gone by and we are already near to our first set of examinations and i better get back to my case analysis.

with so much to learn and look forward to, it seems 2 years is going to be such a short time.

The one thing that can be said of college life is that it prepares you for the outside world. But at every step of the way, be it passing out of school, or graduating from Engineering colleges, the big gap between when we know and what lies out there can be seen as gigantic. So it was with a pinch of salt that we all entered yet another institute of education at FORE. We looked not at college experience, but at placement statistics, and fee structures.

Within one month of joining, I stand here corrected. Because in one month, thirty odd days, life at FORE has taught me more about what I can expect out there, than ever before. While the corporate interactive and case study based curriculum deserves much of the credit, it was the other little things that made me notice how lucky I was to have chosen this college.

The uniform

I am sure most of us have grown up loathing the uniforms we were forced to wear in schools, and then later, in our offices as well. We had come to associate uniforms with restrictions, rules, and in general the image of a jail cell. However, the formal dress code for freshers during the induction period served a great deal in my networking. Finding out who you'll be spending the next two years with, and who are your seniors was made much easier. The uniformity of the dress code helped level great differences, such as age, background etc. Someone who elsewhere in the world would have been a Sir or a Ma'am, became a Yaar.

The Student's council

As managers we are expected to run the show, quite literally, wherever we go. Business life never sleeps, and is rigorous to the core. The student council selection processes proved an ample proof of the same. Trying to juggle the tasks and deadlines of multiple assignments, projects and interviews round the clock did give me a very keen outlook of what was expected of me. There went the lethargy, there went the procrastination. At the end of the stretch of the entire process, when I hit the bed, I assure you I was tired, apprehensive, maybe even terrified of what was expected of me. But I was also quite proud of what I had achieved, and filled with confidence that you get only when you surmount a challenge. Life, I'm ready for the next one.

Studies

Ah yes, the studies. Being in an engineering college, this concept of a flexible timetable was not something I was used to. It took quite a lot of adjusting to, but then I am not sure I have succeeded just quite yet. However, it soon became clear that these breaks, little and far between are also to be utilised to complete deadlines on all the coursework that we need to finish. Time management is not only to be learnt, but to be imbibed - absorbed. At FORE, you don't just learn. You live it all. You're expected to prepare for a class before it, thereby making the entire process of learning continuous.

The juggling act

So one has the curriculum to cover, committee work to do, competitions to take part in, and corporate interactions to attend. Exams come in a bunch, you can never lose your alertness with quizzes whizzing past you, trying to extract some crack in your armour. Juggling so many acts together at FORE for just over a month, and it is crystal clear hard work is not enough. FORE advocates smart work, and then makes you imbibe it too. The hard way. Experience.

All said, words fail to capture the beauty of the system that is FORE school of management. It cannot encompass the laughter you hear from the canteen, or the silence emanating from the library. The efficiency of this machinery is seen on the faces of all those people you cross by during the day in the corridors. The smiles, stretched by the challenge, unyielding, and yet, the twinkle in their eyes, goals in view, and you know, 'this time I'll be ready for the world'.

The cultural shift

I graduated from a Delhi University college last year and like most of us, those were the most precious and fun filled years of my life. From being associated to the Delhi theater group for 3 years, to being a geeky accounts student during exam , everything about those 3 years are cherished.
My 2nd lecture of the 2nd day made me realize that I was now in a different world all together. The professor announced ' If you come late, you don't get attendance' , and I shook my head in denial. I was among those children who would always enter my 8 30 class in college at 8 50, and smile at the teacher who would innocently allow me in. Coming in time was a habit for those 3 years, and now, within 1 month Of MBA , that habit seems gone. FORE teaches you to be on time and prepares you for the corporate world
The other time I felt something like this was during our event ADDICT. To me, it was like an AD- MAD where people had to show innovation, act like the earlier ads starting with " Main baut pareshan thaa..", act overexcited and endorse a product which would never exist in the real world. Keeping the same in mind, I stepped onto the stage , mimicking a Sardar Santa. Prior to my performance, I realized that this event was more to do with marketing than acting. It aimed at teaching us the 5 Ps of marketing and how one should present a product.
MBA is a lot to do with learning and with each passing day, I realize how much one can learn. A simple event like ADDICT, teaches you basic marketing skills of presenting a product as if you were selling it to some company.
FORE makes me learn things the corporate way.
😁

'Life doesn't get better by chance. It gets better by choice'. I read this quote somewhere and I feel it is apt to start with. Life is a gimmick, play with it or it will play with you. Fight with it or it will fight with you. Wondering what I am speaking of?

Well, let's understand it with an example. Remember the time when you started your preparation aiming top B-Schools in India and cracked the toughest exam (At least for us) with a good percentile. You were happy with multiple calls and hoped to convert all of them! Here starts the game; by good fortune let us consider you have converted all the calls. It is the time you decide a college that fits you the best. The college that recognizes your talent, shapes your personality and the one that showcases you to the external world. I must say, FORE is a kind of college that inspires encourages and gets the best out of you.

Well the first month at FORE was enthralling. A month of formals seemed hectic, but it helped us to interact with seniors (hey you've got a wrong shade!). The whole month was busy with student council selections, knowing people, getting acquainted to the environment. Getting into a committee was a real challenge; a mere quarter of the whole bunch gets into committees. The whole Gdpi process again in the campus was exciting, and now with 6 rounds was really an awesome experience.

Late night studies, assignments, birthdays, quizzes keep us busy all the time. Oops and yea big parties certainly with bottle openers: D

Today fist year students of FORE School of Management had a guest lecture from Mr. Soumik Ganguly, Vice President, Global Sales & Marketing- Pagalguy.com.

One of the key persons behind the site that we all visit during our times of CAT preparation and making one of the most important decisions of our life of selecting a B-School, Mr. Ganguly with his lecture today definitely gave an idea of how to proceed with this chosen life.

What a lecture it was. Amazing insights into the field of marketing and how it is evolving. He discussed on the kind of research that is being done on new age marketing, beyond the current literature available.
Definitely inspired many of us to not just study what is being taught but to actually research and find out new methods of marketing.

Looking forward to many such sessions.

LIFE @ FORE

Well.. To sum it up in a couple of words, I'd say "IT'S AWESOME"..

But, I blv that FORE deserves much more than this 'couple'..

FORE, is one of the best colleges for management education in the country, and I am not saying it because I am a student of FORE and I am 'bound' to say all these things, but I do realise n feel the same about it. The feeling is awesome when u are in the college which u always dreamt of. It's been just a couple of months into the college, and I've experienced & learnt a lot in these couple of months.

The learning over here is different from what used to be in engineering days. From the rote-learning thing to the practical approach & rational way of learning, things have actually taken a u-turn. And learning is not only limited to the classrooms, but right from time management to out-of-the-classroom-academics to co-curricular activities to early morning-to-late night schedule (Yes, a full week spent, with average 10-12 hrs/day), and believe me, it's an incredible feeling when u spend so much time at a stretch but still u r not 'tired' at the end of the day, and u still say "Yeh Dil Maange More", as it actually depends upon you that what all things you extract from the institute. A perfect balance of studies and extra-curricular activities is what leads to the best thing, for extremities are never appreciated and balanced things/lives are. FORE is not just about studies, or for that matter, not just 'fun', but an amalgamation of both. It certainly depends upon us that how much and what all things can v imbibe from this premiere education institute.

I dont know what more to write for FORE, as it's a brand which speaks for itself, but yes, would conclude by saying that "Experience & Live Your 'LIFE @ FORE School of Management' "

Good Luck
God Bless..!!

Life @FORE.Delhi has been a pleasent experience till now, hope it will remain same for some time before I start feeling the heat of MBA :D mg
