Kya khuub kahi sumit sir! Jiyo

Whew! Just back from a whirlwind tour of IIM Indore (a trip that included going around in swanky brand new AC SX4s to walking miles in the hot sun in the afternoon looking for a cybercafe while the whole Nagpur market was out of electricity; from spending the nights in cozy AC 3 Tier coaches to spending the entire night out on the Bhopal railway station in the cold! And this is all in addition to this:D) But it was worth it!

Meanwhile, over there at IRIS, XL ransacked IIM Indore in all its events! Literally!!!

In the B-Plan section,
we swept off the floor in "Kalpavriksha", netting a cool sum of 2 lakhs, from over 103 entries from across the B-Schools, and judged by executives from Aavishkaar India Micro Venture Capital Fund, IndianNGO.com and India Development Gateway.

Besides the prize money, along with other finalists they will also receive mentorship by executives from IndianNGO.com and India Development Gateway, a capital market place for social ventures in India. They will also be able to put up their ideas on India Development Gateway.

As the winner of the event, Parichay (winner team) gets a direct semi-final entry into the Global Social Entrepreneurship Competition (GSEC) to be held at Foster School of Business in Seattle, USA (Feb 23-27, 2009).

Then in the Finance department,
we won the first price (that's a cool sum of 75 k) in "Cerebrate Finance", in addition to coming second in "Insuris"!

Again in the Marketing department,
we won both the first & second price in "Cerebrate Marketing" making a clean sweep of the price money of 25k! (your's truly also involved ;))

And last I heard is more wins @ XIMB, MICA, IMT, etc all gushing in :D
With 4 of the IIM fests still to go, I can see a flurry of cash into XLRI :-P

XL rawks!

P.S. With Ensemble 2008 happening next month, I dare Indore to do the same to us! Come one, win all! :)

Flurry of cash to theek hai.... :sneaky: hum junior log ko party bhi de do...

yaar sumit... cash comes and cash goes... but we poor juniors see none of it flowing into our tummies... its just mess and the blessed bala for us...

This definitely needs to be updated here!
IIMC was rocked by Xlers! Literally!

Stage : GSK StratEdge Competition, Eastern Zonal Stage

3 teams from XLRI and 3 from IIMC shortlisted. We head off to Cal (IIMC) for the zonal presentations on 17th.

Result - 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize, all go to XLRI, with the first team heading off to the finals!!!

First IIM Indore, now Calcutta! What next ;)
XL-rians rock

On a parallel note, a big thanks to the hospitality aspects of IIMC guys 😃 (especially members of their placecomm team who helped us a lot over there!)

Cheers,
Ninja

XLers surely rock!! Right now, most of the competitions are senior-dominated, because of their superior knowledge and more free time. :sneaky:

But, they'll be leaving us juniors with a tough legacy to match up to next year. :)

My team for one of the Ensemble events is waitlisted 3rd, so that's a tough call. I don't see three cancellations happening.

But, the level of busy-ness just went up again. With CAT over, a lot of junta is focusing on XAT, and hence, the number of PMs/emails I get is just mind-boggling. Still, "I am loving it!!"

P.S. Grammar fanatics, please ignore the line in quotes.

Bhool chook maaf :rockedov:

Great session by the president and secretary of "Nutan Mumbai Tiffin Box Suppliers Association", in short, The Mumbai Dabbawalas, today at XLRI. It was a great learning opportunity for all of us, and a great insight in the power of simplicity.
The two speakers, in their homely hindi, mesmerized the audience and tickled their funny bones at the same time. In very plain and simple language, they described their story of success and how they achieve 99.9999 % efficiency with a workforce of 5000 employees, three fourth of whom are illiterate.
They gave a brief account of how their supply chain functions and how they maintain discipline amongst the workforce. Then they went on to describe the honors and accolades that have come their way lately. they enumerated various interesting incidents related to Prince Charles' visit to see their operations and their London trip in his wedding.
All in all, it was a splendid session, enjoyed by students and faculty alike.
Only the poor exchange students couldn't get much out of the lectures in hindi and left halfway 😛

Yes, it was brilliant! The key learning points for me were:

1) Visual management
2) Supply chain management
3) The 5S technique
4) Obviously, Six Sigma

Note: Six Sigma is not 6 defects per million - it is 3.4 defects per million

But wat I learnt was that One needs to have a solid backing to prove ur worth... In this case Prince Charles became the facilitator...

In that case perhaps, you didn't note the complete takeaway. :sarcasm:

Solid backing only works if you have substance first. (Since you missed out on the first half of the talk, it looks like you skipped that bit. :rockedov:)

Oho, Sir what I meant was that substance alone cant take u anywhere...

These ppl were doing an awesome work for 120 years, but they get recognized by an external authority...

Sahi hai.... marketing padh rahe ho...shuru ho jaao with product differentiation and product packaging fundas... hum IR vaale bhi kuch seekh lenge...

Just leave all this, and give the outside world a sneak-peak to Ensemble...

Right ho VJ!!
ensemble started today with the traditional fervor and enthusiasm!! The whole campus is dressed up for this annual mega-event and teams have started pouring in from all parts of the country. Poster are up all around the campus (designed by me, Sumit, Atul, Tapan, Aditya and the rest of the creative team) and flood lights are flooding my room at night...
Our dear sac members (read Sid) are suddenly too busy to catch and the logs desk is suddenly bustling with activity.
As for the competitions, its too early to comment, but people dressed in business suits are being sighted moving in and out of the venues, which means, things are well in way.
And then there are people like me, who have no other work but to peck away at their keyboards vicarious accounts of all the activity going on!
Hoping to see an awesome Ensemble '08 ahead!!!
Rajdeep

Awesome account, Rajdeep! If not for 'vicarious' pleasure-seekers like you, how would the outside world come to know of the fun we are having at Ensemble?

So, keep pecking away at that keyboard, and I shall keep giving you company off and on.

I'm participating in the sudoku challenge in the evening, and hoping to (somehow) make it to the next round.

Three days of whirlwind activity draws to an end as all participants and xl-ers, tired yet enriched, spent yet fulfilled, stagger back to their destinations...Curtains fall on a super-successful Ensemble 2008.
Loads of prizes were won, which ranged from ISB winning 2.5 Laks at ABG boardroom to our 'dabba' winning a Nokia Express Music phone for the 'Best song dedication'!
While XL-ers bagged the C2C (marketing) prize, SP-Jain walked away with the War of Witz first position.
Hundreds of informals were conducted for vellas like me (yes even I got to do something finally, apart from running to rly station to receive teams and guests... and posting on PG 😉 ) I also won a Dairy Milk for above average acting in "Nukkad - the street play contest!
And not to forget the open air dinner party last night, where all the students from various B-schools finally got together for some informal chit-chat and so called 'networking!'
All in all, it was an awesome 3 days, the B-school spirit coming alive in every event manifested by every participant! XL-rocks! so does ensemble!!

P.S. I also got to speak to 93.5 S-FM RJ's about XL and ensemble! Few minutes of unexpected fame for me and dear Sid!

Rajdeep, you're too modest, man!!

For anyone unacquainted, this chap is a brilliant mimic! He had us all in splits with his impressions of various profs who teach us.

But yes, three days of frenetic activity draws to a close, and I am already missing it! As the refrains of the song 'XL meri jaan' fade out, I realize (again) how much this place rocks. :)

And yes, it is great to have some wonderful friends here. The last 5 months have whizzed past due to the presence of some wonderful, wonderful people out here. Thank you everyone!!

We rock!

Well this is my first post in a very long time and also the first on any other b-school thread.
But I had to say this. I was at Ensemble and witnessed the XL hospitality and was very impressed with it. I have come back with some fond memories and a bit of moolah as well
Great job XLers. Keep up the good work!
