we have classes from mon 2 sat 9 to quarter to 6.
food and accomodation is good. have got tv and fridges in our flats.
training is of 44 days.

i was campus recruited in jun 2004 by TCS bangalore
yesterday i went for my pre employment medical checkup...
I passed all the tests but discovered to my utter astonishment that I AM COLORBLIND!
they had a doubt so they called me again today for a re checkup for eyes by an eye specialist...
she gave me 36 slides( the ones with colored dots) to find out numbers, patterns, or color trails and i could read only 9 out of 36...
she said she is going to report me as color blind and also told me that the TCS norm is at least half the total slides shown should be clearly read...
i pleaded with her but to no avail....
An appeal to all ex-TCSers and would be joining ones....
Please tell me if TCS will reject me for this damn colorblindness thing or not( By the way i have worked in TCS delhi itself as a project trainee for 6 months without any problems due to damn colorblindness!!!)
Please if anyone has ever faced this? Help me... this is the only job i had....
my happiness is screwed...
ALso please tell whether Infosys and Wipro also have color blindness test in their medical check up....
Am i even eligible for the Software industry!!

I dont think there is much to worry about this. The same thing had happened to one of my class mates back in college when we had our TCS medicals. In fact this had happened to a couple of guys in my batch. TCS made all these guys fill up a form and that it. So no need to worry too much about this buddy. For more details I can provide you the mail Id of my batch mate who had this problem. Do send me a private mail if you want it.

TCS are pretty strct abt it.. i am damn sure.... they wont let u enter TCS with colour blindness... If u r jugaadu and have right contacts then at the max they can let u join but on the condition that u wont take foriegn posting ever... and i am pretty sure of what i have written...

The form that such candidates have to fill up is regarding the health insurance scheme that the employees are a part of. By filling up that form, the company makes sure that such candidates can't claim money from the company on the basis of the health problem in question. For example , our friend Tarfu won't able to claim Health insurance from the company on the grounds that he is Colorblind. That form will state that the health problem was present before the person had joined as organization and thus cant apply for it under the Health Insurance after joining the firm.

Clarifying one or two things...I am from DCE (NSIT) and I hope u know that it is considered one of the top notch colleges in India....and TCS straightway rejects any colourblind guy even from our coll... TCS selected 93 guys from our coll and out of those 3 were rejected bcoz of colorblindness...They were told that they have no chance.... A guy had a contact at very high postion in TCS..... because of that he ( and only he) was called and asked to sign a form stipulating that he will not be given a foriegn posting...(And here i repeat again that I AM NOT SAYING THIS ON THE BASIS OF HEARSAY)
And as u say that this doent make any sense... i dont know... but at the time of pre placement talk we were told by HR Head Delhi (some Verma) that TCS doesnt recruit clrblind ppl because at the time of forign postings ppl have to drive cars on their own in forign countries and they wont get the license if they r colourblind and then it poses a prob... I dont know whether it makes any sense or not ... but we were told this....
and if u still certain .. cme and explain this health insurance thing to those 3 ppl who had to loose the job in TCS one of whom is still jobless ....
well i rest my case.....
PS: wow!! u r from TCS... could u confirm the rumor abt the salary hikes for the freshers that are doing the rounds... Is the salary for fresher really been increased to 2.5+...

I talked to one Guy having ILP here , they were not told about the Salary hike , but one ASA told me that next year on the same time when juniors join our salaries will be increased proportionaly to what juniors are getting now.

I know what ever you are saying is based on your experience and the same is the case with what I said. Its just that both the arguments are contradicting and there is nothing we can do about it. Well yes, if they are doing it for driving licence, then it makes some sense, but the chances that you will actually own a car when you go onsite are not too high and cab drivers dont let you drive their cabs. But then, policies are policies.
Maybe its now that TCS has tightened up the policy regarding the medical stuff. Another reason could be that maybe the guys from my college had only minor Colorblindess and thats why they were given a grace sort of a thing.
Well I know NSIT and I know a very good college indeed. I dont know why you want me to explain ur mates the health insurance thing. The health insurance thing i've written about is pretty valid and thats how the companies protect their interest.
I am pretty sure that the guy who is still jobless is not being rejected on the basis of him being color blind by other companies ???
To end it, I think Guys with such a problem would do better lookin for another job as a backup to be on the safer side.
Even I am tired now .... hah!!!
And yes, about the pay hike guys... TCS is under cost-cutting phase right now and after a dismal quarterly result the last time, this cost cutting has taken front space in all the aspects of the firms business. So don't expect much now, but the pay should look decent when you complete a year or so but its still not as solid as what MNCs like IBM global services, accenture and CSC pay.

+ an MBA u will be Asst. Systems Analyst with 3 - 3.25 lacs
