My Life as a Bank Officer

@ramana_rvlms frankely speaking put your target UPSC or bank if you join bank in process though you are in bank you need to devote all possible time for UPSC,i do think that you can get same amount of time from present job also as PO job involves training and frequent shifting in two years its not at advisable as concentration on UPSC study may get harder, lastly it depends on person to person.........

Guys, Went through the thread and found out that many of you are wondering what kind of Job a PO has and what are all benefits a person gets. Well am Working as a PO in State bank of Mysore since July and must tell you that I am very much SATISFIED with the decision I took, against joining MBA in a prestigious college in Bangalore. Firstly coming to salary and perks, Being one of the associate banks of state bank group my bank pays me fairly well, compared to other Public sector banks other than state bank group. As everyone of you is aware of the basic salary that is 14500 + DA that amount to around 23000 presently. Rest are the perks that are 60 litres of oil reimbursed to officers + entertainment + expenses for tea coffee, newpapers, magazines+ HRA. it all amounts to RS 33 k presently. I am posted at a scale 4 urban branch right now and can lease a home up to Rs 16000. If I were to be posted in a Delhi or Mumbai lease limits is Rs 29000. After completion of one year a sum of Rs 90k is given exclusively for purchase of furniture.

Rest about job, every job comes with a responsibility, and no one in this world is going to pay you sitting your ass off and doing nothing. Bank job comes with its own risks and perks. I am posted in old Mysore state, a hotspot for the bank and have to work my ass off till 8 o clock (there is an allowance for late sitting too). My experience is a bank job becomes monotonous if you shy away from taking new challenges banking is changing every day and this effect trickles down to bottom every day, it is upto you to learn, rise and shine.

Yes, the average age of people in state bank group is 51 and old people talk a lot about bygone era, but friends, let me tell you that young blood is welcomed like princes in the bank. Our comfort with technology is well appreciated and old people let us take initiative and help to learn a lot. Don't think that as Officers you'll be struck in rural places doing same job every day, banking is a gigantic machine, which part you want to be is up to you. Officers after completion of probation are posted in metro branches on challenging tasks such as forex trading, corporate loans and investment banking folios. You can clear JAIIB and CAIIB and can rise up the ladder even faster. It all depends on you. Now that I have written too much hope this'll help many of the PO aspirants. :)

@beetard :hiii i have persued B.TECH in IT....how much it 'll be difficult or easy to be there in bank for B.TECH graduate????nd specially if one consider that he/she is not experieced guy/girl.....
@kooljais dude I am an engineering gradutate myself, well bank's present MD is an engineering graduate, my region's AGM is an engineering gradaute (IITian, joined bank way back in 1974). don't think people will poke you for choosing banking as a profession, just walk in confidently, just remember that being engineer our comfort level with numbers is better.
@beetard :thnxxx for booting my confidence .........can u please guide me regarding prepration ?????....as for me the weakest part is GA(gernal awareness).....
@kooljais adding on that, I was a fresher, who had dropped 2 years for exam preparation after graduation, I did my engineering from a **** all college with no hope of getting placed with the grades I got. Nevertheless I worked hard and it paid well in the end. So don't lose heart for being a fresher.
@kooljais I my opinion there is no single source that can prepare you well for GA. Nevertheless go through Pratiyogita Darpan every month, especially the economics section. Being an engineer it won't be difficult for you to grasp Economics, just work you way up from the basics, don't try to mug things up. You have got access to internet so go through latest news specially about economics and business THOROUGHLY In my case the biggest mark I left on my interviewers was when I explained in detail about Euro crisis. And all the knowledge I had got by going through neutral and different sources on the web. As you develop interest you'll be able to make out whatever is important. And don't forget to go through Newspapers every day.
@beetard :thanks a lot sir......hope i 'll be ur future junior in SBI.........sir one more thing is there big difference between SPECIALIST OFFICER and PO????
@kooljais I know how that feels dude. Just keep on working hard, be buddies with RS Aggarwal and Pratiyogita Darpan. Don't leave any stone un turned, there were times when I had exam every sunday which I would screw for one reason or another and come weep lying in my bed, far away from home. Toiled like an ass and was left dumbstruck when didn't make it through IBPS due to want of marks in descriptive (got 22) while in objective I scored 183. Never wanted to go for MBA because that meant not earning for 2 years while spending hard earned dough of parents, By god's grace made it through hardest exam of 2011 and made it through. Only one reason, never lose hope, just be crazy and don't give an ear to people who try to take you off your path. Remember life screws everybody just tell yourself that unemployment is not the way you want to be screwed. peace.
@kooljais Specialist officers deal specially with IT related things, generally sit in good locations and troubleshoot technical problems from all over the region. In laymen's terms they get screwed for first 15 days of the months and last 5 days, for preparing various reports. Rest they just receive and forward calls regarding technical problems. A PO does all the tasks related to general banking and has access to various financial grounds. Both are good prospects, just make it through one of them. God bless.
@beetard :thank sir...i 'll try my best to be there......
