Hi ,
Its been a long time since I posted on this thread ... guys have gone for their summers .. I am here in bangalore ... doing a project on CRM for CCD ... Got a chance to be at a pg meet today .....
Gimli in the Lord of the rings
Its a time of parting, a time to somehow bid a painful goodbye to the place they so lovingly called home, GIM to the outsiders, but the world to the inmates. Two years in the quest of an MBA, brought together people from varied backgrounds, education and ages, and made friends for life. As all good things come to an end, so had the stay at GIM. We were witness to the good byes, the futile struggle to hold back the tears, the exchange of phone numbers and email addresses with the promise of keeping in touch.
This was the mood at GIM , happy yet sad , hopeful yet apprehensive ... It made me think ... the days isnt far when I would be in the same place that they are now .... Then I conciously decided , I am going to make the last year of my stay at GIM , one of the most memorable ever ...
GIM is so beautiful , there just can never be any other bschool like GIM ... When I first came to GIM , I was so dejected on seeing it ... actually compared it to a jail ... but now , its a part of me ... I live an breath GIM ....
The seniors they all have left .. now we suddenly find that we are the seniors , with no one to go to , to ask advise , its us now , whom people would be turning to take advise

A new batch has come in , they will be reaching GIM around the 15th ... some would be dissapointed , some will be happy ,. some will love teh freedom , some would be apprehensive of it corrupting people ..
The same old stuff about mess food being not good , to what should be done to better the infrastructure will be heard . We second year guys will arrive late to find that our college has been taken over

I am so very missing GIM , somehow hate the guys who are doing their summers there in Goa , But yes have to carry the GIM legacy high .. though the first phase of my project seems nearly impossible , but will do my best and go all out to do it ...
will write later

Capstone was incorporated in the 6th trimester of our seniors .. read on for more about capstone
Capstone
Capstone is a Business Simulation game developed by Management Simulations Inc. It is a means to apply skills learnt in different fields like marketing, finance, HR, and operations throughout MBA. The game tests the analytical abilities of participants by requiring them to base their decisions on a large volume of data generated all through the game about the industry and competitors. The game also encourages teamwork; as all members of a team have to work together in order to succeed against teams in a competitive environment.
The game has marketing, finance, production, HR, TQM and R&D; modules where in teams can set values that affect several parameters leading to points on a Balanced Scorecard. Teams are measured on Profit, ROE, ROS, Asset Turnover and other parameters. The game also allows for peer evaluation and comprehensive debriefing sessions.
This gives the PGP-2 students a chance to try out the skill they have picked up through the two years of academic rigour, in real time, and against one another. And ideally positioned in the 6th term, post placement, it gives the students enough time to do justice to the demanding schedule required for Capstone.
Goa Institute of Management is one of the very few elite business schools in the country who have taken this initiative.

Welcome to GIM dude .... and the question that was asked to you would have been apt if it was asked to me as I am 28 and my batchmates are really very young .. barring the few married ones ...
Regarding your batch .. Its full of people with work ex ... and there are loads of them ..
we have 3- 4 people in their thirties in our college, and beleive me adjusting is not an issue if you try :)
All the very best
Not that there is something great to walk about .. a simple guy doing his summers in a simple company
I had mixed feelings about my summers after having worked in the industry for nearly 5 years to start work again I used to go to work at 9 and come as late as 11 ..so 9 to 5 30 wasnt a problem for me .. At least staying In the office for that whole long wasnt a worry for me .
I was much more worried about what will they make me do ..ok I had a title of my project .. which was studying of the gifting market and came under the heading CRM
Now CRM is the in thing , companies are installing CRM softwares by the dozen .. so though why not gain some insight into CRM hence took the offer
There are around 23 people who are doing their summers here at Bangalore , out of which 5 of us work for the same company ..Till the time we reached Bangalore we had no place to stay .. the person who was to give us accommodation .. ditched us at the very last moment .. and we didnt want to take up accommodation at IIM B reason being It as was way too far .. plus it seemed to me to be more of a backdoor entry to stay at IIM B during summers ;)
We went to an acquaintance .. and then started the search .. with a copy of free ads and other classifieds we started hunting for a place to stay in Indiranagar.. now Bangalore is a cosmopolitan city , with people from all over the world..now we guys being smart .. started approaching people who looked like they are from outside .. and asked them to guide us to a pg .. this way we nearly talked to 20 30 different people .. and went over to many pgs but none looked decent enough
Finally we met another acquaintance , who took us in his car , and we searched a few more places before finalizing on a place in Indirangar.
But the sad part was that we were in a hall which was partitioned into a small room .. with 3 beds .. we were told that we will get another room with an attached bath in a few days there was hardly any place to stand .. all we could do on getting into our room was to just lie down ..there was a tv room next to our room .. and damn I hated it so much .. so much noise .. somehow beared .. plus so many freaking mosquitoes .. .
Ahh about the first daya at work .. It was my first time at Bangalore .. so had no clue at all where the office was .. ashwin had been here before he got us to MG road and from there we trekked .. and that was the start of trekking J finally reached the office .. at exact 930 .. went into orientation and all that .. was treated to real boring stuff somehow kept awake through it all then the worst thing happened .. we were told to wear the company uniforms and go to the outlets and get some training done on how the stuff is made and how business actually runs needless to say it wasnt what he expected and didnt help us in any way at all .. we spent two such days even got ourselves photographed by the yahooligans ..if there was anything worse than that .
Will write later .. Didnt proof read . so in case the sentences seem incoherent and unconnected and useless kindly blame it on a long working day :)
Finally our project guide met us , and I was given some competitor mapping project .. searched on the net for How it is done and came across a report of I I P M where the students had done the same project .. got the report studied it .. realized how it was made .. and then started work on making a report atleast 1000 times better
We were also told to give suggestions and recommendations about the outlets that we went to .. and we compiled a report and submitted .. all kinds of suggestions and ideas , some which we thought were really brilliant..
Then one day we came to know that I have been assigned a new project .. so came and met my new guide .. who is a genuinely nice guy , clearly told me whether you want to do a run of the mill survey thing which every tom **** or harry does .. or do u want to do something which is worthwhile .. I chose the latter
He wanted me to work on something , which was facing some problems of malpractice at the outlets .. but he wasnt giving me much info .. so really didnt know what was expected of me
Slowly I lost interest .. then all of a sudden I was told to gather some information which was not at all available in the public domain and this is when things started looking interesting I did a good job here .. finding information through networking which I challenge anyone to find out they way I found out..
Then my guide began talking about the problem he was facing .. then he asked me to study the problem and suggest ways to curb the problem he told me that he has thought of his own solution .. but still asked me to work on it
I came up with a simple thing which seemed brilliant to my guide .. the next step was finding out whether it is possible to implement it without any extra cost so went to the printers .. learnt a lot about offset printing ,security priniting , microprinting and all that .. then met a guy who modifies 😉 existing software ..had a chat with him .. made him understand what I wanted to do .. sat with him for two days and then it was done .. Now all we need to do is .. some change in the MIS .. then we will be just fine ..
So nearly the first phase of my project is done .. and I am waiting for the second part
which will be the implementation of a loyalty program .. would have involved me going to corporate , meeting the guys from administration and convincing them about our product
Before my second phase started , my guide told me that they are going to do some modifications on the product that I had worked on ..regarding the size .. and then with the new product implement my ideas Though I had a feeling that the changes wouldnt be good .. still went for an online survey where I surveyed people from my engineering college to students at wharton .. from passouts of GIM to fresh batch .. And surprisingly they all felt that the changes will work .. I mean mostly .. they thought ..
Today the marketing manager decided to go for the change in size .. though me and my guide still felt that it wasnt that great an idea.. still funny things are known to happen ..
Regarding my daily routine .. I reach office late , and leave early reason being there are loads of site that I need to visit which are blocked .. and there are other reasons too .. I need to work .. and report to my guide daily .. being at office isnt expected of me daily thats the good part .. Sad part of working from home is that .. all the time you are doing work .. u dont realize when you have worked more than the office time ?
Jokes apart , lets talk about the food well we live in a place which is one of the good localities to stay at In Bangalore , with lots of eateries nearby we get loads of options .. now thats not good news .. for my tummy ;)
There is so much disposable income here in Bangalore .. people spend like anything .. thats why there is such a huge divide .. we can have good food at 20 rs next to our place .. or have good food at 100 rs further down the lane ..
There is a place where they serve Caribbean food for 200 rs a plate .. wow ..still Bangalore is good regarding food ..the only thing is if you go for 20 rs roti curry , u will have to eat it standing There is one more thing that I noticed about Bangalore eateries is the extensive use of aluminium and they keep their places so clean .. just spick and span This is what I really liked about these eateries plus they keep the spoons in a container which is heated by steam .. so we get hot spoons . so as to kill the germs .. I have never seen this in any eatery anywhere Plus all the idli making machines are so well made for maximum productivity to say .
I am getting tired now .. there is pne more thing about bangalore .. the bus service it is good .. I sat for the first time in a bus in India where the driver has controls over the doors .. I liked the mechanism.. plus they have an electronic meter installed in every bus .. sigh I could nt get a proper response as to what it was .. it definitely wasnt a speed governor .. the drivers they used to switch of the bus at every redlight which I never found in delhi or for that matter any bus anywhere ..
People here are always on the phone .. and nearly everyone wears headphones and Bangalore women rock
will write more later 😉
