As said before ...Life goes on 24/7 at GIM .....
Hi All,
This day was one of the best days at GIM.Actually this was the best day which you can ask from any B school.I had heard of GIM culture but first time I witnessed it:D
It all started with Prayas people distributing diyas and the lights in each room so as to prepare whole junta for Room Decoration competition.By 8 every room in both the hostels was glittering with Diyas and the lights on the windows. It seemed like I wasn't at any B school but celebrating Diwali at my home. And then there was pooja held for Diwali. And then it was blast blast. There were crackers given to people ..and they were not some small fuljhadis but bombs and rockets .The show went on for 1 hour.Really loved it .
And then Razzamataz and Prayas came up with the competition and the prizes were given to team.Followed by the sumptuous dinner from Sodexho.
And then,LH was opened for boys and boys thronged the LH as if gals' rooms were room were different from ours and there was some Museum ready to get opened. On a serious note gals have really put in lot of effort to get their rooms decorated with Rangoli .Awesome it was.
Had fun .Had never expected so much from GIM. And it's time to sleep but people havn't finished their pathakas yet. They are still
Off to as have class 2morrow.
Once again,Thanks Prayas and RaZZmatazz for giving us nice time :D
Thanks
Jatin
A fantastic Diwali celebration today! A thoroughly well-organized event through the combined efforts of Prayas and Razzmatazz. Hats off to Sodexo for the samosas and the rest of the snacks and dessert! I had three helpings :)

PGDM- Batch of 2012
If ever there was a place to celebrate Diwali away from home, this was it.
Diwali @ GIM had everything that we could ask for.
Everyone all dressed up n cheerful.
Prayas n Razzmatazz pampered us with Decorations, Sweets, Crackers, Games and Music.
Sodexho served a King's buffet in the canteen.
The coming together of the two batches @ the new campus with the passing of the GIM tradition in the form of diyas. :cheerio:
Visiting the LH and being received like guest in each beautifully decorated room.. :
And today morning classes back in full swing.
Life never stops @ GIM.
Really nice to know that the Diwali tradition continues it is same vibrant form at GIM.
Diwali @ GIM has always been stuff of legend.
As someone evry rightly put it up, that its just like celebrating at home.
During my first year I stayed back actually to check if LH was any different from our rooms and in the second year I stayed back because the first year was so much fun !!!
Besides the poojas and the diyas and the phatakas...the most awaited thing about the Diwali used to be the LH Akraman.
Storming the LH was a tradition of the Hooligans...carried out by absolute gentlemen in the most respectable manner.
The only rule of the LH Akraman was that once you are inside...you can pick up and bring WHATEVER you can find inside....except for the girls of course.
Once the gates of the forbidden city opened at 9 pm...the hoard...made up of the cream of Indian B schoolers and powerful future managers...would rush into the LH and pick up whatever they found in the girl's rooms....
Laptops to novels...buckets to mugs to table clocks to wall hangings to pillows to teddy bears to packets of food to bottles of oil and shampoo...
You name it...it was looted from the rooms.
The plunder would have put the Army of Nadir shah to shame...
and whats more...the plunderers were greeted with chocolates, sweets, pictures, hugs...and an opportunity to write on the slam book or the slam poster that the residents had made up for the plunderers.
A girl's popularity was measured by the number of messages on her wall and the amount of stuff looted from her room.
Then the victorious army would gather their booty and get photographed with it. You will have guys posing in facny lace hats and with cutie cuddly teddy bears....some guy would make a superman cape out of the bright bubblegum pink powerpuff girl;s bedsheet he pulled off from someones bed!!
A 90 kg elephantine PGP 2 was once seeing riding a ladybird in the quad...with his roomie on the carrier....(oh no)
I once brought with me a stuffed chimpanzee and still have a memorable video of waltzing with the furry ape!!
But the beauty of the ceremony completed itself the next day.
Almost each and every item looted, was returned to its rightful owner.
Guys standing with odds and ends in their hands to hand it back at the LH entrance was a common sight. similarly Loads of girls could be seen hauling back their stuff from OT.
Often some guy would forget if he looted the Mills and Boone book from LH10X or 30X...so he will multicast..."the rightful owner of the Mills and Boon book in my possession is kindly requested to ping back..."
So everything which couldn't be eaten, was finally returned and thus lived on the truly unique GIM tradition of LH loot.
In our second year, the looting was banned because there were some things got mispaced. But I still continued the tradition by stealing cloth hanger clips from the rooms of my friends!! Nice little souvenirs they were 😃 :)
Nontheless...Diwali at GIM will rock for ever and it will be my attempt to be there atleast once again in my life...lets see....
Cheers,
Severus Snape
one of the best diwali.... this time saw the pooja being done by a poojari.:wow:... 😃 rooms decorated .. seniors here with us .... boys 1st time on our floor and rooms ... the excitement and thrill all clicking pictures etc .... i was missing my family sad

:D
Folks,
Please put up some picassa link of the pics of the new campus, very keen to see how it has come up.
Have you folks moved to the new campus?
Thanks
Shailesh
Folks,
Could anyone post picassa or any other file sharing link, for pics of the new campus!.
Thanks
Shailesh
Boeing flies into PG after a while a real while - its nostaglic to be back on this thread and the portal (hate to call it the portal though)
The new campus is bit far from complete now - though the bike ride to it is wow. What ever it is - I still love the old one for the campus, casa, deewar and Panjim 😃
Ok, after reading Snape's post on mills and boon and teddy bears here is how 2008 diwali loot actually ended.
Before that a brief summary of rules ( or how we guys played it). The pics of the looted item was multicasted in the intra coll messenger and the rightful owner had to come and get the stuff. Now our seniors, batch of 2007-09 had dumped ( i mean kept) all the loot in OT-11, i.e. Imran and Dhiru bhai's room. The stuff was basically from LH GF and to be precise from 3 rooms of PGP1s. Now they had kept the condition that the loot will be returned if and only if the owner treat the residents of OT-11 with ice cream and a treat in fidalgo.
Now we live in an empowered world. So the residents of LH GH instead of obliging to the OT-11's demand decided to fight back. They picked the wickets, bats, base ball bats and everything else they cud find and entered OT:shocked:. They entered OT-11 like CID enters a room (daya darwaza tod do types:wow:). The ever silent and peaceful OT GF was suddenly resembling Iraq with dhiru bhai running out of the other door and imran standing on his table with both his hands pointing to the roof. The girls demanded their stuff back (yes demanded) and Imran had no option but to say sorry and tell them the exact location of their loot. The girls matched out of OT wid all their stuff (which included a full size mirror) and the pics of the battle was soon multicasted. The pic was a group of 6 girls, standing with bats, wickets and rods in their hand and the loot at their feet.
And this way the famous and probably the last loot of GIM ended !!!!!
Diwali..
well..was first disappointed that wont be home for the first time in my life..and with the gloomy looking clouds hovering over the neighboring made matters worse, but then Prayaas changed it all for me, they came to my room kept 4 diyas, a box containing 4 different types of chocolates and colorful lights to put up on the windows. Kudos to PRayaas team for such thoughtfulness.
This Diwali was slowly turning out to be not so gloomy after all. The room cleaning and decorating followed by the pooja and AWESOME food in the mess was mindblowing.
this was followed by the opening of the doors of the LH for the boys
first time entering in the hallowed hallways of the LH with all the girls inviting us to their rooms was great. But am really jealous of the girls who have got a whole balcony to themselves
Overall...It was a great show put up by PRayaas and the Razzies...
and am grateful to them for making this diwali one of the most memorable ones :cheers::cheers:

Please let it be known that this story contains certain inaccuracies because the writer was not even a resident of OT at that time. He was staying in Admin which is as far as one can get from OT without reaching LH.
The main bone of contention was a full sized mirror and the girls had come back to get it.
That mirror wasnt anyone's personal property but it was the official Floor Mirror of the LHGF, thatswhy everyone had so much lagaav with it.
Maybe it was a very smart mirror...it must be telling every resident...Oooh...u look so thin 😛 😛 :P
I stole that mirror in 2009. I will post the pic on the data from my crash hard disc is retrieved by professionals to whom I have given it.
Also there was a talk of holding the Chimpanzee, lovingly christened as SASA to be held hostage till the goods were returned with honour so that they could be returned "back". But that plan was shelved fearing a inter batch inter gender all out war 😛 :P
UFF UFF KYA DIN THE YAAR WOH BHI...
GIM Diaries Episode 7 Part 2
This experience is again from the WIZBIZ pitches.
It features the now all to familiar star non other than The Rajnikanth of Mecca...Srikanth "I'LL HANDLE IT" Balasubramanian...
Sister of one of our batchmates worked for a bank of national repute. She told us that her bank was very much into sponsoring events everywhere in the country.
So, what did we do next?
Googles the location of the Goa main branch...and set off on Sriki's pushpak vimaan from the stable of TVS...his trusty VICTOR !!
After reaching the Bank we enquired the name of the Bank manager from the watchman at the front gate.
"His name is "Krishnan Fernandes"...replied the guard !!
Then we changed tactics...instead of entering, we headed for the back door. There we saw piles of cash being transferred into the strong room. In Abscence of a concrete plan and weapons for a heist we to cancel any plans of attempting to make that maoney our own....but with Wizbiz deadlines dangerously close...we were seriously tempted.
Anyway, fears about his Victor being able to outrun the Goa Police forced us to stick to the original plan of asking for the money instead of looting it!!
We told the back door guard as if we were from the enforcement directorate..."Krishnan Saab se milna hai"
I took out the laptop from my backpack and held it in my hand.
The watchman eyed the laptop as if it was a naked sword...thinking that a man brandishing a laptop may definitely have something worthwhile for Mr Fernandes...he let us in...
Once inside...we asked a Clerk where could we find Mr Krishnan Fernandes...
The clerk didnt even move!!!
Sriki asked again in a tone sooo sweet...that I guess if he used it on any girl in our batch irrespective of her relationship status, his own status would have changed instantly...
But not a single muscle in the clerk's body even as much as twitched....
it was non verbal communication at it best. Basically the clerk was saying my job does not depend or, or involve giving this answer so now EFF OFF...
Somehow we managed to locate the grand wood and glass lair of Mr Fernandes located bang in the middle of the whole office floor.
We asked the peon outside hisa cubicle and he said
So we opened the door and peeped inside.
Mr Fernandes was snozzing in his chair with his head lolled backwards and his arms hanging on his side.
Had it not been for the ryhthemic expansion and contraction of his massive belly...I'd have been sure that he had kicked it.
Now Sriki has already had many trysts with the law and looked at me as if asking is it an offence under the IPC to wake up a snoozing bank manager??
I had no answer. It was one situation where Sriki could not use the most often thrown line in Mecca meetings..."Gus, don't worry..I'll Handle it"
A word about "I'll handle It". Once These three magical word were spoken by Sriki...the entire Mecca was convinced that the problem has as good as DISAPPEARED. and Sriki never let us down...
But in the office of that Bank manager...well he too was lost!!
So we came out and asked the peon to wake him up...
So he went it and dunno what he did. Maybe he spalshed a glass of water on him...
or maybe "he poked him with a pin" (Sriki u know what I mean)
Soon Mr Krishanan got up and asked...
"Ok so tell me whats the TITLE SPONSORSHIP?"
we couldnt believe our ears...
I made my whole presentation...Mr Krishnan...this event will help u in so and so way...Mr Krishnan...we will be very happy to assocaite with a bank of your repute...Mr Krishanan...My birth is now successful now that I have met you...Mr Krishnan...do u have a daughter I can marry?? I was in full flow man!!
and gradually Mr Fernandes went from title sponsorship to associate to banners to I dunno something down to 500 bucks...
Not to be outdone...we pushed for more. So he said ok I will draft a proposal and then send it to Mumbai...we have exhausted our budget for this year...but we will do get back to you!!
and thus was a lesson in marketing...People will always start big duringa negaotiation and then extract from u maxiumum what u can give them.
In sales people will ask u the rate u can give them on 500 kgs and then ask the same rate for buying 500grams...
and then while coming out we also realised that u should never trust a Guards diction.
His name was Mr CHRISTIAN FERNANDES!!
The look on Sriki's face .... well i wont even try to describe it... I acnnot handle it...
and off we went to our next adventure aboard the powder blue victor!!
Not so grand...Finale
There was a very prominent expat in Panjim, to whom we had to deliver the WIZBIZ invites.
In order to save time and creat efficiency, I held the list of invitees and one of the volunteers wrote the names of the invitees on envelopes containing the invites.
Now that day I realise the primary motive of most Wizbiz volunteers is booze...but little did I understand the fallout of doing the work under the influence of the desired prize.
There was a certain Mr D. Cox who was an honoured guest.
Once in Mr Cox's posh office in Patto, I whipped out the envelope and asked the secretary to let us into his cabin.
She allowed...but before we could enter Sriki noticed something...
and we immediately ran towards the door and the Victor as fast as Usain Bolt and then rode back to GIM faster than Valentino Rossi.
Reason...
The envelope proudly proclaimed...
To,
Mr **** Cocks,
XOXOXOXO
Panjim.
(its a true story...trust me it is)
I second all of the people above .. The Diwali celebrations were awesome .. Considering We all were away from home .. The people really did a fantastic job. None of us actually missed the celebrations of back home. RaZZmataZZ had a room decoration contest. All the people had decorated their rooms so beautifully. It was truly something that was worth not going home for.
Can you people believe it ? We are almost 10 days into November and it is still raining here .. The weather during the evenings is so soothing.. No one feels like studying at all ..
Any ways off for now .. Got to go see a table tennis match .. :D:clap:
To this date that has been my fastest ever 100m hurdles (U cant ask for more hurdles you see :))....and we ran out..but i actually remember going for our very frequent "Tea Adventures" which I am sure snape will want to write about

Be corporate leaders with a desire to change the society for the better, Padmashree awardee Anu Aga told students of the Goa Institute of Management (GIM) recently, where she was speaking at Ribandar Talks, a student driven initiative.
"One should not only look at the top or the bottom line. Everything should not be about profit," Aga, a businesswoman and social worker, said delivering a talk on 'Turnarounds'. Aga is also the driving force behind the Teach for India Foundation, which is a nationwide movement that aims to bridge the educational gap in India. And during her interaction with GIM students, she invited the students to be a part of the Teach India Foundation.
Being a corporate leader with a desire for social improvement, Aga has established the Thermax Social Initiative Foundation that looks into the community initiatives of the company with a special focus on education of underprivileged children.
Aga inspiringly spoke about the accomplishments of India in recent years. Addressing the students and very sportingly answering student queries, Aga focused on the social responsibility of the leaders of tomorrow. Education and upliftment of the underprivileged is very close to Aga's heart which she conveyed to the students of GIM and asked them to follow in her footsteps as corporate leaders with a desire for social change.
An ongoing initiative, Ribandar Talks, is a GIM club conceptualized to provide students with a forum through which they can interact with leaders both within the industry as well as in other walks of life, people who have excelled in their chosen profession or interests. Ribandar Talks is a platform for students to interact especially with Indian corporate leaders that have made a difference to the society.
Anu Aga headed the human resources division at Thermax India Ltd from 1991 to 1996 with a focus on policies that are based on innovation and experimentation. After the death of her husband in 1996, she took over as the executive chairperson of the company and managed to surpass the revenue target set for 2010 of ` 3,200 crore by the year 2007 itself. Through her leadership and vision Thermax India Ltd has also been listed on the Forbes Asia's 200 best under-a-billion companies.

Mid-terms for PGP 10-12 starts from monday...hell of a time with the kind of timetable being set for us but thats just the tip of the iceberg as submissions and presentations lined immediately after that 😛 :o
One silver lining is that finally the official GIM T-shirts for the first year has been finalised and would be provided by our generous Chairman Mr Rane. Hoping to wear the Brand GIM up close and near to heart soon :)) 😁

Exams Exams Exams !! They really do get the best in us. :banghead:. We got mid terms from monday as piyush rightly pointed out. We got 5 exams in 2 days!! So its going to be a really hard time. But we students here at GIM always do manage to get through, by hook or by crook

Pin drop silence in all hostel corridors. It really is surprising considering just yesterday the entire college was buzzing with life as the TT tournaments were on and everyone was watching and supporting their friends .. 😁
Any ways so long till then .. Got to get up and study ...

So we are back !! Mid terms finally done 😁 .. But that does not mean that we are free .. Back to classes as usual .. And submissions start piling up .. And even more submissions .. All end term presentations coming up .. Well .. At least we don't have any exams to worry about .. For a month 😛 ...
