The child in us!

Remember the times when we used to wait for summer vacations just to go to our Nani's (Maternal Grandma) place? Yes, at least I did. My folks stay in Kalyan, which is a bit far from where I stay in Mumbai (Ghatkopar). The excitement to reach Kalyan would start as soon as the last word was written in our final exams. I would rush home to pack my stuff and off we went that evening. Trust me, a standing ovation by a crowd can fall short in front of the welcome you receive by your nani. It feels so great when you hear. "Arre maaro babo aavi gayo" (Oh my son has arrived). Then finally when Mama (uncle) comes home, starts all the discussion about sports (mostly cricket) as we both are sports lovers. One of the many memories is thriving on the sweets made by nani ( I still do). There I come to know why my mom prepares so awesome food. It is because of the amazing training given by her amazing mom that translates into her food. Strict instructions are given to my mom about not preparing any of my favorite dishes as nani obviously is going to treat us with them everyday.

Another important female in that house is my Mami (Aunt). Again trained by nani, she is an amazing chef. I know a lot has been written about food in this post and most of you would relate to whatever is written and are getting nostalgic and water mouthed. But yes, one of the main reasons to visit kalyan and stay here was the amazing FOOOOOOOOD.

And then came a sunday when mama would be at home, and all the fun would begin. From playing cricket on the stairs,  going for taanga (horse) rides, thralling the most famous vadapav in kalyan (It still remains my favorite), playing carrom in evening and going for cycle rides, its all etched in the memory.

As I write this post, sitting on a couch at Nani's place all the memories of childhood start flashing in front of my eyes. Though we are all the same people who love being with each other and have equal, if not more fun, there is a sense of maturity now in our talks. Sports talk has been replaced by stocks talk and the 15 day long thrive on the delicacies has been shortened to a couple of days max. In spite of so many changes, the love and and affection you receive here cannot be matched.

It feels great to take out time form your busy schedule and come here and enjoy in true sense of the word. I don't know when will I come here next, but one thing is for sure, the days gone by as childhood are not going to come back. There is no other option now, but to bring out the child in you every time you come here and take back some amazing memories and the priceless love of your loved ones. Have a good day ahead and do not forget to keep smiling :D

The Voice of Love!

It was a bright Monday afternoon,

Sunny and energetic,

Busy roads, cramped buses,

Heading towards the city's biggest college fest of all time.

Fun in the air, vibrations of laughter,

Myriad emotions & the enthusiasm of teens out there filling the atmosphere.

The busyness,

The engagements,

The passion,

The longingness,

Friendship, Acquaintances, Love and Curiosity,

The fun and urge to hangout in crowds,

All seemed to be contagious.

There came running,

A thin, tall and pretty girl to accompany.

When girls are around,

You cant miss the men who follow.

More so when she is beautiful,

She would but so obviously be in the company of men,

Maybe "just friends",

Maybe protectors or

Maybe one among the million men out there.

When the rush seemed to settle,

The atmosphere seemed to calm,

There came this guy with a smile,

A smile that can light up a hundred lives.

Naughtiness in his eyes,

and a voice so loud ands heavy.

Tall, fat, brute,

yet cute,

was all that could describe him.

Handsome he was not,

But charming sure he was.

'Quiet' was a word he didn't know,

Dullness didn't exist in his world.

His eyes and smile spoke a million things more than what his words did.

Attraction was not what anyone would feel at first place,

But comfort sure he gave for all those he knew.

A few hours were enough to feel like he's been along for years

Building friendship was no strain,

His presence was never a pain.

Bonding with someone;

was never so intense,

never so significant,

nor was it ever so different.

Eighteen years of journey,

didn't seem so meaningful ever before.

Happiness, love, selflessness, concern and possession,

were all words that got a complete new dimension there on.

Very few people touch lives in a way that makes people love their ownselves.

It is rare,

When love gets so empowering.

Indeed that was the best phase of life,

With no memories faded,,

Even with years passing by......

A short story by an ITM student on the Life @ Hostel.

HOME AWAY FROM HOME

ANXIETY- this is the perfect feeling one can have just before starting anything new. "Hostel Life" is one such thing , the mere thought of which makes you anxious. It's not easy to leave behind your parents, your own house, relatives,friends-and the list goes on. This is the phase when a total transformation happens to ourselves,as aperson, as a human being. The word "LIFE" is synonymous to "ADJUSTMENT" and we get to learn that when we enter this phase of our life- the hostel life.

When we hear about the word "HOSTEL",it seems to petrify students. The ITM HOSTEL , though similar to all the other hostels, at the same time can be differentiated from others in many ways. There are strict rules out here, but at the same time it doesn't hamper our fun. Even though students are allowed to go out and have fun but protection & safety for students are the main concern for the hostel authority. There are time limits specified both for boys and girls to enter the hostel premises at night. Proper parental concern is required if a student wants to take a leave. Apart from this, the hostel has 24*7 internet facility which helps the students to do their assignments on time. Now coming too the main part which every student wanna know-the food part. It starts with the breakfast, then lunch, followed by high-tea in the evening and dinner at night. ITM Hostel is synonymous to comfort to the students. All the regular amenities are there along with games like carrom, table tennis, badminton etc for leisure for the students. The gymnasium is also very much popular among the students with specilised equipments. The ITM hostel gives the feel of  a home away from home. Students get a new family away from the ones at home. The environment in the hostel makes the students forget that they are actually away from thei actual home. Thus is the facet that makes ITM HOSTEL different from all other hostels.

What Goes Around, Comes Back Around (Episode - 1)

Its in a very delighted mood in sometime now that i write this piece of my mind. When you throw a ball on the wall, it comes back to you, and with the same force that you threw it. You throw the ball slowly it comes back slow, and you throw it hard it comes back to you harder still. As you sow, so do you reap. These are simple truths about life that we have been hearing since ages. But have we ever realised this whole new dimension about the Law of Reciprocity, i.e., What goes around, comes around. It normally means the more good you do the more good you get back. A deeper insight into this would astonish everyone on what it really is all about. When we tend to loose something very precious, be it money or an object or even a person, we tend to get really upset, and stop looking beyond. But has anyone of us ever understood that every loss in our life has always been replaced with something better or it might not be a permanent one. We are all too preoccupied with our worries that we don't look that deep. Its all about what we hold in our inventory of deeds. The amount of good that we hold in our baggage of deeds plays a vital role...

People are phenomenon and not just a celebrity (Journey 1)

A midst the billions and billions of people who occupy this blue-green planet, there are a few who are heard about, there are a few others who make heads turn, but there are barely a handful, by choice or by chance, who have mastered the art of making heads turn towards them and not turn back again. For a few of us it might seem like sheer lady-luck shining upon them, for a few others it is the path destined for them, and for yet a few others it is what they call "being at the right time at the right place". Kindness personified are a few who bother to give a minor credit to the person or people being spoken about. Nonetheless the fact that they stand apart from the crowd, and elevated and tall that too for reasons of their own remain in actuality. When you do what others do but with a little finesse, there is a "feel good" factor that encircles you, when you get recognition for the same your toes raise a little above the ground and you feel how a bird feels like. Caught in the web of praises, appreciation, identity and recognition, a few from here try to reach a higher altitude, they try to push themselves harder to bask in the glory of being on top of the world. There are a few others not just caught in this web, but "trapped" right here not even wanting to elevate themselves. Their sense of satisfaction of their ego, and selfdom, the contentment that fame and glory brings is accompanied by clouds of "lack of thought and vision". The filtering starts right here. Shifting focus to the ones climbing up the ladder, the higher they climb, pressures of sustenance of level, pushing the rest and moving forward at a mad pace, lack of contentment not because they have not met their personalized goals but because out there, there has been someone who has triggered the temptations of setting a different goal and changing directions. Blessed are those who don't get allured by this deception...

People are phenomenon and not just a celebrity (Journey 2)

Apparently when this particular stage is crossed they reach what they feel is "ultimate". A sense of accomplishment arrives, but ask them to turn back at what they have been through and that is something that they wouldn't want to recollect. What they cherish are the superficial elements like the status and position what they possess, but not the journey they have been through. Apparently they tend to loose out on the smaller realities of life. But, much to everyone's amazement phenomenal people do not take this entire detour. They are people who keep themselves happy by doing things they love doing and they keep satisfying their smaller yearnings then and there. To be more precise they satisfy their hunger for doing things they love and quench their thirst for doing something interesting and contributing something better towards what they do and love. They are driven by the love of doing a certain thing and not lost in the vanities of what it gives them back. They are definitely not people without aims. They are neither people who don't dream big nor are they people who lack ambition. They are people with big dreams and vision, but they manage to live in the present and fight it out with the challenges that come "now" and not ride on the returns that they would get "later". Their journey is filled with love and passion for what they do and not by the pride of reaching targets. It may sound cliche, but in reality it is the journey that matters the most to them and not the destination. With this kind of a mindset they end up being their own competitors and everytime, they have a newer level to reach. Competition from the rest of the world is a mere judgemental parameter to gauge where they stand and not the driving force in pushing them forward. It is the competition that they have with their ownselves that pushes them forward. They do not have to wait for others to set goals for them. But they have their own plan of action and targets of their own to reach anytime and everytime. Toiling and striving brings them immense joy and not pressure and fear.

What Goes Around, Comes Back Around (Episode - 2)

When we tend to loose something, it apparently happens to be someone's gain. Nature always holds on to its Law of Balance so as to maintain harmony. With this law there can be no person who can stay risen for very long or there can be none who stays in an ebb for long. It is much like the flow of energy, when a certain thing disappears at a certain place at a certain magnitude, it reappears somewhere else in some other form. There is nothing that we create or destroy here. Apparently over a period of time the thing that we have lost would take its own course and finally end up with us. But how sooner or how later we draw things that we want towards us all depends on how much of good or rather positivity we hold in our treasury. The more positivity we possess the sooner we draw positivity and replace our losses. In the end we all get what we want. Its all about how strongly we want it. Finally only two things happen we either channelize and transform our priorities into something else and get what we desire then, or even after a considerable amount of time if our priorities haven't changed and we have the same standpoint that we had before, the things that we thought we had lost before, by then would have completed its course of journey and would land back into our hands safe and sound, but this time bringing along the gift of maturity with it for us.

People are phenomenon and not just a celebrity (Journey 3)

...Eventually with every hard moment turning out to be enjoyable, they are either too busy focusing on how to overcome barriers that exist right there and trying to push themselves forward or they are occupied with enjoying what they are doing. They neither have the required time to focus on which step of the ladder they are on nor do they spend their energy on thinking about how fast they can reach the top because the present is keeping them much more occupied. When they do anything with a free mind and with their heart and soul completely into it and most importantly, no strings attached, elevation to the next level automatically happens and much to their advantage it happens without a sense of struggle and without any heartbreaks and compromises. The joy of what they do reflects in their works and at this sort of a juncture a various other factors like what largely people call "destined to be there", "fortune", or any X, Y, Z factor come into play. These are the people who actually don't have an end to their aspirations and keep pushing every barrier harder and don't leave any stones unturned. They gather experiences and multiply their joy at every step. Turning back and looking at the footpaths that they have walked through is the best happiness that they could ever get. In this entire world there cannot be anything more extraordinary than the fact that nothing affects a particular person, be it success or failure, hardship or ease or "a state of to be or not to be". When a person stays grounded by feet and keeps his head high no matter what the situation is, when he doesn't fall prey to circumstances and scenarios around, it can rightfully be called "the birth of a phenomenon".

Sonnet from a Spirit

A new beginning, a bright new start.

Along with some unknown faces which will mold our parts.

The journey starts with many ifs and buts.

Many sorrows and many future cuts.

The heart gets heavy while leaving home.

To face the new chapter of our future home.

We enter the premises with many expectations.

Some gets fulfilled and some remains just a past relation.

As the time pass many hands come and joins us.

Some for lifetime, but some just to teach us.

Slowly we open up new worlds of life.

Where we come out of our fantasy and face the real life.

At the end of this journey it will.

Leave many memories, it will.

The memories will again make us cry.

While leaving, thinking this will make our lives dry.

Without the friendly hands with us

without the cheerful and supporting smiles with us

All the ups and downs in this journey only benefits us.

Either they give us good friends or leave good lessons for us.

Slowly the new place becomes very familiar.

And without out knowledge becomes somewhat similar.

To the place which we left to start a new life.

We find our second home in our hostel life.

The Underdog (Episode One)

There are not many things you can be proud of. Everything is tinged with a hint of sorrow loads of drama and big chunks of joy but then there are a few occasions which can make you go all warm and fuzzy. Situations that make you think you're a 200 pound, 6 feet tall macho man when in reality your just 5'7 and pushing the obesity envelope through a whole new door but why is that so and why should you put up with it.

Break it down and see. Everybody feels like an underdog. Even the big successful people who grew up with silver spoons and ivory houses as well as the plain clothed simpleton who drives a second hand Maruti to and fro from his workplace which is not exactly located at the address they wanted to be printing on their contact card. That is for a simple reason...

Few Things Left Unwrapped

Life was when I called your name,

A sigh of relief amidst all blame.

You, my angel, to hold me tight,

When days went against with unslept night.

Life was when I rose from vain,

A leap of joy from unleashed pain.

Life was when I met my school,

My primary teacher and her wooden stool.

Life was when the alphabets danced,

On a wall called black-board for hours in glance.

Life was when dad made me write,

He made it sure i spelt them right.

Life was when I met my sister,

Once in a year I cuddled with laughter.

Life was also when i saw mom crying,

Hidden beneath a smile that fought cruel vying.

Odds were everything that's right for others,

A custom of patience, mom won with colours.

Life was when I had fallen in love,

Life was moment I lived all trough.

Life was when the stream ran blue

Life was when I loved you true.

Life was when I ran through the crowd,

Rustles around but my silence aloud.

Life was when your hours were mine,

Life was best with showers at night.

Life was when the last bell rang,

Pages torn with rhymes unsang.

Missing the train to catch that glimpse,

A spark in miles with rest unseen.

Yes I lived a life I had,

A life worth living with people unmatched.

The Underdog (Episode Two)

...Every underdog has three phases. The loser, the confused soul and the winner and every human at some point of time is in such a situation and if you look at it in another light an underdog is another name for the feelings that you go through every day. The moment of anxiety before you accept the responsibility, the feeling of absolute horror at watching your plans get shot in between their eyes or the sheer jubilation of being able to get up in a room full of naysayers and look each of them in the eye and silence them without uttering a single syllable. Your workplace janitor is an underdog and even your boss is an underdog.

At this point some of you might realize if you bothered to read properly that the first paragraph has no link to the next two. That is because a single factor remains unaccounted for your support system. That one thing that keeps you ticking over it could be a motivational speech, a phrase, a tattoo, a person, a horrific incident or a simple display of emotion, but everyone needs that something...

Sales ....with an insight to happiness (Part 1)

Today sales can no more be limited to a process of exchange of goods and services with money. Sales, the topmost line of an organisation starts from the inception of the organisation. Think when the proprietor decided to start his business. He had to sell his idea to investors in order to garner capital.

Sales are growing as a career choice. While most people join sales as their domain, some join because they had nothing better to do at similar salary. However, any job you land up, you have to be good at sales. Sales starts from the day you apply for the job.

By sending your resume, you try to sell your qualifications to the need of the company.

Even till the last day before retirement you have to sell your ideas to your clients/organisations.

During sales, there will be days of rejection. Everyone must not have common requirement and understanding. As a sales-person you need to be persistent.

Even if a customer/client rejects your product/service/idea, as a sales-person you need to keep in mind that he/she is still your probable prospect for a later time. Your behaviour is something that will stay with the customer and if he/she accounts you for a good experience, you will be ahead of your competitors when he/she is willing to buy next time.

At every step your customer should feel some value added to your service. Sales is not all about numbers and turn overs. As a sales-person, you should make those few minutes of interaction to the customer worthy. So that you, as a representative of your organisation stay in his/her mind. Here a sales person acts as a brand symbol in the mind of the customer...

The Underdog (Episode Three)

...Tear down anything great and you will observe that it is very ordinary because that is the truth. Remove all the layers and what you are left with is something that makes you go wait, even i could have done that but you forget it comes down to the setting. The World Cup victory would have been another nick in a long scale of nicks that mark the Indian team's capabilities but because every Indian fan or follower assigned a certain emotional value to it that night shall always be the day when a spaceman did not need to guess which part of the world he was looking at. This goes without exception and can be seen in every facet.

So i guess what I am trying to say is that without your emotions your nothing and that you need to believe in the underdog inside you because the day you do not is the day you become satiated. You become the person who can put up with shit. The homo sapiens without a say in their own life and no one wants that now do they? So be the first man through the wall because you may be loose a few teeth but no one can take away from you the fact that you did what no one else wanted to do before everyone else decided to do it anyway.

-By Vijay Vedula (A Friend).

Sales ....with an insight to happiness (Part 2)

...Emotional connection is a tool to satisfy your customer faster than competitors. Sales are not only about how effective you are at communicating value to your prospect. It is also important to take his/her feedback at right time. The feedback will always decide what you should speak next. Sales are the revenue generation activity of any sector and thus are the deciding factor of the fate of an organisation.

People have many perceptions about sales. Some are true with some being myths. Let us have a closer view to them. Most common perceptions about sales-

. In sales it's a very common concept that the sales person has to speak a lot. It's a myth. In sales you need to understand your customer and speak accordingly.

. Everybody cannot be your target prospect. A sales person needs to learn how he can spot on a probable customer and turn his interest into greater perceived value.

. A good product is bound to be sold. This is another myth. A good product is not enough to get sold. There have been many good products technically but were unable to reach customer's mind. Along with the product, the other three Ps of marketing mix have to be good enough. Data shows, 39% indians go for a product with the image of the sales personnel than the features of a product (21%) or its price (18%).

. Price or offerings are not the only way to overtake the competitor. When the customer knows your offer has the same features as the competition, equal quality standards, and even similar price, the added value the salesperson brings to the table is the only differentiation.

. There is no replacement to hard work. People have a myth that sales is all about smart work of the sales-person. However, sales are a process of persistence and perseverance.

. Happiness comes only when you meet your target. This is another myth in sales. If you concentrate more on value addition than revenue addition, your sales would automatically increase.

. We see happiness as a function of reality to our expectations. To put it mathematically,

                     Happiness = (reality) / (expectation)...

Sales ....with an insight to happiness (Part 3)

...We always feel, if we can make our realities better, our happiness would increase. And we run after getting happiness. Here we forget the other side of the coin. If we start the process from being happier, our reality would get better as well.

In any organisation, success is a holistic approach. Generating more revenues is of no value if you cannot make your stake holders satisfy.

In sales, aggression should be used on positive note. Sales are a field of glamour and excitement. If you are persistently aggressive in following your prospect, success is bound to be yours.

Sales are not only about hard work. It's a dynamic and exciting field.

Sales are known to be tedious, on the field job. But sales are the base of market research. The most spontaneous response of a customer comes out during purchase. If you are able to decode his/her mind-set before, during or post purchase, you will get ahead of your competitors in value addition to the customer.

Sales are an inborn talent in every one of us. Right from the day we took birth, we are formulating strategies to sell. The first thing a child does after birth, is crying so that he/she is placed in a warm, secured place. He/she urges for security that he/she had been receiving in mother's womb. Next he/she cries for food, to satisfy his/her hunger.

These strategies are formulated to sell various kinds of needs at various points of life.

All these strategies are formulated to sell various kinds of needs at various points of life.
