[Official] CAT 2013 Aspirants

Hi! Can any of the seniors compare the online material of different institutes/websites. Also, do you think mentoring by a professor ie classroom teaching is really required? Or relegious self preparation can help you achieve that top bracket percentile easily? Are there any good material available online (even if at a price) that can TOTALLY compensate for the need of classroom teaching?

@sakshi43 if u r a genius then no classroom teaching is required...........u can crack cat through self study

no, who said coaching is necessary,
certainly it is not necessary,
I have seen so many of puys getting 99+ without coaching .
And regarding to the material, you may refer previous posts.

I don't know whether it was sarcastic comment.
Anyway, One doesn't need to be genius to crack CAT without coaching.

Can some of the seniors please post the various online resources they used while preparing for CAT? It would be of great help.

@sakshi43 gt TIME study materials with solutions ..........they r the best study materials i hav solved so far.......i also hav study materials of CL n IMS bt their standard is nt up to the mark as compared to TIME .

Your academic record is good enough to reach good colleges. I would suggest you to go through the below link and check the admission criteria for each of the IIMs.
Prepare well and score well. Belonging to a small city has never been a problem, I know many people who have come from places even less known than Gangtok.

If you are interested in doing an MBA you must prepare for CAT, just try to focus on the goal the path will be covered automatically.

Hello guys,I am BE fresher 2012 passout. I am looking for your help as m in a dilemma as to what i must do.
academic record -
10th - 89 %
12th -65%
BE - 72% (Engg colg in VTU)
I could not do BE in a good college ,but i want to work hard and do mba in IIMs.
As i had read earlier posts ,with such academic scores its very difficult that i make it into IIM. I have 2 options here. I once decided to work for 2 years just to improve my chances . Is it worth it and make a difference ??
OR
Instead i wud take a break and focus completely on the preparation for CAT 2013 .
So guys ,Please advice me on this.
Thank you so much.

2nd option is never an option rather it is a risk to your career. I would suggest you to go ahead with the first option. Imagine the situation when you bring x score having a gap of a year and another person with work ex brings the same score.Whom should any interviewer give a preference?

The obvious answer, most of the times, will be the work-ex guy. Take up the challenge to study along with your work. As far as your academic scores are concerned, you can check admission criteria for all IIMs from this link.

For IIM Rohtak it is
X -70
XII -65
UG - 60
All the best.

IIM A has a rating for every category of scores.

Application Rating (AR): 2013-15
Rating Score 1 2 3
(A) Percentage score in 10th Std. Exam (B) Percentage score in 12th Std. Exam (C) Percentage score in Bachelor's Degree Exam

But People with the score of
@missionCAT13 that is the competition not the eligibility criteria my friend. That could be the case with any other college as well if the number of applicants having more than 90% in X are more this year.Although I agree that it is very tough to get into IIM A.

thanks... it did really boost my confidence. Now I'll forget everything and just focus on CAT

"as IIMs prefer students from big cities..." This is totally crap. Please do not believe such rumours. Your place of living, schooling, graduation college doesn't play any role in the admission process of IIMs or any top b-school.
Coming to your profile, it looks decent and is enough to fetch calls from most of the IIMs provided you do extremely well in CAT. Your educational diversity (BBA) will surely help you in gaining some extra weightage over Engineers.

ATB!!
thanks for explaining... actually here at Gangtok everyone talks these stuff...

Former Option seems better,
Do not target IIMs only, XLRI/FMS/MDI/NITIE/TISS/NMIMS/SIBM/IIFT/JBIMS are also very good bschool, they don't emphasize too much on academic scores.
2 years of work experience will make your chances bright of getting in Top bschools like XLRI,IIM-L that prefer work ex guys over freshers.
Also write other exams like CMAT/XAT/NMAT/TISS/SNAP.
ATB
Regards.

Yes sure 😃 Thank you.
