Hey Guys
Got a interesting news for you !
GIM is working towards a series of events which will involve celebrated global management thinkers. World-class management guru Dr. C.K Prahalad and Prof. Anoop Madhok from the York University, among others, will be part of this impressive initiative.
As part of the initiative, Dr. Prahalad will be travelling to Goa in the second week of January 2009 to speak at an event hosted by GIM on the theme Global Restructuring of Industries. Is there an India Advantage?
There is a significant restructuring of industries, be it the financial services, automation, pharmaceuticals, publishing or entertainment. Part of it is caused by the current financial crisis but the trends are as much driven by long term and enduring changes in technology, consumer expectations and globalization. Does the Indian industry have the unique opportunity to reposition itself in this process of global change? What are the advantages that the Indian industry can leverage? How will this transform emerging Indian multinationals and what impact will it have on western multinationals? All this and more will be debated at the convention.
In its efforts to strengthen its existing visiting faculty, GIM has also invited Mr. Anoop Madhok a senior professor at the Schulich School of Business, York University to conduct lectures at the institute, while encouraging him to do a sabbatical in Goa. Mr. Madhok has taught extensively in management schools located in North American, Europe and Asia.
In short, a great initiative by director !

Hi Guys,
They say stolen kisses are the sweetest....
So fortunately or unfortunately, though I never did have an opportunity to "steal" a kiss, I am now in possession of something stolen, which is as sweet.
and just like a kiss....I know this is not gonna last forever, but the memories will last me the whole of term three.
I am back to Mumbai and its already day two of term three and some unavoidable circumstances have meant that I will remain in Mumbai....WITH NOTHING TO DO!!!...for the 3 more days!!!!
I have stolen 4 days from the rigours of GIM...Now its not that I dont like GIM....
But Boss, 3 days of PURE 24 CARAT TP,
1) with nothing to do while GIM friends endure luctures,
2) with Mama's kitchen belting out the choicest of dishes,
3) lying around whole day like a hippo in water....
4) Going to Siddhivinayak..(Dont worry ppl, I will get u the prasad!)
5) Watching movies at Mumbai Multiplexes
6) Roaming around in Supermarkets from a Marketing Students point of view..
7) Meeting old friends, "special" friends, even old foes...(yeah I have them!!)
just what I needed after a physically and emotionally turbulent term two to rejuvinate myself for term three!!
So let me not waste time posting on Pagalguy and enjoy this stolen kiss to the fullest....
Hmmm....I can already smell the aroma of Cheese and Spring Onion Parathas wafting from the kitchen....so though I wanted to write more...I gotta go sample of the exquisite fare before I handover my stomach to the trashpot tapri near Morgue hostel ;-)!!!
(batchmates feeling envious after this post....it was intentional )
Cheers...
The start of Term 3...the so called term where the GIMites get to freak out...(as though we were short of it all these days!!)
It has been a peaceful opening two days with basically the whole campus on jet lag mood.classes have been few and far in between and its a relaxed atmosphere. But we all know about the.."Calm before the storm".
We are gonna kick off our new year with a quiz which could determine our term..Yeah..we do things differently here.
More updates once GIM starts buzzing again.
Complements of the season for all the people on the forum.

Hi Guys,

Now why would any sane person groan at this post :eyepop:
In GIM, and any B School for that matter,
u cant plan one hour ahead. Only things like lectures and GBMs are planned. In between, anything and everything can happen.
Same happened to me today...
After the lecture was wrapped up at 2 pm....I made my way to the mess for some petrol for my engine. But what they had there should ideally have been used in making real petrol...
Soyabean!!!
We have an exotic dish called Lubiya, a sabzi of whole soyabean...really damn nutritious, but tastes like...well....
which makes an appearence on the mess menu every now and then....sending people scurrying for cover...
Now like a nice guy, I save my dad's hard earned money and espouse the virtue of frugality....But the sight of lubiya made me make a decision that I will eat out even if i have to take an educational loan at 13% to finance that meal!!!
And with a close group of friends, I made my way to casa's, a 60 year old eatery almost the size of my personal room back in our Mumbai apartment...situated bang on the banks of the mandovi...
After the meal....as I was making my way back to college I figured that the weather was a bit too hot and Mandovi way too cool.
THE WATER WAS SIMPLY BECKONING ME...MAKING ME AN OFFER COULDNT REFUSE!!!
Next stop.... I flung my belongings to a friend and Jumped into the Mandovi!!!
Swam there for 10 minutes...a video was shot...threw away my sandals cos they were getting heavy while swimming..
Swam like a fish....It was sooooo much fun!!! After the torture of term two...I was EXHILIRATED after a very long time.
Such was the adrenalin rush that I had gnashed my toes on jagged rocks...and realised the injury when I saw the blood on my feet!!! No pain at all...(I hope it heals fast...)
So the idea is, when ure in Goa...and GIM....Do what your heart says. I have done it, trust me....You wont regret it...
we are all here so that we can follow our heart. And every now and then when the opportunity comes......
JUST DO IT!!!
GIM ROXXXX!!!!

PANAJI: It is moral leadership along with economic strength and technological vitality that will help India achieve its aspirations, Dr C K
Prahalad, one of the foremost business thinkers of our times, told management students on Saturday at Dona Paula.
Dr Prahalad, professor, Ross School of Business, United States and elected as the most influential living management thinker by Thinkers 50 of Times of London and Suntop Media, was speaking as part of a lecture series organised by the Goa Institute of Management (GIM).
Speaking on the theme 'Global Restructuring of Industries. Is there an India Advantage?', the internationally known management guru said that India being home to one of the youngest populations of the world has vast potential. "If we have the collective aspiration, by 2022 we can have the world's largest pool of trained manpower. We will have 200 million college graduates, 500 million trained skilled workforce and the highest universal literacy."
Further, he said that when resources are low and aspirations are high is when innovations take place and not when the condition is the other way round. "Constraints create opportunity for creation of innovation," said Dr Prahalad. However, he stressed that none of it is attainable without a moral leadership.
Dr Prahalad said that the world needs a new moral voice which India can provide as a country since, universality and inclusiveness is practiced with its wide variety of cultures, languages and religions. Earlier, addressing reporters, he said that there is a probability of restructuring of all industries like information technology, healthcare, manufacturing etc adding that the pharmaceutical industry is already going through this restructuring. He also said that there will be more fragmentation of industries in the future. But whether India has an opportunity in the global restructuring is a question mark but restructuring will take place with or without India, he added.
Dr Prahlad, said although India is affected by the economic slowdown, it should deal with it expeditiously and how fast it handles is important. "It is time to prove this country has the courage to set it right. India has to focus on how to create a massive global market. It has the potential, cash, infrastructure but the real problem is pushing domestic economy to grow faster."
Dr Prahlad said that the factual position is that India is a fast growing economy and being a superpower is an aspiration. Responding to a question on opportunities available to entrepreneurs in times of recession, Dr Prahalad said that at such times it is best to start a venture of your own or study further.
Reacting to the recently ended strike called by executives of oil companies, Dr Prahalad said that it points to the need for labour reforms. "We should ponder whether a few executives are holding thousands in the unorganized sector hostage who are not objecting. For example the Goan fisherman who cannot venture out fishing because there is no diesel available."

3 cheers to PGP1's and kudos to the PGP2's
The CS tournament at GIM began yesterday with a bang. One of the most favorite games at GIM and with some real good players in both the batches. It kick started with strategies being discussed in rooms and at meeting places known to only a select few players. The PGP1's selected the best of best from their batch and created a team of 16 to be pitted against the ruthless PGP2 A team. The PGP1's thought that with their strategies in place it would be really difficult to be beaten.
Den the Game began and the picture cleared.......Man !!! den we realised what it was to be pitted against the best in the game.Could not have described it any other way. With every win going to the seniors it was difficult to keep up hopes of having a single win in the race to 13 games that was decided.
Our strategy failed!!! and den all hell broke loose!!....one by one we were loosing all the games and den finally the scores were at 26-0 .....the seniors came out from their den's with empty bottles and whistles blowing hard letting the entire college know how they defeated the juniors!!!.....we were even afraid to come out of our rooms lest we shall be spanked....!!!
Slowly we took the courage to pick up the game from where we left it. Today was a new day and with new strategies and hopes and ofcourse with lot of advice from the seniors(PGP2 A section) we joined the server to put our strategies to practice. The PGP2 B team was the winner last time and had defeated the A team last year.
In todays match we took sweet revenge by putting up a good defense against the awesome PGP2 B guys nd gals(Minali) and won 5 games albeit the overall win went to PGP2's. But the happiness of having won 5 matches after the terrible loss yesterday was enough reason for everyone to go out screaming from their rooms and dancing in front of OT for a long time. Everyone decided that it was time for a celebration. This was the first time in my life that I was celebrating for a defeat not because we are morons but because we knew we were up against the best and still won 5 games against them.
We all took out our bikes and went to Fidalgo our favorite hangout and celebrated this small victory which nevertheless meant a lot to us.

Just returned back from a party at Club West End in Saligao, Goa... Had a lot of fun clubbing as usual.. Right now, I m in a bit of a nostalgic mood as this party would almost certainly be my penultimate party that we organized as Razzmatazz members.. Last thing that we have left in our kitty as far as clubbing goes is the final farewell for which there is still time.. Its been a great run as Razzmatazz members.. I am sure , I speak for all of us , Aman, Brinelle , Sumegh and me when we say that we have enjoyed every moment of organising events for the campus and we always tried to maintain a high standard in terms of organisation for any event held by us as Razzies.. Our JCC displayed their competence very adequately in handling this event and going forward , we know the future of the club is in good hands..
Some of the PGP 2's have finished their courses and planning to depart later in the day for their respective homes.. Today at the party, It has slowly begin to kick in that , the beautiful Mandovi bank upon which rests this heaven that we call as GIM shall not be our home for much longer.. The countdown has already started and several seniors have already changed their Gtalk status messages to numbering their days left. Going ahead, corporate life should be another adventure of life and a natural progression but one wants to savour every moment of this time that we have left.. It seems that 2 years have just flown by in a jiffy and that suddenly now its time to go
One of the greatest advantadges and disadvantadges of GIM are its location and size.. To the outsider, the campus may look small.. But to those live here, this is the campus's greatest strength..coz bcoz of d small campus, here every one knows every one by name and at some point of time in the 2 years strong lifelong bonds have been built with several batch mates.. which is what is driving my feelings of nostalgia tonight.. GIM campus is barely a 20 mins ride from my house.. Yet, I go home only about once a week, such is my love for the place and the attraction and revour that I bear for it..
Last year, we used to laugh at our seniors when they used to give us similar talks . Now that the tables are turned, some of the stuff pops into memory often..
On a brighter note, I seem to have the next 5 days off, due to my brilliant schedule and hence I intend to make full use of this.. An exploration of unseen places in Goa, and a planned unplanned trip is on the cards.. The planned unplanned trip basically refers to a group of us who plan to just ride off away from college , backpacking , without a fixed destination in mind for abt 3-4 days b4 we return back for classes..M looking forward anxiously towards the same...
Thats all for now, all GIM aspirants and other college thread visitors please bear with this long post which is quite personal in nature.. :)
Cheers

No action here... for a long time?

Professionally, I think it's a wonderful way of wrapping up the entire first year curriculum by ensuring that students go through the entire course in an integrated exercise.....:wow:
Personally, however, I find it a herculean task to go through 25-odd subjects with slides and notes of each.....

Anyways, for a break, we're all going to Tito's for the farewell party today......
Over to Akki et al for further updates.
Cheers,

Officially this should be in a thread called Life after GIM rather than Life@GIM. Almost a month has passed since we left GIM.. Cant believe its been just a month.. Feels like ages!! Everyone I spoke to recently has been feeling extremely bored at home..and life is limping back into normalcy..Late nights are now defined as being awake at 1 am..
Work has started and I have been fighting my daily battles with the Mumbai local trains..Its been a great learning curve and certainly a baptism by fire in travelling from Nerul to Dadar every day..!!
Now that we are alumni, I would love to know where the alumni meet is being held in Mumbai on 30th.. Jha, Akshay or any of the others could you shed some light on this please??
This thread seems to have slowed down a lot..Guys plz do keep sharing ur experiences about Life@GIM so that we can keep in touch with our Alma Mater..
Cheers

Nice post Allan...specially about late nights 😃 Nerul to Dadar.. I dont think u need to get ur wardrobe ironed now :D
And yes.. seriously no action here on this thread... guys must be busy with their summer projects... and yes the new look of pg looks funky 😃
Hi People,
Life at GIM....the good old life at GIM...
I still remeber the day I posted on this thread...it was a surreal experience. No kidding or exaggeartion here. Posting here made me feel part of the GIM family more than the registration process in F2 did!!!
I am not at home....I am earstwhile home because GIM is my new home now. The other day Raikar, AVK, Bouncer and Avanti had come for my birthday party and I showed them my room, christened "OT8A (Mumbai Branch)" !!!!!
No need to write cliched crap like I miss GIM and all that....
Yesterday on my way back from the office, Nitiksh announced that his railway pass was about to expire...which means we had already spent more than a month away from our beloved yellow fortress....awww man...I began pining for the banks of the Mandovi the way I pined for Mumbai back in Goa 😛 !!!
I dont really miss GIM...because what is GIM....nothing but a 400 year old structure of brick and mortar...
what I miss is the people. Thats what makes GIM worth missing. The buzz, the life, the problems, the solutions, the gossip, the frustrations, the triumphs, the amazing Lubiya (hehe) and the unlimited and free supply of global gyaan....I cant believe I have lived one whole month without it.
And the saddest part is I cannot slow time down...and in a snap, my remaining year too will be over...
Pata nahi uss din main kya karoonga...
Cheers
Snape.
Though I am still not entitled to post in this thread but couldnt control my excitement.
It all started in the last week of December when I purchased the form for GIM. I was excited at the thought of doing an MBA from one of the best B-Schools of country. And cherry on the cake was doing it from GOA.
So I sat for XAT, tired from the whole night traveling to reach the centre in a city 300kms from my place. I just had one aim. To score enough marks to get a call from GIM. I did decently well in XAT. But when the result came I was just a notch above the cut-off score for GIM.
Got the call and was elated.
Had chosen Delhi as my centre. Was nervous for the interview as this year there was no GD only an essay and PI. The essay was a bone of contention for me since my handwriting was worse than a 1st grader.
Neways the interview went fabulous. Was waiting for results. Got my result while traveling from manipal to Mumbai in a train. REJECTED. Heartbroken I passed through madagaon in the train. Tears dropped from my eyes as my dream was lost.
Got on with my life. Was selected in another B-School and totally forgot about GIM.
Suddenly woke up one fine morning to find a letter from GIM on my table saying I am waitlisted. I skipped a heartbeat. Was all excited and nervous. Excited coz there was a ray of hope again. And nervous coz if I dint clear the waitlist it would be like. Reaching the edge of the ocean and then drowning.
Neways I was in Delhi for some work. Got a call. Picked it up. And a lady with the sweetest voice said "Congratulations Shreye you have been selected for GIM." I literally started jumping in the restaurant I was sitting in front of loads of people. I dint care what everybody was thinking I was just the happiest person on earth that time.
And, the irony was it was 5th of May, Connaugt Place when I received the call abt my selection, 2 months from the date I gave my interview which was at connaught place only. So Delhi was lucky for me!!!
With all super excited I joined the google, orkut communities of GIM. I was one of the 120 lucky people to have the tag of GIM. From that day its been the long wait of getting to GIM. Now only 8 days are left.
Made some good friends before reaching. Feeling sad too for leaving the place I have been for 21 yrs of my life in. Leaving all the friends behind in hope of making new one. Leaving my home to get my 2nd Home. The phrase "End is just a new Beginning" is very apt right now.
In the End I am the lucky few to say MBA and GOA both in the same sentence.
Finally, completed my summers! Overall, it was a good learning experience. I had interaction with a few MBA students too (coming from B-schools comparable to GIM). One thing which I realized while interacting with them was that level of GIM is far higher than those B-schools. The most striking feature which I instantaneously felt was the sort of scheduling done at GIM (most of the other students didnt even know when there colleges are re-opening and here we have full one year schedule before us well in advance) or the type of support/facilities GIM offers to its students, I found GIM to be better in every aspect. Academically too, we have got a stronger base than them. The sort of projects we have done, reports we have prepared, assignments we have submitted, strict academic regulations we have followed, it is simply differentiates us from the rest. Also, the freedom we enjoy (No incoming-outgoing timings!) is not something which many B-schools allow. Thanks for this summer experience, I am even more proud to be a part of this prestigious college and I am sure many of my GIM friends would also have had a similar experience.
Raring to go back to GIM again, this time as PGP2s. By the time we come back campus would be buzzing with PGP1s. However, would dearly miss ever-supportive seniors. GIM would never look same without you people. Hope to meet you all soon at Grand Alumini meet.
Cheers

GIM, Batch of 2010
"PGP2's", can never fully associate myself with this term. For me my seniors will always be the PGP2's and us the PGP1's. But as life moves on so do we, and we shall be the PGP2's for our juniors.
True to what aspire said about the silence on this thread, it was more of the vacuum created with the graduation of our senior batch and the feeling of emptiness. As jha rightly mentions, What is GIM, nothing but a 400 year old building!! What makes it special for each one of it the eclectic mix of individuals that we interact and share a special bond with.
Earlier there were moments when having left my plum job at JP Morgan I would look back and wonder whether I made a wrong career decision. The words of my erstwhile Project manager used to sharply ring in my ears," Akshay are u sure of ur decision". I had said with the sincerest conviction "Yes, I have made my decision". The finality of those words at times pinched me when the going got tough and recession set in. But with each passing day I realise one very important thing, placements and careers are one part of MBA, definitely an important part, but much more than that is the fact that you cannot get such a support system anywhere else in this world as in GIM. The reassurance by the batchmates, seniors made me realise that yes there is hope, cause our foundations are strong and only the buildings whose foundations are strong last forever.
The building of GIM is a memorial to this spirit of GIM which is strong and lively even after so many years of seeing new B-schools opening round every corner street.
A week from now on the 15th of june GIM will be welcoming a new bunch of people in its arms.Another set of bright individuals who have left other B schools which are supposedly ranked higher. They will get the same warmth and sense of belonging that we felt exactly one year ago.
Allan, I truly understand when you say that life after GIM would never be the same. These 2 months away from GIM has been more painful than ever for me, cause this was the longest that I stayed away from it. It makes me sad at times when I think of the time when we have to bid adieu to GIM and be pursuing our respective careers. I remember one of the seniors saying in the washroom at Tito's that he never expected to cry at the time of Farewell, since crying is what ladies do. But he was uncontrollable as tears flew down his cheeks and the realisation of having to go away from the place that was home for 2 years set in. That one sight still haunts me and makes me wonder what I shall do that day.
