Xlence is everything Rest is Crap

A fun filled weekend culminated with XL winning the trpohy. The celebrations were marked by a musical night by Bodhi Tree and XIMB band. Rains have been lashing out as if the sky is also crying at our misery ( we have a quiz in an hour and then 4 submissions tonight). thefeeling of winning had not even sunk in yet and here we are back to our busy schedule. Thats the life at XL.... fast paced and full of ups and downs...........
Gotta go and study :)

All the committee selections are over. Yes these rigorous election and selection procedures had convoluted our minds and made sure we went dizzy. With the project submissions staring us at face, the seniors organised freshers to eliminate that seriousness that had shrouded us. A remarkable way to mark the independence day!!
The night was filled with the tunes of Bodhi tree as we witnessed a musical night right after the freshers. All of us forgot those assignments and projects and swayed to some beautiful music. Now we are feel like True XLers in every sense. U rock Seniors!!

Projects, submissions case studies and deadlines these are routine words now. The entire batch is running helter skelter, confused minds running every where not knowing what to do when there is a deadline around the corner. So much so that you don't realise what day it is. Thanks to the standard Dosa breakfast (which we mostly miss) and Special dinner we know that a Sunday has arrived. But in the end it all works out great and no matter what you are smiling and ready for the next challenge.:cheerio:
We are being pushed to the limits and in that process we are finding our true potentials. (seems too good to be true 😛 ).
Officially now we are night creatures who work during the day as well.Yes a long sleep is still a distant dream but we are becoming adept at taking those power naps and waking 5 minutes before classes and rushing to them with a bread toast in your hand. Even the independence day holiday(yes you heard it right a holiday at XL!!!:) was no holiday, as the there were too many submissions ( I lost count of how many) and readings and presentations to make.
Over to some news updates- there was another wet night :cheerio:and we stashed away all the hectic work and danced like maniacs. And even if you don't drink you do get wet on these nights thanks to the rocking music and disco style dancing ( not Mithun's Disco Dance :P) .Still humming the tunes of XL meri jaan and GMD.
Birthdays bring out all the frustrations and that person wishes he was never born. The tradition of celebrating all the birthdays and all the rituals associated with them are followed quite religiously
We had a live case study by Asian Paints where our alums gave in some handy tricks of trade. It was an enlightening session and really brought to fore numerous ground realities. Such type of industry exposure is only possible in XL.;)
Besides Dracs have suddenly become hyper active with so many events lined up, so much so that every second mail is theirs. I am loving this cause its my favourite committee.
Rains too like the work here never stop. It was quite difficult time for all of us, this being the festive season and all of us being at a home away from home were missing our families. But then we also have family here that keeps us all going, that is always by your side, during all highs and lows, a family that eats together, celebrates together, works together and pushes you all the time to deliver nothing but the best...... The XL family and it truly rockssss

Check the new signatures ......

Its been 21 days at XL.
I've had breakfast 4 times.
I've bunked(or missed) lectures 6 times.
I've slept in class (n-1) times where n=number of lectures attended.
I've cussed infinitely.
I've studied infinitesimally.
I've completed ZERO out of three projects allotted till now.
I've made progress on ZERO out of three projects allotted till now.
I've plans for how to proceed on ZERO out of three projects allotted till now.

Pre-readings(stuff to be read before a lecture), projects, forthcoming quizzes. That's pretty much the picture of the initial days at XLRI. People here are nice. People here are good. People here know what they're here for. People here think. People here work. I'm somehow the odd one out - a square peg in a round hole!

A square peg in a round hole...that's pretty much GMD. True as it is, GMD is the order of the day. Its an uncanny feeling watching the junta around slogging their asses off while you cant relate yourself to the multi-coloured fonts. Gosh! Am I dyslexic? Am I a moron? Am I paranoid?

But there are quite a few "friends" here. Yes, friends. And there's this senior whom I respect more than anyone else in this campus. The chill-pill. And there's Internet. Ultra-high speed. And there's FLIX - our movie server. And there's air conditioning. And there's this lovely weather after yesterday's cat-and-dog rain.

Life's good. Life's great. I'm living my dream as an XLer. I'm not happy. I'm paranoid...inexplicably!

This is the first in a series of Rape-at-XL of sorts. The author (BM-2009-11/XLRI) has just gotten out of the heaven/hell in the heart of a wonderfully sleepy town and has been thrown into the cacophony of Kolkata where he makes a living by telling lies and selling fried slivers of potato in a shiny non-degradable material. Welcome, procrastinators.

Coincidentally, there are exactly three submissions remaining and Term 1 is about to end in 3 days! Seniors have started leaving home further increasing our love-for-home exponentially.

Nothing beats a good four hour sleep, especially the one that comes after two consecutive.night outs, a quiz and an extremely important project report. Thanks to our great BISHU DA :cheers:we at XL have the strength to last these night outs. Its kinda hard to imagine that there was a time when we used to sleep 10-12 hrs.
Two months here have been like ages.
Though Sunday is here, but the workload that we have has suddenly gone up exponentially. With the end terms coming up, the batch is bracing itself for a week full of horrors. But like always we have that confidence in ourselves that stems from the belief "this too shall pass".....ofcourse when it will pass we still will be smiling.....a quality called excellence that distinguishes us from others. Eveeryone is looking forward to the holidays that are coming ( other b-schools envy us cause we will b free before others) yes the sleep would be welcome, but I am sure even in those 10 days we will miss the routines of this place which is both good and bad.

Now its time to take the law into my own hands ( damn it I cant remember where I kept my law book :banghead:

Kamine... sach sabko pataa hai.
Yaha par jhoot bolne se kuch bhi nhi hoga.

First day of the second term....
Seniors welcomed us with a prophetic words "Hope you guys had a relaxing holidays, cause thats all the rest you are gonna get for next few months".... So begins the second innings of life at XL, unarguably the most exciting and quick paced of all. Looking forward towards an intense and exciting few months ahead. Best of luck to all my fellow XLers....lets rock........
On rocking : the day we reached Delhi an earthquake struck and same thing happened yesterday when we reached XL.... so we can say we truly rock (literally and figuratively 😉 )

P.S.- @Raghav- tis not over yet

The second term has started and boy it is tough.
Even before the start of the term the mother of all assignments landed in the inbox. We are yet to start with the assignments of this term still battling with the left overs of the previous one. With the preparations of summers going on full swing and companies coming down here and many competitions under way we have been scuttling like rats from here to there. Everyone is excited and one thing which everyone of my batch mates would endorse is its really tough to sell yourself. But as usual we are hanging on.
One good thing with these company ppts is after the event you get dominoes pizza , cold drinks and the like, so our efforts are not going unrewarded.
Sleep is suffering (especially after the habit of 12 hr sleep a day during the break) and with that sleep academics is suffering too. Missed a class today :-(. Was not able to wake up (never ever thought that would have been my reaction to missing a class)...
YFilms came here with there prestigious competition HUL LIME 3. It was a wonderful event. They gave away blackberrys and IPODs as prizes to the audience!! (no didn't land up with either but some of my friends did 😁 )
Benefits of being an XLer

Is the day over yet???
Have we completed all the requirements.....
hmmm lets recollect
made a big group presentation, attended a company presentation, slept in a lecture, gave the big presentation, attended an important session by seniors, pitched in dialogues for nukkad natak, participated in two gds, sat and completed another mini project with group members......all this after 6pm!!...
Looks like all done and its time to sleep.....or am I missing something.........
OH Wait missed a major assignment and of that too of FINANCE!!!
looks like another night out on the cards......cya felas

It was my fourth movie on the trot....... All day I had done nothing, but eat, sleep, bunk classes (which obviously didn't happen as faculty too bunked them) and watch movies..... Sudddenly the torrent speed dropped from 5 mbps to 0..... something was wrong, i shook the laptop, nothing, then i realised the laptop was shaking me!!!:wow:
and then i opened my eyes to realise my roomie shouting it already 8.50.....we have a quiz at 9. For a few minutes I didn't realise where was I.I had been dreaming of engineering days and hence the confusion. It was one of those dreams where everything is utopian, but then one single error makes you question the state of the world around you, in this case the super fast net speed which I never saw before coming to XLRI. I was dreaming the best of both the worlds......
Thus started an eventful day. The start like the end of my dream was horrible. IT was THE quiz. Every question seemed easy and elementary but and there is always a but, in each there was a catch, which I drooped in every question.... So after the horrible quiz, I went to bed to catch up on some of my precious sleep which i had just for few hours in preceding days. Was woken up for the practice of Nukkad natak. ;)
Joy of giving week kick started today. And Dracula organised nukkad natak to create social awakening on the the issue of sharing and caring. We performed to a packed audience on the road infront of the busiest joints of bistupur. It was great fun and people appreciated our efforts. :D
On our return we were told that marks for Qt were out! and till now I don't know how much i scored as the office had closed by then,
Then we did some aggressive marketing campaign on facebook on a funny ad. We missed the coveted first spot by a whisker. Then did some pre reading for the class attended a two hour long session by the end of which my limbs had given away. It is that point of time when friends convince you that only solution to your problems is booze and chicken. We went out to a new spot and it was really cheap and food was yummmy/ While they gulped booze:cheers: I devoured chicken. we had a company ppt after that so we rushed back to campus. I changed my shirt heading to lecture hall (t-shirts weren't allowed) thanks to my roomie and we made it just in time for the ppt. So after it when we though all the excitement in life was drained out came the news flash of a wetnight. The first of this session and first in open sky. It is always refreshing to dance out your worries especially when your dance partners are some girls from beyond the seven seas( the exchange students ). So after dancing out our hearts here we are tired exhausted, and yet full of energy, for now the joy of giving week has started. A noble initiative by XLRI to bring smiles on the faces of all. also tomorrow is the first free sunday (a holiday!!) :wow:a rare holiday, but like every other holiday its not free. With it come a lot of pre readings, preparations of important documents (The details of which I can't divulge) and surprise quiz preparations which are due now. But then we have planned to go to a bike rally and also to dalma trek after that. Hope it all goes as planned. it has been a long eventful day that started horribly but ended with a bang and we re looking forward to an eventful day tomorrow too.
Thats how life is at XLRI and we are loving it ,every bit of it

A Bike Rally was organized to promote Joy of giving week. It was a fun experience riding the bike with flags tied on front, as we rode through jamshedpur's streets. After the bike rally we went on a crazy ride to dalma trek on bullet. The trek was awesome, we also met on our way the foreign troupe that had left in the morning for trek (sigh we couldn't go with them) For a few hours we forgot all about the deadlines and ppts and enjoyed nature's beauty and mesmerising environment.
Came back tired and all dishelved only to find a huge workload staring at my face... So gotta get up and going

Amid the mountain load of studies and other works.......XLers today busted their stress by playing dandia tonight. Even though a guy like me doesn't know how to hold the sticks it was fun as we innovated and improvised mixing one dance form with another. An important lesson I learned today was, you may not know how to dance, but if the music is playing, just hop on to the dance floor and flow with the rhythm and tune of the music. Now its both figurative and literal learning that I had.
We study hard no doubt, but we party harder.
Thanks to my friends (Miss LIKE in particular) for teaching me some dance steps, I hope I can repeat those while dancing tomorrow, at-least the girls wouldn't be scared by my menacing bhangra type movements

One of the greatest sights in this world is the relief you see on your friends face when he comes out with a triumphant smile and says " Ho gaya yaar....." nothing beats it, save the feeling when you yourself are the one saying it to your friends. The joy these three words bring evaporate all the frustration, tiredness and rejuvenates you. With seniors there to support you at every step and friends ready to lift you up whenever you fall down, you never feel alone even in the toughest of circumstances. We the batch of XL 2k13 underwnet the most tiring perhaps also the most important phase of our career. Some dreams came true, others were formed, some shattered, but in the end everyone was smiling, rejoicing and enjoying the success that you get by being in the premire B-schools of the country. XL spirit came to fore and seniors selflessly served their juniors, helping them, guiding them and most importantly being there for them when they needed support. They went out of their way to help us in all aspects, making sure we ate well, slept well and performed when it mattered the most. And what to say of friends...the buggers never leave you alone and are always by your side laughing, cheering and making sure your spirits are high.I am in love with the spirit of XL and the XLers (of-course :P)
Well for the record XLRI had brilliant summer internships amidst all the turmoil and chaos of the economy, enitre batch of 2013 has been placed..... for all the stats and figures wait for the official announcements

P.S. Its Party time :cheers::clap:(obviously :D)
