The laptops cost over 50k if v buy it from college....
But some laptops are available for lesser prices also, with a little less config as the 50k ones..
Can the college provide us options to buy lesser price laptops when companies visit the campus.....I am happy with 40gb hard disk than a 80 gb 1..
Also what is the minimum pool size required to order laptops...coz every person will want a diff brand...i guess there is a min pool size to order the same from the college.
I am only keen on onsite facility provided by the laptop companies, not a great config to some extent
Also can we have individuals posting there status after selection, just to get acquainted till v meet in college.

I'm one of the student who has joined SDM 2007-09, As per the information i have received from seniors, the laptops are ordered after our classes start , may be the process would be initiated during the first week of our college & then by the 2nd or the 3rd week of june, we would be getting them if we place an order.... it would be better if one buy's thro college.. as we would get an extended warranty and good price discount.. People can buy their own configuration.. & most of the students last year opted for an identical configuration.....
different packages can be supplied & quotations are given to you for the same....it is for u to decide...
Also, i have seen your earlier quiries...... I've been working since 20months.... in a Mech. Company.... and i feel that there is no distinction between Freshers & exp. guys in SDM ,,, everybody is treated equally.. what is important there would be the sharing of views & thoughts between students..........So, no worries regarding the point that, u don't have Work exp...
I have quite a few of my classmates, who had joined INFY thro campus placements... they are still not been put to any serious projects ( after 2years )... they r still playing as a 12th man in the team ( like one in cricket)...... nothin much to say, that they have learnt..... so i feel it is better... you make a move towards studies...... have no regrets... put in your best efforts during your stay of 2 years in SDM.. annnn make the most of it..... I have gone thro' some real testing when i was working.. to juggle with the CAT classes,exams and work...... SDM is a decent college... may be i would rate it within top 15 in India... & the reason why i joined it against many other colleges is that it is run by Dharmastala trust.. where quality is the ultimate priority....... i felt, this was an important thing for my career more than anything else......

Myself got selected in the first list.......... u can call me Srini....i can be reached at 9845610007... right now in Bangalore.. still working for my company..... i would be relieved from my company on 1st June..... for the next 2-months, i'll search for a second handle Laptop.... may be if i dont get a good offer, i will buy the laptop thro' college....
Yes people are allowed to buy any confirguration thro college...normally there are 2-3 vendors, whom the college shortlist... later we get quotations for the configurations, that we select.. once everything is fine we can place the order for the said confiuration...... My idea is that i would get my P.C. (which i bought a few months ago - a very good config'tion) and a basic model of Laptop..... any way, very few may retain it after the course.....since companies would provide them later...
ANyways stay in touch untill we meet in June.......

I too got selected in SDM nad have paid my visit. During myvisit to the college to pay my fees, I had asked the admisnistration regarding the laptop. I was told that they will be calling some of the sellers to the college who will give us a detailed presentation on 2-3 models of laptops. As there will be a bulk purchase, the prices will be cheaper than the market price. Also, if I am not wrong Ms. Surabhi Sharma had written in one of her posts that the laptops that they purchased were 12k lesser than the market price.
I dont have a laptop of my own and also plan to buy ne soon. but yet to decide, if I will be buying it from Delhi or from the college.

Dont think that laptops will be priced very less than market price.This is a misconception.It may be true for acer/wipro laptops but not for Dell,HP which normally our guys prefer ..Infact I feel that 53k was above market price for our Dell laptops.Our laptops were out of the market,when we bought them.
In terms of service quality we are getting the best,NBD service.So i feel that we paid rs.3000 extra for the prompt service.This will not be the case if u opt for acer/wipro laptops w...here u will get price reductions of 15-20%.

Nice to c action at this thread that to it has reached in his advanced stage where people are discussing life to bein SDM.
Guys i have seen discussion regrarding RANKINGS and its shadow on SDM. according to me rankings are purely based on relative basis for ex. MICA and SIIB are specilised programme intititute and students not having interst in media or International businees pay least attention to it even if they score good enough percentyl to get selecten in this college

Also if u see we cant compare 1 yr EX prog with 2yr full time AICTE recognised programme example GLIM,considering it a very good rising college SDM still has mix of freshers and work ex pple whereas GLIM have work ex pple only, studying.College like IRMA,XIME,TISS have their own pros and cons.so dont compare with them also .what i feel instead of discussing Rankings we can talk abt placements which ultimately will matter in any college u join.i have seen pple getting selected in same companies post MBA even if they studied from different colleges,end of the road we gonna work with best of minds in industry which i feel is important. Rankings are for personal satisfaction and manipulation whether for colleges or students so why we waste time and money(a factor of time) over it .

I've directly heard from the seniors of ( 2002 passouts, 2004 & at last 2007 ones) SDM, every person i meet have given a good opinion about the college...... that may be sufficient.... to believe it, I also visited the campus & met the present bunch of students ..... could make a judgement that it is not an ordinary institution...One question here is Why should the students Market the college?. If you ask me about my degree college i would advice any junior not join it.. becos i've been thro the limitations of it..........
Also i dont believe in rankings... not only Indian college rankings, but also world ranking of B-Schools......
Indian Ranking ones: U can find Alliance & Christ in Bangalore which is at top 20, which i dont find any worthier than SDM. Just an advantage that they are in Bangalore........
World rankings: IIM , Ahmedabad is at 80-90 odd position... is it not better than most of the colleges in Asia (such as those in Singapore , Dubai, China etc.), I believe there is something else that would lead to those rankings...... SO never believe in those .... that is just a relative position & that doesnt mean that the slightly lower ranked colleges are bad.........
One point i would convey to everyone who have taken admission... is that the future, the name of the college & its Brand value is at the hands of WE- Students..... I have worked with Many Management Trainees in my present company..... people really struggle when they are put to practical working environments...........
Once we make the admission lets Work together..... to get the college more popular each year...... through our developments......
Need experience! many are around...... Need fresheness !.... well quite a few of graduates would join fresh from college..... It is the blend that is needed.. for our development..........
The way the market is booming ... i believe most of our graduates don't need to search jobs.... they can get one at one click of a but'n.........

Mr Vinod Madhavan told us in the presentation that the industry knows the college.there is no need to market it to them. but the students and general public r still unaware of it.
i dont see any prob in it, i guess the coll wil gain the brand name among the masses eventually.
Abt Alliance and christ, the masses kno is much better. The placemtns in Allianc was awesome this year, the highest was 9.5 domestic sal by tata motors.
but on a long run, what the college makes adds more value than where the college places u in a company, and SDM is good in placements also.
lets hope to make a differece in all fronts in the years to come : ....

SDM -- Sri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara. This is the trust that runs the college. Not only this management college in Mysore, it has a engineering college Dharwad and other educational institutions.
IMD -- Institute of Mangament Devlopment. Is the name of the management college in Mysore.
I hope now you are clear about what SDM-IMD stands for. And I'm sure that you will be hearing more about the college in the coming years.
