Snape .. Maverick is back in GIM.. Give me a call incase u dont find any transport, will try to arrange something from college..
Now news from college:
Basanti season seems to have already started.. Cricket fever is high among janta staying here.. Matches are played regularly from 4:00pm onwards.. Since the junta in LH is very less we have to be very SELECTIVE with our shots coz ball going in LH would mean extra fixed costs of playing ...
Rest all great...
This is to all GIM aspirants referring to this thread...
Did you see this...
Thats the kind of support system do we have here in GIM. As we do not have any relative grading, even though there is competition, there is no "cutthroat"...which means we all live like family....and look out for each other.
Once we were faced with a huge list of questions and one of our very own puy cracked the whole set and multicasted it...saving tens of asses in one go.
I remember cracking and Multicasting solutions to a case whose solutions are nowhere to be found on google....
So even though I am least likely to get stuck...but I will be least bothered if I did, cos as Rahul has said, someone will definitely come and help me out...(aa jaana bhai)
Apart from the ususal themes of HEAVY WORKLOAD and ROCKING PARTIES at GIM....This is a hitherto unexplored facet of life at GIM....
Everyone looks out for everyone else. I have left stuff right from my books to my lappie around the college and the only thing I have ever lost is a soap!!!!
Here I am..at Chennai.....after 3 months at GIM...
GIm is the place to be....the environment just charges u up....nd the people form the most important component of GIM..as snape said..GIM has the best support system amongst B-Schools....Being here..i miss the 1 am conversations at jaggu's..3 am naps in classes..(yeah 3 am!!!)...under the pretext of studyin...2 am walks.....1 am disco sessions....u may notice evrything is in a.m not p.m....:) all fun happens then :)
like everyone m also missing GIM a lot... looking fwd to come back soon . one thing is for sure tht GIM has chged our time table a bit... i cant sleep before 3-4am n as there is no pressure at home so cant get up before 1-2pm...... had full rest :clap: n missed all my frnds ....
one thing i like to mention abt GIM craze in MBA aspirants is very gud. yesterday i went to bhavanipur college(one of d most famous coll of kolkata) for session on XAT/CAT n GIM... i was trying for d appointment for this session from last 8-9 days n finally got call from coll vice-principal n he alloted me 20-30 mins for d session .
Session was attended by approx 50-60 students n seriously i was shocked as i heard tht not many students attend classes in this coll :1eye: ...
anyways , i went ahead with my presentation n had healthy discussion on cat/xat n GIM . i found most of them do know abt gim n its history quite well .... overall it was gr8 experience for me infact first of this type
as tapan sir has said few post back tht it feel gr8 n proud to wear GIM t shirts n represent gim somewhere....
now only 34 hrs left at home n i hv lot of work/shopping to do .... in last 10 days i did 2 things --> sleep n food .... ab kal ka din need to run around ....
It is always a spl feeling to be back "Home".....u experience this awesome emotional outburst wherein friends (fellow batchmates) meet each other after a long break...and this meeting is a spl one....why?? bcoz all of u would have missed each other and GIM and Goa....all at the same time...u would have talked abt it on Gtalk or on phone...but then when u finally meet....it is a big moment!!
I am sure this coming back would actually bond u all a little more closer!!
Now, i would like to share one my batchmate's experience in the BIG corporate world which was based on whatever he did back "home"....
Anurag Bhargav, Tata Capital, was one of the co-organizer of Samriddhi '07. He had this amazing opportunity to interact with one of the biggest names in the Fin world during the conference. This was a very good experience for him as he realized that he didn't have to be a ranker (read nerd) or a bond in Fin to interact with these ppl...
So, he had this big customer meet here in Bombay...and guess what....he was absolutely fluent in taking care of his customers....who were none other than either CEOs or MDs or CFOs or some big shots from either banks or Fund houses or PE firms, etc
Well, other B-school guys just couldn't find any topic to discuss....customers felt bored and had to engage themselves somewhere else.....
The point i m trying to make here is whatever small or big opportunity that comes your way like this, don't say no...just go ahead and do it...u won't realize it in college....u wud realize it when u wud do the same within ur own org....
The second term has started in full swing..the juniors appear to be having a hectic time balancing their schedules, projects , assignments, social lives and of course studying for their summer placements... Amongst the seniors, The marketing guys are enjoying a much deserved siesta after the the hectic term last time around. Due to a lot of the courses this term being offered by specialist visiting faculty and subsequently resulting schedule, we are enjoying a much lighter schedule. The Finance bonds on the other hand are having a much tougher time balancing their schedules.. Guess God, and Shambavi decided to readdress the balance of last time round.. 😃
(for the benefit of those not from GIM, GIM runs due to the presence of Shambavi..She's the PGP office head and schedules all the lectures for all faculty and students)
Besides the academic point of view , the normal extra curriculars go on.. The most eagerly awaited and prestigious of all cricket Tourneys, for the trophy considered to be the Holy Grail at GIM namely the BASANTI cup ha started in full swing on the hunting grounds of the quad.. And already we have witnessed bloodshed.. Ruchir Dani a.k.a. Baba a.k.a. RDX of the PGP2A team Diehards demolished the PGP1 Sec A team Avalanches single handedly by smashing an unbeaten 108 in a team score of 193/3 in 15 overs...Diehards have also proved their mettle in beating the champion team of last time in the league...With the tourney still in the league stages, lots of other exciting matches are yet to be played..
A lot of the clubs at GIM are going to be in action soon in order to provide stress busters as well as knowledge for all GIMiites.. IT@GIM already had an event last night which was a stupendous success...A Dandiya nite has been planned for friday night and lotsa students are eagerly looking forward to it...
As for my Club Razzmatazz, we working on arranging a club for the next party that will be organized soon so that we can party in the way that Goa is famous for :)

Hi Sachit, good to see ur post after long time. I still remember u from the posts on the GIM admissions thread for last year. It would be a pleasure to have u in the 2009-11 batch. All the best to u for the preparations this year.
Glad to see that you are making a second attempt at GIM...Second attempts are lucky for some;-)
If you are making this attempt, you will not regret it, take it from me....
So life continues is GIM....
Second term has begun with a bang. I new subjects...new teachers...but the enthu is the same.
Few days ago we had the dussehra celebrations. On the initiative of a few of our friends, a pretty evil looking Ravan was conjured up within hours and the colourfully attired effigy was rigged with firecrackers.
Then one of ourbatchmates came forward, doused it with gasoline and set the thing ablze amid loud cheers.....and then the crackers went off and the atmostphere was simply electric....and in typical B School style...when the firecrackers ended, someone said...."CHALO YAAR ...PROCTER AND GAMBLE KA CASE SOLVE KARNA HAI...."
Moral of the story - No matter how much fun you have in GIM....it all boils down to the latest unfinished case...
But next day we again shgowed a specific finger to unfinished cases and went ahead with the Dandiya Night put together by the Gujju Gang....and we all had a rocking time pulling the legs of alleged "Couples"...
The revelry extended deep into the night...and after that I was up till 5 am to solve the procter and gamble case....
yesterday I visited south goa with a biker gang of 12 ppl....we rode 120 kms and had a blast...loong story will post sm other time...
and as I write this I have got a 75 page write waiting to be read and a huge pile of laundry to negotiate with....
Not to mention that I have my marketing club event coming up and I have been working since 11 am....
and we have got the first razzamtazz party at Tito's one of Goa's finest hangout places.......Razzmatazz is the dedicated student body which has the all important responsibility of organising party which they do in painstakingly meticulous detail....
The second term at GIM has been much more rocking than the first term. The transformation in goa in the 2 weeks that we were away home is something u need to see to believe.
The first week was pretty hectic with companies coming to campus for presentations and interviews for the summers. And then there were new subjects and faculties to deal with, best amongst them being Professor Sarvanan who takes Financial Management I for this term. And, not to forget the flurry of assignments that in Marketing. With Snapple case and the Proctor and Gamble cases vying for our time against time alloted for preparations for the interviews for summers.
Again we had visiting faculty for Operations Strategy, Mr. Samir Datta who had to finish the course in a weeks time. So again we had daily 4 hrs of lectures apart from that for the other subjects. Multitasking, as they say is the synonym of Management, one week and we were already grappling with too many things to handle.
Then last sunday we decided to go to Chapora since that was the first short break of a half day that we had after long. Oh!!! What an awesome view.....u need to experience it.....the cool breeze from the sea below and the confluence of the river and sea is just too beautiful to describe in words. We sat there in nature's lap for hours talking about everything under the sun, even nonsensical stuff. Then we clicked loads of picx in "Dil Chahta hai" style (yes it was shot here at Chapora fort). We had started from GIM at around 5 in the morning to be able to see the sunrise though we were not able to see the sunrise due to the clouds, the view from there was worth it. By the time we reached panjim it was already 9. We had a typical goan breakfast with puri and patal bhaji and good tea.
Now the next thing we knew was we were sitting for OS lectures, back to back!!! But yes the best part about GIM is that howmuchever u are stressed u got loads of ways to destress it. With so many students there are birthday celebrations in the quad and there are parties. Most oft visited places : Delhi Darbar and Moti Mahal.
Also, this term we had decided to visit Divar Island on our bikes. So on the last day of our OS lectures all decided to take our bikes on the ferry across the Mandovi to Divar Island. The ride was awesome!! Divar is an awesome place with lots of portugese houses and places that are just beautiful. We went all the way to the church(It looked haunted!!) and then to the market and came back. The experience was awesome and all the 7 bikes looked as if some kind of biker gang.
Then came Friday!! Oh what a nite.....Me as part of the Gujrati community representative at GIM had organized Dandia nite at GIM. The best part about GIM is that people from diverse backgrounds and communities unite to celebrate festivals as their own. Everyone danced a lot, had good gujrati food and won loads of prizes and coupons.
In the second week here, the junior Raazzies were selected. Razzmatazz is the official culture club of GIM. All events like diwali, dussera, parties and treks are organised by this committe. Our very own OTFF Razzie Ivan decided this sunday to organise a trip to South Goa. We visited places like Udaiyar springs, Martin's Corner, Sunset Beach and Go-karting at Goa Country Club. It was a weekend to remember!! First time in 4 months did we realise that we were in Goa, and believe me the tourist season changes the entire look of Goa.
Will write more about other things like dussera celebrations and monday nite party at Tito's later.......
Good to see the batches sinking in the 2nd term quite nicely!
2nd term has this typicality in itself. It is very spl for both the batches in the following specific ways: 1) The dandiya...which from what i see and hear about has been quite rocking
2) All sorts of festive occasions which bring both the batches together. Well, the baap of all these festive occasions is DIWALI. The best day for guys in GIM when they officially enter the LH which now comprehensively belongs to the L of LH. So, it's a different feeling altogether.
3) Then there is Eid when GIM Musica happens. Best way to celebrate Eid.
4) 2nd term is the shortest. So, automatically life becomes very hectic, both academically and well, in many ways, non-academically. Placements is what comes next after all festive occasions have brought all sorts of entertainment in ur lives.
2nd term of first year and that of the 2nd year is the best in the entire GIM tenure. So make the most of the 2nd term.
Tapan, since u mentioned Eid and GIM Musica though I'll give some more info to u about the same. This was the mail dat came on the internal GIM mail server:
Dear Friends,
We are planning to hold the Eid Dinner on 19th (Sunday). This would be combined along with GIM Musica held by Razzmatazz.
The menu for the same is:
Veg Menu: Paneer Butter Masala Mix Veg Korma Dal Fry Veg Pulao Bread
My mouth started watering soon after reading the menu :w00t:..... an awesome term this is for sure.....not one day has gone by without surprises. This week began wid a bang, the first Razzie party of the year at Tito's. Oh wat a party!! the ones who could and the ones who couldnt shake their legs all joined to have some unadulterated fun on the dance floor. Those who missed out on the party for some or the other reason sure were jealous after the pix were multicasted on the ip messenger. thsi was the very first event for our very own JCC Razzies Ivan,Renza,Anuj and Sujay. We danced away thru the nite till 4 in the morning....came back by 5 to college and guess wat!! we had a Proctor and Gamble case discussion in Professor Barnabas's class at 8:30 in the morning!!!
I still remember the expressions in the class and the CP that was going on in class, people have this knack of doing CP at the moment they suspect their eyelids falling.:poketoungeb:
Today there was Puzzled event organised by Hriday. Was a fun filled event with loads of brain tickling puzzles and mazes. Some more quizes and events are to be organised by Team BrainVista, SOFIA(Finance Club),MECCA(Markting Club) and Kshitiz.
Also the Student PR cell has started the GIM t-shirt/Sweatshirt design competition from yesterday. The best design is printed on the t-shirts and sweatshirts and the creator gets the same for free. But more than the prize is the pride to be able to see ur design on the college t-shirt.:new_multi:
I'm simply loving this term, though the subjects are tougher than the first term, but then as they say every dark cloud has a silver lining. And the silver lining over here is the fact that we are in GOA and at GIM.

If the last week was of festivals, this week was dediacted to events by all the clubs of the college.
I dont remeber the exact dates, so JCCs kindly forgive me, but I participated in all of the....
It kicked off with the IT Clubs grand opening event Chhappar Phaad ke, where a unique blend of luck and brains was required to qualify to the final round which was eventually an adaptation of the game bluff master...only the survey questions were directly related to IT and GIM.
Then we had the HRiday event "PUZZZLED" which was a jumbled words elims and then 3 rounds of gruelling Visual reasoning and brain twisting to find the answer. The round culminated in absolute fireworks when one of the most intellectual students of our batch, knowing that he had lost the quiz, took a brave risk by bidding for 50 points and almost did the puzzle, but was disallowed in the last moment plummeting his score to a phenomenal -50....It was intellectual fun beyond imagination.
Then came the Society of Finance (SOFIA) event called which again had a prelims which involved a Sudoku Puzzle and Biz trivia. I had fielded a Team of my MECCA JCC members and we did the biz trivia allright, but ,missed the Su Doku. 8 teams qualified and they played an innovative board game themed on the stock market where the regulators were called the danda.
Then came the Grandest of them all....MECCA, The Marketing Club (of which I am a core committe member (so forgive the enthu), SELL A PAL. Where teams had to sell a member who after spending many years in a normal proffession like an investment banker, rocket scientist, journalist and Economist...had now switched to whacko professions like fox hunter, WWF wrestler, Disco DJ and belly dancers. Second round involved the teams getting to pick mone random person from the audience and selling him to the judges. A huge turnout for event. MECCA was the only club to to roll out its second event by now after the smash Hit Lalkaar, a product placement event.
Rest in the next post.
3 More events to describe...but now too tired to keep my eyes open!!!!!!!!!!
Well as snape said the week belonged to the events of different clubs and it was like a everyday we had one or the other club organising its event Taking his points forwards, we had a blast at titos(the most happening and loudest disc in Goa) and all the credit goes to the new JCCs of Razzies for it.The DJ was the best goa can offer and for people like me cold drinks were cheaper than most of the other discs then there was GIM musica and ID dinner and the singing and dancing went deep into the nite and then there was the industrial visit to crompton and greaves (thanks i3 club and its new jccs)
but taking all into the account, the last week was a bit free with only 3-4 classes a day and few assignments. the current week is back to normal wid FM, IGP test and 3 case study of OR and 2 cases of marketing and an ECO project(which i hvnt started)
Diwali celebrations in GIM are very very special. Am surprised that none of our regular contributors (Snape , Akkinaya and the rest) have mentioned anything about it. For the benefit of all the guys visiting the thread and to generate nostalgia among our seniors, here's an account of Diwali celebrations in Campus.
Diwali celebrations were held on the 28th of November. Goa celebrates Diwali on the day that Lord Krishna slays the demon Narakasura and hence 27th Oct was the official holiday granted to the students.(the holiday was just in name as the Finance students still had classes, so glad that I took marketing 😃 ). however as majority of the students wanted to celebrate Diwali on the day of Lakshmi Puja and the day when Ram returns to Ayodhya, hence it was celebrated on the 28th of December.
on 26th nite, quite a few guys from campus went to Panjim at 00:00 hrs to watch the procession of Narakasura's. Every year there is a competition held for the best Narakasura effigy and this year was no different with a wide variety of effigies being paraded around to win top prize.
During the festive period, the college was lit up as usual with lights and stars etc.. Prayas provided everyone with candles and diyas to light up their rooms. lots of the devotees also bought their own decorations to celebrate the festive occasion.
On the 28th, Puja was held in the Quad around 8 p.m. After this dinner,(pure veg) was served in the quad. I hope everyone else enjoyed the food as much as we did. after that at 10 p.m. , the gates were opened. To where u may ask,..Well the one, the only, that most elusive place where no man ever goes, (or rather where he is barred from going). THE LADIES HOSTEL!!!
Diwali time is the only time when guys are allowed access to the LH for a couple of hours in order to wish everyone. Otherwise it carries a hefty 1000 bucks fine for entering the LH. After that the next 2 hours were pure pandemonium. Describing it here in public forum would not do it justice. Lets just say that it was a lot of fun. 😃 and an experience that can be shared only by experiencing it after u get here and celebrate Diwali here along with us.
Diwali kinda marks the end of a journey for us at GIM. It signals that its time to start preparing wholeheartedly for placement season and also makes us seniors aware that we have such a short stay left at this paradise on earth that we call the Goa Institute of Management.
Here's hoping that this beautiful festival of lights continues to light everyone's life for several years to come.
