Allan,
Your post made me realise suddenly how fast time has passed. Diwali at GIM is something I'm aware that every student(read males!!) awaits for the entire year. Its not just the festivities but certain traditions which i'm sure is unique to GIM.
For guys its the only day in the entire year that they are allowed LEGAL entry into Ladies Hostel. The girls decorate their rooms and welcome the guys to their rooms with sweets and chocolates.
I was one of the guys who missed on it this time as I had some urgent things to look into at Mumbai and had to go. But am surely going to be awaiting for the day next year when the doors of Ladies hostel will be opened once again, even though for a short while.
Allan, one more thing that dawned on me is the fact that it wont be long before the placement week comes and you all shall begin your journey away from GIM, away from us. Its like parting away from your family members. But am sure the moments that you spend here will be there for you to cherish for the rest of ur lives, and nothing can take that away.
Some pics of the diwali celebrations at GIM.....

Well i don't quite agree with this !!
Hi guys,
The post Diwali phase of the GIM life is supposedly the best phase....and there are many reasons for that:
1) The placement season is just a few weeks away. The nervousness, the whole bunch of mixed sentiments flowing around, the preparation, the sudden spike in late night coffee sessions at Aunty Maria's, the sporadic catharsis of emotions.....all these are gonna be remembered for a long long time....
Those who would be experiencing it would be the only ones who can best describe these moments...
2) The best part of this phase starts post placements when you know that since u have just one sem to look forward to as far as ur pgdm in GIM is concerned, you would rather spend this sem outside GIM.

3) And then there is Holi which is like the icing on the cake....u celebrate Holi like you have never played ever

So, the best phase is already on....so make the best of it !!

Guys,
You need to realise that when you are preparing for XAT and are looking at GIM....A LOT IS AT STAKE...
If you make it, perks simply go beyond a nice fat packege*
(* recession fears notwithstanding)
You will spend two of the finest years of your life here with the most amazing people u will ever meet.
You will do the wierdest things....and the kick that you cannot comapre with anything else.
U will play pela pela in the hostel
U will go on bike rides at 3 am...
U will ask for the end term syllabus at 4 am...4.5 hours before the exam begins
U will go on parties organised by RAZZMATAZZ...(U gotta attend one to believe how wildly they ROCKKK!!!)
U will score high in subjects U never imagined....
U will crack cases by the dozen...
AND AND AND AND AND AND AND AND AND .......
U WILL CELEBRATE DIWALI GIM STYLE!!!
So now u will sk whats so special about DIWALI@GIM...
Well guys, its a well guarded secret. What happens at Diwali in GIM is a unique experience that is a perk of working hard enough to be among the 1 in every 100 applicants who make it here.
Its a way u will never forget in your life...
and celebrate diwali that way only twice in your life.
We do not have firecrackers worth a million bucks, we dont call celebrities, we dont have anything flashy....but the celebration is such that it will leave you gobsmacked!!! and take that from me..
so if u really wanna know what this diwali celebration secret is...
ASPIRE.....STRIVE....ACHIEVE....
be at GIM Batch of 2011
AND SEE FOR YOURSELF!!!
ALL THE BEST!!!!

ASPIRE.....STRIVE....ACHIEVE....
Couldnt agree more

Hi Aspire Bhai,
glad to see you on your thread after such a long time!!
Well unfortunately the ASPIRE STRIVE ACHEIVE line was not selected by the PR Cell for the purpose of putting on a GIM Sweatshirt cos it turned out to be similar to some pre existing tagline but my graphic design for the Sweatshirt got selected and I now have been promised a free sweatshirt by the cell!!!
Life at GIM is going on the same old pace.
You know I do not have a bike here in Goa. and Goan transport system shuts down as profoundly as I sometimes do in some of the 8 30 lectures after I have finished an assignment till 3 am and studies for a quiz till 5 30am!!!
So I had resigned myself to the fate of being holed up in my room and not see Goa...
But little did I know that I will have friends who will generously carry me all across Goa and I will enjoy the best Goa has to offer.
The other day I realised my longtime dream of visiting the legendary Anjuna flea market.
A bunch of people were going and I asked our dear Razzamtazz JCC Sujay Raikar if there ws a backseat available? Sujay told me that they were running short of 2 seats and that he will inform me if a vacancy comes up.
I got Lucky. three ppl dropped out and the group had a spare seat...which was promptly allotted to me by Sujay.
I kinda cleared a waitlist...and guess whose bike I got to ride..
None other than Sanjay Sinha aka Matrixisback on his shiny black Pulsar 150 which devoured Goan Roads like they were uncle chipps!!!
Matrixisback, known for his financial prowess in the batch, rode the bike like as if he was trying to validate the company claimed top speed of Bajaj Pulsar!! There came a time on the way back, when the speedometer hit 100 and everything became a blur.....it was 2am and the experience was risky...but I thought the finance bond must have done the risk benefit analysis....
THE ANJUNA FLEA MARKET
First of all Anjuna flea market no longer has any fleas. Its just been turned into a tourist spectacle where everything is priced 5 times above the market rate and you see more russians that indians!! None of us who had never been out of India had ever seen as many foreigners at one place ever....Our groupleader Sujay Raikar gave us a short lecture on how to conduct ourselves in the market..even though some people were loathe to listen to him!!
But the best part was that the market did have a few curious items on display..
among them a full gear for dominatrix, whip and the leather bikini and al that stuff!!....
a pirated copy of the book Kama Sutra....
I almost bought a really real looking Fake russels pit viper snake....but was stopped by the better judgement of SAC member Praneeth Reddy who feared a heartattack was a very real possibility if I used it!!
We wandered around the Market for a long while soaking in the environment and then visited a subway on our way back.
Goa has got no McDonalds and being a Goan, Raikar discussed a plan to become the sole franchisee of McD in Goa.....but then he was already a beer down and u cant fault him!!! :poketounge:
We got a glimpse of how well policed a state Goa is, cos we were twice stopped for routine checking and both times the GIM card worked its magic....
We were back and despite buying nothing, we had great experience...
watch this space for the details of my CALANGUTE TRIP....
Cheers

Thanks Snape.. My work hours are pretty long..so by the time I reach home I am far too tired to do any posting on pg :)...BTW pg is not blocked here at infy :)...
Regarding not having a bike... hmm there were quite a few "networkers" who dint have a bike, but managed to see the length and breath of Goa.. so no worries.. U will be making more friends that way :)..
INGO's 😉 It is one place in goa where we feel that we are in some foreign land 😁 try out the kebabs at that sardarji stall..the portuguese food stalls as well as the sushi ones are great..
I drove a Haryana registered bike without NOC for 2 years...covered more than 10k kms in 2 years.... but never paid a penny to any of the policewalas GIM i card rocks, I still carry it in my purse.. just for old times sake :)
Great to see that you guys are having fun, I hope ur getting the daily quizzes which I have been sending ...
Sometimes such times come on a man....
That he has to decline even if Yamraj comes for him...I am absolutely eyeballs deep in work...
the lod has reached such phenomenal levels that I have stopped keeping track cos it only adds to the stress!!!
These are those times for GIM PGP1 batch right now...
People think Goa is Full of beaches, fun, masti, sasta daru, babes and bikinis and long lazy sunny days....
as a matter of fact thats not far from the truth..
But the problem is that inside GIM there 3 villains in this otherwise perfect story.
First Culprit is called the CASE STUDY. It comes unannounced in soft and hard forms and often comes ingangs of 3 or 4.....yesterday we were overwhelemed by a combined attack of 8 studies. We were helpless against this deluge. Only those who know swimming will save themselves from drowning.
The second villain is a thug called Assignment. It also comes in a knot of 3 and has an uncanny ability to eat up all the time you have got and makes a big attack on your happiness. Often dealing with this criminal requires groupwork which saps your energy like anything....
Third and most dangerous of the triad is Quiz. It is announced or often pounces on you as you nurse a hangover at 8 30 in the morning. The end result is that you are clueless and you lose the streetfight!!
Quizzes if announced, can rob you of days of peace of mind and make your existance dark and dreary...
So all you guys who are planning a two year vacation in Goa and get an PGP degree and a nice fat package at the end of it all...
please be my guest cos what a sick pleasure it would be to see all you holidaymakers be fried in the oil of the academic rigours of MBA!!!
GIM is in Goa.
But there is nothing Goa about GIM!!!
Goa is SUN N SANDS
GIM is blood and sweat!!
Buckle up Dororthy,
cos Goa is going bye bye!!!!!!!!!
Hi senior
is sectional cut off required?
if yes then what is no of quation should attempt sectional wise reference to last year?
GIM is in Goa.
But there is nothing Goa about GIM!!!

Well, i don't quite understand how this can even become a predicament here !!
Think of it.
You are done with your 3 things u mentioned, viz quiz, assignments and case-studies, the only thing that can come to your rescue is GOA!!!
And that is what is in GIM!! The feeling that you are in Goa is the essence of being in GIM.
And vice versa, which is the feeling of being in Goa brings about the essence of GIM. I hope u guys are getting me.
Don't waste your time writing posts here...and doing nothing....go somewhere, anywhere....and then write about what u did!!
You aren't doing justice to this thread by saying that some shitty work is pulling u back from not having a rocking time out there in those lovely beaches..or those forts...or those night out places!!
Cmon guys....go out and go rocking!!

Blood is most precious gift you can give anyone The students at GIM demonstrated that they have well imbibed the essence of this sentence, when they all turned up in huge numbers on 27th November, 2008 for The GIM Annual Blood Donation Camp organized by the HR club of GIM HRiday this time in association with www.bloodhelpline.org an online blood donation initiative.
This years event witnessed a huge turnout, more than 80 boys and girls volunteered, however, only 74 were eligible. The venue was alive with emotions and donors, both regular and beginners, were all enthusiastically awaiting their turn; eager yet nervous. However all these feelings culminated into a satisfying smile as they arose after donating; reflecting a sense of accomplishment a feeling of having contributed to the nation; a feeling of having made a difference.
The event was backed by a Blood Donation Awareness Campaign carried out by the event organizers highlighting the benefits of blood donation, educating the students as to Why should they donate? and informing them of the Dos and Donts of blood donation. A dedicated Helpline was also instituted to respond to the queries of the probable donors on a one on one basis. But the actual trigger laid in the amazing videoA call from existing donor asking others to join in. The appeal touched the hearts of one and all; it stirred up their souls and helped convert the reluctant minds into proud donors.
This was perhaps the heaviest ever turnout for this event in GIM history; it has set standards for the future students of GIM to continue this legacy but more importantly it has given the country new Donorscitizens who from now on will bear the flag for Blood Donationdonating every time the need arises.

Life at GIM.....
Today shifted gears...
after a flurry of presentations and quizzes shifted gears to a more leisurely pace. Even though it is nothing but a deceptive lull before a mighty storm called the END TERMS!!!
But its a beautiful lull.
The Goan weather is seen to be believed. The sun is bright and soft. Bright because there is not a cloud iin the sky and being from the dusty hamlet of Mumbai I never knew sky could be this azure!! and Soft because unlike the Northern sun, u can stay in the sun whole day in Goa and not be irritaed but feel the warm caress of the solar glow!!!
I cant help but stare at the serenity of Mandovi which flows just a few feet from GIM .....whose placidity is only broken by an occassional ferry or an overloaded barge lumbering along.....
Let alone the natural beauty of Goa, the scenes in the vicinity of GIM are a spectacle. During the evening, there is orange tint in the sky and sun goes down like scarlet ball sinking in the horizon....
For once I can relate to a long list of GIM alumni who took huge cuts in salaries but stayed back in Goa after placements....
God has been kind to me. I have one thing less to worry about than my batchmates. So Sitting in the balcony with my feet up the wall, slowly sipping the TANG I brewed in my room, taking in the cool evening Mandovii Breeze...
I mean I had made a pact with myself that I will not fall in love in Goa....
But its soooo bloody romantic that I dunno if I can hold any longer...
Case studies and quizzes...hell do I care...
GIM ROCKSSSS!!!!

Yes Jha bhai agree with you completely. It is one of the most beautiful times in Goa rite now. And though snape has tried his best to describe the atmosphere in Goa, words are not enough!!! A pleasant walk to the ferry point in the evenings, with a select group of ur closest friends, having a sip of ginger tea at Casa's, Eating garama garam Bhajiya's(pakoda's) at Ferry point, And taking a free ride to Divar Island, is something that has become a part of life, which we are surely gonna take with us for the rest of our lives. Gazing at the mandovi river flow by gently meeting the sea some distance away, I see myself similarly transforming from an ordinary individual into an entity transcending horizons. With end terms nearing and the placement week due for the seniors the tension is palpable. The library is full, the common room is full., everywhere you see students studying late into the nite. Also recently snape has started a survey of the number of people who are active on their ip at exactly 3 in the morning, and it is never below 100!!!.

The 39th IFFI concluded on the 2nd of this month and had lots to look forward to. Though the movies this year were disappointing, they made up in terms of the food stalls that were put up outside the venue. Lucking Me and my roommate got to steal some time from our busy schedules to have some good chat. Also we relished the Baida roti at the Bade Miya's stall, Momo's and Icecream.

There is a very important person coming to campus in the next month about which I shall be writing in detail in the next post. And you would really want to know more about this for sure!!! Keep watching this space.....
Cheers!!
