..Looking forward to it!!New and interesting subjects to look forward to. Infusion 2013 is in Jan..and its gonna ROCK! Games, Fashion, Dance, Drama
... phewww!! January has never been better!!
The chilly cold till persists, thanks to intermittent rain-gods!!!Mid-Trimester exam of Term III has finished a week before. After that it was fun participating in sporting extravaganza at national level sporting event,Chakrvyuha'13 at IMT -G. IIM Rohtak participated in Cricket, Football, Badminton, Table Tennis and Basketball. Participation in such events really gives idea about the culture of the B schools, how they organize national level events, etc. So a new institute like IIM-R can really learn from them and try to raise a bar for next sporting event. Despite our busy schedules, we are hopeful that we will again participate in "ALTIUS - FMS Delhi, Annual Sports Festival,2013". As of now academic load is manageable 😁
Just after one month of college, mid-terms are here. Lots of extra-curricular activities going on with the exams and everyone is enjoying this. Hope the results of these exams will be comforting too. 😃
The dream of entering into the hallowed portals of IIM came true when I joined IIM Rohtak one and half month ago. After registration I was relaxed in my room enjoying the feeling of being at IIM but there were rumours in the hostel corridors that something big is coming for the next few days. Later in the night I came to know that it was not indeed rumours but true as we were bombarded with group tasks, each task with a different group, with deadlines less than an hour and up to 5 am in the morning.
The next three days passed like a second with induction going on in the college and group tasks after that. Situation was such that I even forgot my groups after being associated with so many groups simultaneously. Finally the ordeal ended but only then I came to know the importance of it. To get familiar with what our life is going to be for the next two years and also to get acquainted with the batch mates.
And that was not the end of it. The day classes started also started the selection processes of various committees. Never in my life had given so many interviews in such a short span of time, five interviews in two days. The day never seemed to end and my last interview on 2nd day started at 00:00 am and lasted for about 30 minutes.
Few days later in one of the classes of HRM I got to know the rationale behind such a rigorous curriculum. As stated by the professor “We will make your lives so miserable that when you step into the corporate world each challenge you face looks like an ant to you”.
These are the lines which I want to remember when some day I would be standing at the balcony of the 20th storey of my office and my mood is retrospection.
IIM Rohtak celebrated free Indian spirit on 67th Independence Day with a series of events. The formal celebrations commenced with the flag hoisting ceremony. Flag hoisting was followed by the Director's address.
An Independence cup was organized by the sports committee between seniors and juniors There was huge participation from both boys and girls in various events like cricket, football, basketball, tug-of-war, chess, table tennis and arm wrestling. The final result was a draw with both sides winning in four events each.
A visit to the site of 200-acre permanent campus of IIM-R, located at Sunaria near Rohtak, was also organized for students and faculty members. Life seems pretty cool and enjoyable here along with rigorous academics which is part n parcel of an IIM System.
The flight was about to land and my heart was racing. I was having butterflies in my stomach; a new chapter in my life is going to start. It all started when I converted the IIM Rohtak call. I still remember that day, a day full of mixed emotions and thoughts-Happy to get into an IIM, apprehensive about being on a temporary campus, and above all the fear of the academic rigour.
The moment finally came when I found myself entering the MD University campus. With my head sticking out of the taxi window, I was trying to spot the IIM building. Looking at the sprawling campus with world class infrastructure, my apprehensions were dropped immediately.
As I arrived a day prior to registration, I had ample time to settle down and meet the seniors. I found them very supportive and friendly; I mentally struck down my fears of being ragged. From the day of registration, the personality development programme by the seniors started. The PDP was aimed at showing the newcomers a glimpse of the hectic and rigorous life awaiting us while making sure all of us bonded over the tasks. The whole batch at the end was very thankful for this great initiative by the seniors, which helped us understand how our life at IIM Rohtak was going to be, or should I say the 'kathor' life, was going to be.
As the PDP ended and the classes started, we have now settled into the daily rhythm of life at IIM Rohtak-acads, committees, surprise quizzes, food and friends. This new chapter is turning out to be a colourful one!
IIM-R has been a game changer in my life...The awesome exposure, the pedagogy, the batch everything has added to my life greatly and I already find myself growing as a complete person and not only as a manager..Its been great and I am sure it'll only get better!! The Kathor life rocks!!😁
The IIM system started with an objective to produce leaders. Leaders who can dare to travel 'the road not taken', and carve out a new path for the world to follow. But over the years, perceptions have changed. Today, the entire country wishes to become a part of an already-established institution and pass out with humongous packages. But true leadership lies not in following, but creating new avenues. And being a part of the 4th batch here gives me the very opportunity to do it.
Life here not only gives you a flavor of the actual corporate life, but also teaches you how to excel in the same. 'Indian Institute of Management, Rohtak' is a name that is going to resonate in my ears for my entire life. It is now a part of me as much as I am a part of it. And will all the honesty, I couldn't have been more proud about it. 😃
When the flag bearers(senior batch) of IIM Rohtak prepare for final battleground of Trimester 4, torrid times ahead and maybe increase in humidity complements the exam time :). The finance enthusiasts completed a herculean task of attending 9 hrs guest lecture from a reputed bank despite busy schedules of last week projects and assignments 2 days before. Assignments with "sacrosanct deadlines" on the the day before exam have become trend here.
Life at IIM Rohtak is like a roller coaster ride, twists and turns at every corner, far too many ups and downs to count, and every moment giving us an adrenaline rush. A typical day starts with students rushing to attend lectures at 8.30 in the morning and reaching just in time before the faculty enters and the classroom doors are closed to the outside world. Class participation, projects and assignments keep us busy throughout the day. Suddenly a mail pops up saying- “there will be a quiz tomorrow”. And we know we will be up all night in group discussions or individual studying.
But, this doesn't stop us from enjoying. There are always parties and outings to go for, parties celebrating the end of exams, parties celebrating someone's victory or even defeat (to pep up the spirit), sitting in the open-listening to students playing guitars(singing along occasionally) .Just living life to the tune of 'work hard and party harder' . And despite the daily race for survival, what a glorious life it is.
After all, Tom Petty did sing-
'Gonna stand my ground, won't be turned around, I won't back down.'
India, more than any other place, is a land of HOPE. The birth of Lord Krishna, the beacon of hope and all things good, was celebrated at IIM-R with the same indomitable spirit that marks IIM-R. One thing an MBA student likes more than many other things is a challenge. And as we trudged to our hostel after classes, the view of an earthen pot hung high up in the air, the smell of soil moist with water, the silent buzz all around and the challenge beckoned us, stirring into motion the hitherto dormant need to group, climb, seize, break, and above all-rejoice. The stage was set, plans made, and all the kings men set their eyes on the coveted prize. Half the job was already done-the pot had been hung; all we had to do was go get it. Easy enough, or so it seemed.
The men looked at each other with a silent promise to catch if one falls. And as the air was rent by music, the crowd gathered. First attempt was made. Then another. And then another. And then some more. We rose, we fell; made faces, and fought. But the fallen rose again, fervent in hope, immovable in desire. And the bedrock of our motley crew, the ones at the bottom of the pyramid, with sweat in their eyes, unable to see anything but mud, stood through the falls, unyielding. The music kept playing, the crowd kept cheering and like the ant which kept climbing in spite of the falls, we kept at it with steps firm and faith unshaken.
And after several failed attempts, the air resounded to a thunderous “Jai Kanhaiya Laal ki”. And we knew we had done it. And if you ask the men who kept at it, they would concur that the smell of curd never seemed so sweet. And as we went to clean up after celebrations, tired and bruised, there was joy, there was satisfaction, a hint of pride, a feeling of divine presence, and yes, a sense of HOPE.
One of the most amazing days so far at IIM Rohtak. Janamashtmi was celebrated with full zeal and vigor. The highlight of the day was Dahi handi. After 3-4 unsuccessful attempts and nasty falls, we were finally able to break the dahi handi, much to the delight of supporters that had gathered to watch the celebration. It was an eventful and fun-filled day at IIM-R.
One of the biggest festival in India and at IIM Rohtak we left no stone unturned to have a grand celebration after all the classes and an exhausting day it was time for some fun and all thanks to the cultural committee for organizing the DAHI Handi event where we all got a chance to work together and again show the world that when u aim for a goal no matter how many times you fall in the end all that matters is the achievement of accomplishing the goal ,and we all had great falls while making the human pyramids ,we did hurt ourselves a few times but in the end we got our goals and which was made more memorable with the support that we got from our batch and the enthusiasm that was shown by everyone and from students we turned into the guwalas of Nanadnagri who had only one aim the mataki ,we all had a great fun celebrating Janamasthmi in different way and enjoying each of our falls during the course of the event .
Stage…Lights...Cheering Crowd…and a Mic! I had been on stage before, a lot of times, but this time was different. This time I was singing! I love music and I am an aspiring singer. So just like any other singer, i have always wanted to perform in front of a big crowd. Never thought I will get this opportunity here, of all the places, at an IIM! Being a part of this elite B-school led me to taking part in Deloitte Maverick - War of Bands. I teamed up with my seniors and we reached the zonal round of the competition held at IIT Delhi. It was a wonderful experience. And I hope we reach the finals so that I can feel awesome again. Fingers crossed! 😃
This new life, Life@IIMRohtak, has taught me that we are free to make a choice but not from the consequences of choices we make. So whoever desires success in life must change his conduct with the times.. Now i am a changed man. A person who never managed his time has now started doing things on time.. I was sleeping my whole life, but now I am wide awake because it takes a person who is wide awake to make his dream come true..
Teacher's day at IIM Rohtak has a different flavour to it. Never before have I seen it being celebrated by a professor playing the guitar and all the students humming to the song👍. We had a list of fun activities lined up for the faculty. It started off with a set of tongue twisters which our profs sailed through with much ease. Needless to say our Management Communication professor did the best!👏 Then we moved onto a rapid fire round where the profs tickled our funny bone. Then there was some musical chair where various strategies were played out 😁..The celebrations came to an end with the cutting of a delicious cake🎂 and the professors then had a heart to heart with us.
