[Official] CAT 2013 Aspirants

@MrCoolABC No coaching institute is going to give you a magic pill to make your VA strong (or for that matter even QA). The reason you are good with quant is because you basics are clear. If you feel you can go for self study go for it. If you feel the classroom environment will keep you motivated please go for a coaching institute. work on your basics (read the newspapers expecially topics you are not comfortable with) and also make sure you keep practicing regularly. In the end the quality of your hard work will matter more than the quality of the coaching institute and their teaching.
@DN2686 Thanks a lot...i really appreciate ur advice and will try to keep up to it..Thanks
@bhatta Please do not live in the misconception that you do not stand a chance for the MBA from a good institute. you do!!
IIMs prefer people with workex these days. and with workex of 6 years you definitely are in with a very good chance. I had people in my batch at IIMB with similar workex numbers as yours and even higher. If this does not work out maybe next year you can go for a PGPx
DN2686-actually, I was not getting confidence by preparing all by myself...nd also thought that I would get a flow by joining a coaching institute..plus, would consult the faculty for doubt clearing sessions nd all...that's y I joined CL..

hello puys...i hate the DI section completely...i break my head to solve it...any suggestions to improve in DI???

Start with the easy questions first...probably level 1 questions..
analyse the concepts used. See which part is it that makes you uncomfortable.
After getting comfy with those topics move on to level 2 and 3 types questions...

ATB!!!

thanks bhai...
@pavimai 1. start with smaller sets with easy questions.
2. it always helps to list down what all information is required to solve a question. For example go through the DI set and then read the questions that follow.
3. Write down the information needed to answer each question.
I hope you are talking only of DI and not LR. Try out these techniques and tell me if it helps.
@saurav.kgp All the very best mate
@leotheking there is no "-ve" weightage to high work-ex; its just that after a point of time returning back to the classroom might be difficult and that is why high workex might act as a hindrance.
45 months workex and that too in operations will hold you in good stead. so keep working hard
Noticed your tagline too: pessimism is very dangerous my friend, 80% students in B-schools are still male engineers. About the category thing.. well that i would not comment on. But yeah try and be a bit more positve
@sona12 evn a one year drop is not justified.. it shows poor time management skills and reflects badly on how you would become a good manager where dealing with multiple issues at the same time is a requirement.
2 years drop - well you might as well forget a b-school then. start working. How desperate would you come across when you tell the interview panel that you did not work inspite of having good acads. And that too when you know that workex helps in admission and it also helps a person take a more informed decision to do an MBA. You took that decision without working and now you are so desperate that all you want to do is study and prepare.
You might not even get an interview call in that case.
@DN2686 10th-90%, 12th-94%, BE-80% @ @SSN college(anna univ, chennai), work ex of 19 months with Infosys till now
@fazer55 there is no magic formula frnd... work hard.. stay focused and stay committed to the target... you will achieve success... there is no hard and fast rule/formula to get 95 percentile.
@ranga89 you have decent solid acads mate that have a good chance in India (in CAT). In GMAT though 19 months of workex is too less. 4-5 years is the average workex for getting into a good b-school abroad. if you are trying to go abroad better go to a good b-school so that you get a good job and are able to come back to india soon enough. this is not possible with a workex of only 19 months (my opinion).
Wth these acads you will get into a good tier-1 b-school provided you score well...

@MBA_brat Why do you want to set a target and limit your potential. Keep the target as 100 percentile... would that hurt?? or is that impossible?
get a grip over the situation mate... no body can tell you a minimum percentile that would guarantee your admission. SO just work hard - do not set targets: would not help you.
@DeAdLy Bhai I am also THIS CLOSE to being rejected in a month 😞 99.55 is too low when u are a G+E+M aiming for ABC & almost 60-65% reservation (SC/ST/OBC + Girls+non-engg (the untold hidden criteria)) :(
@ordinary_guy general male in now a minority. 😃
@DN2686 u r right!
@pavimai DI is like the Reading comprehension of Section-1. My Suggestion is..

You have to know Tables till 25...i.e 1X25, 2X25...upto 25X25
Squares of numbers of till 30.
Cubes till 12
And most importantly reciprocals and equivalent percentage figures.(Ex 1/2 = 50% 2/3 = 66%).

After your comfortable with your tables, squares etc etc...Try solving basic DI sets(Bar Graphs, Pie Charts, Case-lets).

After your good with the Basic DI sets, Increase the level and pretty soon you can master the DI Section...Practice Practice Practice...

Hope this helps...ATB

the untold criteria is what makes any GEM..those who get through become the GEM and you are close to being the GEM.
