SIES Society&Shanmukhananda; Sabha, SION hosted an event Yesterday to honour 25 unsung heroes who showed tremendous courag&character; in saving valuable lives in the Terror attack of 26/11..
My few cents.....
Yesterday's event could be termed as" The Last of the Mohicans"... May be it was Anmol & Me Compering an event for the last time reprsenting SIESCOMS...:).. Atleast i'll spk 4 myself....
The biggest and the grandest in the last 2 years .. Crowd of 1000. The State Governor sitting 4 meters across... and wat betr occassion that Saluting some of the most common-uncommon people who braved many a thing to save lives.Men&Women; of the moment were felicitated in a 2 hr long event that got the whole 1000 odd strong crowd on a standing ovation pedestal ...
For Once, there was no nervousness facing this crowd... it seemed like equals... ppl with same expressions, same sorrows, same emotions..
And as Anmol whispered to me in the end:" Santa, we have just become a small part of history"... That line , the night, the glitz, those heroes , their families, the look in their eyes, The aura of unity in that hall, Mr Shankar & The Governor's strong yet inspiring talk... all this will stay with me .Its still not died down that me and Anmol pulled this through...
Guyzz.>Would have been happy if a lot of u had turned up..Nothin inpsires that having your own people cumin to support u!!..Please give your mates ur support going forward..Nothing bigger than that...Makes a Solid Difference...
I am sure Anmol will agree to most of what i have posted..:)
Cheers
Santosh
Santa described it the best...
I think I'll just say one thing..when i saw these felicitation ceremonies on TV i used to feel its all glam n all....but when u r on the organizing end...u know the real intention n how much of a difference it makes to the families of those who got the award....
I'll just quote the irst hand experience..
Mr.Zende who was the railway announcer @ CST who asked the commuters to move away from scene of action...when i announced his name...and looked up...the audience just waved an ocean of claps...man...n when he walked up the stage toward the Governor, he glanced at me...and just smiled...
it was a moment possibly he never thought he'll witness 10 days back..
Same with Chotu the Chai wala @ CST who helped transporting the injured to St.George...I'm sure most of us have had tea @ his stall...but never really bothered to look at him n say thanks...he came on the stage n while walking away...a tear rolled on the lad's cheek....thats nostalgic more than anything!!!
Man...I think after the event we had with Dr.Kalam, this is another chapter of nostalgia that I've witnessed....Thanks SIESCOMS...I could have never dreamt of this without you !!!!
And Santa...I never realised y i said that...but yaa....in a small way we were a part of history!!!!
CHEERZ!!!

It feels an immense sense of contentment to know that SIESCOMS honoured the much deserving spirit shown by such unsung heroes who emerged from the debris of Mumbai terror attack on the horrifying night of Nov 26.
A big salute to the fire brigade men,the hotel staff, the naval commandos and every other common man who showed a big heart trying to shield the terror attack on civilians n yes congo Anmol and Santosh for being part of this proud moment and a memorable history for SIESCOMS.:)
The health risks of smoking are clear...
Passive smoking does carry risks...
Many leading medical and scientific organizations recognize second hand smoke as a cause of a range of life-threatening conditions...
WHEN you know it is WRONG.
WHEN you know that it AFFECTS you..
WHY DO U INHALE the ill-effects of other people's smoking???
SPEAK UP. SPEAK NOW !
SIESCOMS launches PRATIGYA - a campaign designed to support the ban imposed by the Government of Maharashtra as on October 2, 2008 on smoking in public zones.
There are a number of advantages gained by banning smoking in public places.
* Governmental agencies will be able to deal effectively with air pollution and health
* It will help countries to earn money from the fines levied on people who smoke
* The process will help to reduce smoking related diseases and deaths which are a threat to those who smoke
* It will promote clean air and a sense of good health among people
Don't we all want this? Should not we care for our own FUTURE?
A ban on smoking in public places will create awareness among citizens about their rights and the proper use of their freedom. It will also help them identify the serious health hazards smoking can cause.
Going forward, the ministry requires adequate backing from every individual and with this event; SIESCOMS intends to provide its wholehearted support for the initiative. The ideology aims to create awareness amongst the masses about the ill effects of smoking in public places and its impact on society at large.
PRATIGYA will initiate a city-wide awareness campaign on the ill effects of smoking in public places. SIESCOMS invites you to render your support for this noble cause.
The campaign has received a jump start in its initial phase. The State Health Ministry has appreciated this initiative and has extended its worthy support to the cause. The campaign will have participants from SIESCOMS and other colleges, the corporate houses and the public at large.
The event aims to create a mass consciousness keeping in line with SIESCOMS commitment towards the society. PRATIGYA, a one of its kind endeavor will epitomise the values and culture that SIESCOMS instills in its students.

So the stage is all set to this wonderful celebration which gives immense satisfaction to contribute positively to the society and to give back in every small way that WE can:happy:
December 18,2008-the day wen we at SIESCOMS wer exposed to the world of foreign exchange by who else but R N Vadivelu, CEO of Fedai..
From the history of forex regulation dating back to 1947,the yr of incorporation of FERA(Foreign Exchange Regulation Act) to reincorporation in the yr 1973 to the formation of FERAmendmentA in 1993 to the concepts of merchant transactions and banking transactions,it was an overall exposure that gave an hands on learning to all of us.
n yes i guess no one wuld ever forget Derivatives from the example of milk as a commodity...
Thanks SIESCOMS and looking fwd to many more such interactive learning sessions
Wow!!!!
What a session .... Saturdays at SIESCOMS has alwayzz had interesting events ..Today was just another superr fun filled yet fulfilling day .. First we had Prerna- our Annual NGO exhibition&Fest; ... I'll allow The PG1's to talk about it ... They did it amazingly ...
Thr's another feather in the cap for them... The concept was called- "Chai with Alumni"- 15-20 of our ALumni descended on the campus and held informal sessions with both PG&MMS; 1&2. from project heads @ IBM 2 Consultants at SAP to Alumni's from diverse sectors enjoyed their re-union with their Alma Mater..and who cud gain from their perspectives than us .A thoroughly engrossing Q&A; and talk session ended in Cake cutting ceremony + One-On-One chats ....

Looking fwd to the much awaited Pratigya-a SIESCOMS intiative.Kick startin with street plays on dis saturday ie.27th Dec...
Pratigya,a pledge,is a campaign initiated by SIESCOMS,to realize the Governments ban on smoking in public places.Let us all stand up to this cause n support PRATIGYA to make it a grand success too...
Well that wuld prove true to we SIESCOMites as we got trained with the Accounting standards and not many of us knew abt AS-31 which is for presenting financial instruments as liabilities or equity and related principles of interest, dividends, losses and gains.
It was quite an enlightening session by our endearing director Dr.Sengupta Sir,who left no stone unturned to expose us to the world of accounting terms and accounting standards.Thru the interaction it became evident that the ICAI(Institute of Chartered Accountants of India) council in October last year approved AS-30 and the most recent being issuance of an auditing standard that will help enterprises to assess the fair value estimates of financial transactions like derivatives with greater clarity.:gunsmilie:As they say,Knowledge is power....,yaa it does hold true...
Winding up learning as the year winds up???not really!:lookround:
Its truely been a great year for all of us SIESCOMites:oha:and as they say,"Learning is great when you become fully engrossed".
It all strted on the 7th of July 2008,a three day inducted and We,the batch of 2008-10 were : into SIESCOMS family with open arms.Things strtd to roll out one by one.Formation of various committees to look after the multi-dimentional B-school life. What followed was the every day excitement of college life which includes attending all the lectures and gaining insights from the finest of faculties outa here and also formation of grups for team projects and who can forget the OB-experiential learning visit and the fun it brought in playing various management games which coupled with the lessons it taught us.
SIESCOMites getting into habbit of winning events in other B-schools also became a prominent news in our day to day life.Three cheers to all those who brought glories to the institute. The end of the festival season like Diwali marked the beginning of SEM1 exams for us.It was crazy and amusing for all of us to run for notes from all sources and gain max inputs across all the areas.Heyyyyy a must mention is the spirit of all of us to share every reading material and every pool of thought to crack the exams in best possible way.A big thumps up for all of us for our spirit!:new_multi:
What followed was our own baby that We all are proud of,PRERNA and PRATIGYA.Prerna was a huge success and Pratigya has had an incredible start and its getting BIG day by day.
Its just an end to the beginning.Next yr SIESCOMS gonna  more for sure!
