@hiteshpratap Its very hard to pick just one book. Each coaching provider has its own advantages. TIME has good Quant/DI/LR, while CL has good english IM. You may need some support books for CAT apart from the standard study material 1) Total Gadha Number System 2) Arun Sharma or Quantum CAT for Quant3) Normal Lewis Vocab book4) ShakuntalaDevi and George Summers Puzzle books
Hey guys....myself as a mechanical engineer, having 4 & 1/2 yrs of experience in Project with a steels EPC firm (not well known firm), now wanna start preparing for Cat 2013....plz guide me in my preparation....it's a late start due to sm family responsibilities... kindly also advice me about how my present experience will help me further....plz suggest me...
@pushp00 we have many work ex guys here at IIM Rohtak with exp around 4 yrs. You may want to send a detailed a questions list to clarify.I have PMe you my email id.You can shoot any queries whenever you like.
@IIMONLY u have a nice profile and staying in IBM will give enough time to prepare I believe 😉 i am an ex-IBMer ,worked in Pune, which place do you work at?
@IIMONLY Minimum Percentile for each college varies, so does sectional. You have a very good profile, which would help you immensely in getting calls.
There are a lot of threads on PG where a lot is said about each section, just use the search option to find out about each section and the gyaan that others have poured out. Some basic things that you could do
1) Join Test series and improve your weak areas as sectionals spoil the party for a lot of students.
2) Join the Quant thread here on PG, it's tremendously helpful.
3) Read, read and read some more, eclectically. Its the panacea for 90% verbal trouble.
4) DI/LR is about practice.
5) Pick up a quality study books, (not tonnes of study material) and solve those prudently, if need be, do them again.
6) Try to stay in touch with all three areas, coz sometimes it happens that students keep studying one area and forget the rest. Make sure you are abreast with all three sections to every extent possible.
7) Pick up some hobby, take part in extra curricular activities etc. to build your profile. Make a solid groundwork for why you want to do an MBA.
8) Develop a back up plan, in case things do not go your way.
These are few things that came to my mind. Hopefully, these would help. ATB for your preparation.
@pushp00 Its not late to start preparation, in fact, a bit early by normal standards. On an average, 4-5 months or prudent study is enough for CAT.
Your present experience would help you in getting Interview calls and during Interview. For experienced guys, the interview is mostly inclined towards questions from their jobs etc. Its not that important if you don't have a big brand name, the actual work is important. Many a big names offer boring jobs, with little learning while many start ups offer challenging positions. So its very subjective and depends on how you portray and sell yourself. ATB.
Is there any full time CAT residential coaching institutes anywhere within india ...pls share your thoughts if u r aware of any such institutes. Thanks in advance
You just hav to be persistent with CAT. Plus, the problems in CAT are quite interesting, the type you'd solve during your free time.
Take up as many mock exams as possible. The most important part is to solve the paper completely after each mock CAT. This will expose you to multiple ways of attempting a problem.
Full time coaching is not what it takes to crack CAT, its just consistency 😃 ATB
You have a really good profile :). Do let me know the board in which u did your 10th and 12th, because in IIM-K it matters a lot. As for the other IIMs, a percentile over 94(if you come under OBC Non Creamy) would guarantee you a seat for sure :)

But sir,AFAIK, as per the definition of work experience given by IIMs, it must be after graduation, of full time and paid, So I don't think your work ex. with Global E-Procedure is valid for IIMs :)...
First of all please stop quoting me as sir,I mean wth,why would you do that?? I am not talking about work ex here,I know it won't count as work ex,but would it be a good thing for my profile??an intern experience in a consultancy??
