The Marketing Association at XLRI (MAXI) is organized its annual MAXI Fair on January 17-18, 2009 at XLRI School of Business and Human Resources. Started in 1979, the MAXI Fair is an effort by the students of XLRI to conduct Market Research within the format of a games fair. The idea was first proposed by Prof Sharad Sarin, Professor of Marketing at XLRI in 1976.
Every year, Indian corporates bring their marketing research problems to XLRI students, who design games to solve them. The Aditya Birla Group, RPGs Spencer Retail and Tata Steel are the three corporates participating in MAXI Fair this year. Spencer Retail had, in fact, used strategies suggested by XLRI students to facilitate its entry into Jamshedpur the previous year.
In order to celebrate the thirtieth year of the Fair, students have taken MAXI Fair down the social route this year - for the first time, there are three social organizations participating in MAXI Fair 2009. UNICEF, NEEV and Byrraju Foundation are the three organizations that have chosen MAXI Fair as a means to solve their research problems. Another new initiative by the students is an attempt to assure increased quality for the research conducted at MAXI Fair. An external agency has been engaged to evaluate and provide feedback on the games and research conducted at the fair.
MAXI Fair had started a rural component in the past couple of years, and this will again be implemented this year. The student will travel to a village outside Jamshedpur and set up stalls there to get data about the product preferences of people in the rural community.
Just to add that we pioneering this concept for Marketing Fair which has now been copied by many B-Schools.... in India and abroad. I don't wanna embarrass them by taking their names, but most of 'em figure in PagalGuy's Top 15.

And yes, this year, there will be 120 each of BM and IR folks...
Certainly looks like it! 😁 I hope Sapphire isn't planning to do the same... :xmas:
Manan and Tapan seem to have disappeared from here, lately. Dunno why...
Blame it on the non stop quizzes / presentations / project submissions that Bummers have been made to face through out the last fortnight or so..But thankfully tonight we have got a breather!

Nothing derogatory, Vijay. We have a tough course on Financial Management in this term, and since I find it particularly tough and laborious, I just renamed the PMIR course to Financial Management and Industrial Relations (FMIR).
