Life@ XLRI Jamshedpur

Two consecutive night outs :sleepy:

One...to complete a submission

The second... just chilling out Almost the entire class was up  to sit sround, chit-chat, and do nothing...till almost 4 in the morning.

Earlier in the day, our class walked away with a lot of prizes for various sports activities. I was a member of the tug-of-war team.

and now we have 2 days of holidays..... yipeee !!!!
even BM ppl were up to prepare fr Accounting quiz... which did nt happen....
the earlier night fr a Marketing PPT.....
Hoping to catch up on my sleep in these 2 days....
bt holidays in XL arent exactly holidays.....
There is something or the other always happening on Campus.....

PS:- The prizes for the sports were boxes of chocolates.....
So the entire batch had their mouth full....
And for the record , BM won more than PMIR.....

err... in typical B-school terms, 4 a.m. does not constitute a nite-out! in that sense, i and many many more have been having continous "nite-outs"

They shall learn soon what a night out really means

Long time since I posted So a quick update :D
Back from summers it feels good to be on campus and settling back into the routine. Of course waking up for the 8:30 am class is still the biggest challenge. Something that I have been failing to do on a regular basis.

Apart from that with the juniors on campus, it is time for us to don the role of gyaani seniors

Up until now its been
12600 Hourse, 420 Classes (Ok.... I didnt really attend all of them ), 21 Subjects, 1 year and a new experience every day Thats XL

m so happy to see us all discussing online too abt happy times ending...;),.offline toh hostel corridor mein yehi bakte rehte hain...
but then there's much more 'happiness' in store...the trek, the adv trips, the committee events and so much more....and talking of quizzes, we have a hat-trick of sorts..1 done today, 1 tomorw and 1 on monday...gud that we r finishin off 3 pretty fast (see, i have learnt to see the bright side of life)...

talking of happenings, the finally, the CRs have been chosen...so if we have tons of frustration to vent out, we atleast know 2 ppl who r ready to be bali ka bakra/bakri....on a serios note, congrats to all u guys, u deserve it !!

nd yeah, seniors, u r awesome man....being with us for 2 hrs evrytime to solve our acads issues (despite so many quizzes that u have the next day) is splendid..XL culture speaks for itself...

Agree with you there, Seshadri... the fun never seems to end at XL. I'm confident it'll continue for the next 2 years.

I'm disappointed at not being elected CR, and losing out by a narrow margin, but happy that I now have a shot at being a six-pointer. SAC ya PlaceComm mein mere liye padhai aur bhi mushkil hoti.

And yeah...just read an article in HT.... XLRI is negotiating with some top US universities for exchange programs. One of the universities is Case Western, Cleveland. Way to go!!!!

Though you were not elected still you are a part of us and your role does not ends since position is not there 😉 is that ok Sumit ...

I hope the Exchange program negotiation turns fruitful..;)

Absolutely true, Hariharan. 😃 I'll do all that I can, to contribute meaningfully to the batch.

P.S. I am assuming that my PJs are also meaningful.

Two tests Over...

One part says... yeee it's over
other says...:death: Hope it doesn't result into this...

Aaj MAXI ka interview hai... MAXI here I come...

All the best everyone, may you get into committees of your choice. Since the students' council gave me the boot, I am now trying to woo SAPPHIRE, ISEP, and DRACULA.

I'd love you to want me

lage raho uncle! there is no stopping you!!
we had a flash outing today... half the batch went out for lunch out of a whim... it was fun though i didn't get to eat non-veg (thanks 2 Bhavya!) but it was still lot of fun. Hong kong 's a nice place 😉

I was writing to my mom, the travails of life at a b-school...here they go....

7.45 am - Roomie shakes me awake....I open one eye, then the other...then close both, and fall back on the bed.
7.50 am - I jump out of bed, and run to the washroom to freshen up.
8.00 am - There's a long queue outside the shower cubicles, and somehow....people seem to be taking ages to get out. Uff!!! Hurry up, folks!!!!
8.20 am - Grabbing a cup of tea from the mess, along with a sandwich, it's time to dash to the class. (Maybe I should put in my name for the athletics events.)
8.29 am - Phew!! Made it to class....now to find the most unobtrusive corner of the classroom, where I won't be caught sleeping. The challenge is that there are at least 35-40 people vying for such spots. I generally settle for last bench or first bench...both are relatively safer places.
8.33 am - ZZZZZZZZZZZZ....
8.34 am - My neighbour elbows me awake, and I struggle to keep my eyes open...
8.36 am - ZZZZZZZZ.......
8.45 am - Teacher says: You!! Get up and wash your face.. don't sleep in my class!!!
8.45 am - I jerk awake...and almost get up and go out...when I realize that the teacher was referring to some other sleeper, not me. :P
8.46 am - ZZZZZZZZ.......
10.00 am - I stagger out, following a horde of other zombie-like creatures. The only difference between the zombies of those horror films and us being that we crave coffee like those ones crave blood. (Seriously!! I wonder why our politicians are worried about the Iran gas pipeline. I'd rather spend some money to lay a pipeline from the coffee shop to the classroom, so that poor students don't have to walk so far.)
10.15 am - Back to class...
10.16 am - ZZZZZZ......
10.17 am - People are desperately asking all kinds of nonsensical questions, just to stay awake, and to prove to the teacher that they ARE awake.
10.18 am - I think of asking which came before, the chicken or the egg, but...yawn...yawn...ZZZZZZZZZ......
11.45 am - My neighbour (Useless character!!!!) had also dozed off, so he/she didn't wake me this time.
12.00 am - Time for the next lecture....and the cycle continues... :(
1.30 pm - Wow!! I feel like a war veteran - as if I have just survived heavy artillery firing at the border. It's time to head to the mess to grab some food.
2.15 pm - Burp!! After discussions of who was sleeping in class, vehement denials, and debates, it's time to move back to rooms.
2.30 pm - If any clothes are to be washed, time to do so. Of course, the variables are....the washing machine should not be occupied by anyone else...there should be washing powder available...presence of electricity etc.
2.45 pm - Oh heck!!! Sleepy again!! Let's chill for a while...before attempting anything else.
3.15 pm - Study for a while or sleep...depending on the subject that needs to be studied. :P
4.45 pm - Check on the clothes...rescue them from the machine...and dry them
5.00 pm - Evening snacks!! Somehow, these people have a deep-rooted love for carrots...I've never had veg cutlets and bread rolls filled with only boiled carrots earlier. 😞 (No wonder, there's a senior called Bugs Bunny at XL!! )
6.00 pm - A bit of activities - sports, socialising, group discussions et al plus any community activities....since these days selections for various committees are going on, interviews, SOPs, and stuff keeps happening.
8.00 pm - Dinner 😃 Generally okay-ish...and we look forward to days when good non-veg is served. :P
9.00 pm - Committee stuff once again....otherwise we study or chit-chat...check emails....reply to official mails etc.
10.00 pm - Time to take a break.....revisit the day gone by....and flip over some lecture notes
11.00 pm - The day's begins now...probably the time of the day when we're freshest, and the whole senior-junior gang is at its most active. Time to go to the library with the lappie, and some heavy books.
1.00 am - Enough!! Some snacks at the night canteen are necesary to keep the fires burning. 😁 Some aloo paranthas/maggi/coffee/nimboo pani, and we're raring to go.
1.30 am - Another round of studies at the library....
3.00 am - Some wise guy comes up with the idea of playing a game on the network. And all of us jump in!!
4.00 am - Time to hit the bed...but oh heck....I don't remember much of the article the prof asked me to read.....will there be a surprise quiz tomorrow? Will I be able to stay awake in class tomorrow? If I doze off, will I get kicked out of class?
4.01 am - ZZZZ......

That's what it looks like, so far....even on Saturdays.... 😃 Tomorrow, we have a trek planned by the college...so the entire day will go...in the evening, we have interviews for one of the committees. After that, we will be studying for Monday's lectures.

In goes the free-kick and the shot comes in...and it's IN!!! MILAN HAVE SCORED!! A goal in 50 seconds for Milan...
.... and it's all gone wrong in the first minute...a wretched wretched start for Liverpool....
1-0
...
Liverpool could be stretched again....as Crespo from close range has doubled Milan's lead...Liverpool nil...AC Milan 2...and this final is over!!
....
It could be 3-0 and it IS 3-0. Things going from bad to worse for Liverpool!! Milan are playing football that's out of this world. No one can live with this!!!!

A time for despondency, a time for despair. A time to mourn, a time to shed a tear. But also, a time to gird up one's loins, and put up a fight. A time to prove that the blood that flows in my veins is REALLY RED!! A time to wipe those tears dry, and proclaim to the world, that the fight has just begun.

I had thought that the day I lost the Students' Council elections by a solitary vote was a low point. I was dejected, disheartened, disillusioned, disgruntled, and any other conceivable adjectives that one can find in a reasonably good thesaurus. What hurt even more was people coming up to me and asking, "How could you lose?"

It was tough maintaining a plastic smile, and saying, "Ah, such things happen."

And today, not making it to SAPPHIRE, (the HR Association) feels worse than ever. I really like the work this society does, and I so desperately wanted to be a part of it. But apparently, they didn't think I'd add much value, and so I got the boot. There are another couple of committees I'd applied to, but I don't think I have the courage to face another rejection.

I was sitting on the terrace, despondent and close to tears, when Shubham dropped by. After listening to my tale he said, "So what!! You are a RED!! And I thought you guys never give up!"

That's true man!! RED is the colour that flows through me. And I won't give up. Like a true RED, I'll fight it out, and make sure that I win this! Losing small battles won't matter, once one wins the war.

...towards Gerrard!! Captain's goal! Still trying maybe, for the impossible to happen...
25 yards out....and IT'S IN!! IT'S IN!!! OOOOOO my word!!! Vladimir Smicer!!!! Miracles are possible... and do we have a game now!!
Step up Xabi Alonso, to equalise, yes EQUALISE for Liverpool! Misses, but takes the rebound...and MISSION IMPOSSIBLE is accomplished!!!
"Once a European Champion, always a European Champion!!"

Absolutely! As a real red, I don't have the right to give up. I'll live and get up, to fight another day. Perhaps, as Dickens said, "It was the best of times, it was the worst of times."
