Corporate governance is one of the most talked about topics in business, indeed in SIESCOMS on the 22nd January 2009.
Going by the defination,Corporate Governance is the general set of customs, regulations, habits, and laws that determine to what end a firm should be run. The key issues in Corporate Governance that came out as regards to business social and environmental impacts and opportunities are.. How do leading thinkers perceive the issue? What is the current state of practice on MBA campuses? What teaching resources are available to business school faculty?
However, the question is, what defines goodcorporate governance?... Considering that issues of executive compensation, financial scandals, and shareholder activism are all tied up????
SIES College of Management Studies (SIESCOMS) Presents PANEL DISCUSSION ON CURRENT DOWNTURN AND MANAGEMENT EDUCATION AS A CAREER OPTION Background: The Indian economic & financial scenario is currently under a deep strain. Almost all the sectors are in a phase of economic and production / services downturn. Consequently the job market is also slackening. As productivity and strategic cost management become norm of the day, demand for fresh talent has considerably slowed down. In some of developed markets particularly in USA there is an inverse relationship between slack in job market opportunities and demand for b-school entrants. This happens as more people want to get equipped with competencies needed to manage corporate world in a difficult scenario. Whether this is true for Indian situation is yet to be proved though there are arguments on both sides i.e. whether to go in or not to go in for management education in a difficult economic scenario like the current one. However, the fact is obvious: competencies needed in situation like this are considerably different than those under normal circumstances. Objectives: Under the above scenario, this panel discussion attempts to address some of the issues that are hovering in minds of the potential entrants for management education either those who are employed or who are just writing final year examination. The discussion attempts to answer some of the following issues: How to look at career and career options in such a difficult juncture of economy? What are the core competencies needed in such a situation to be successful at work? What are the important criteria one should look at before opting for management education? Facilitators: a. Panelists: 1. Mr. M N Gopinath, Chairman, Loyalty Solutions & Research Ltd. and Director, Bank of India 2. Prof R S S Mani, Management Educator & Career Counselor 3. Mr. Patrick Dsouza, Partner, ***** Academy b. Moderator: Dr A K Sen Gupta, Director, SIES College of Management Studies Venue: SIES College of Arts, Science & Commerce, near Jain Society, next to Gurukripa Hotel, Sion(W), Mumbai 400 022
Date & Timing: 8th February, Sunday, 6 pm to 8 pm
