That's a very common problem buddy!! without proper qualification and work-ex, companies hire marketing guys for tele-marketing and things in those lines. get an MBA, specialize in the domain that interests you, and then hunt for a marketing job.

Thanks Bharath for your advice.
I am undergoing one more dilema. As I mentioned that being an enggr from DCE my present Marketing job is more like BPO work. I have one more option of joining my Dad's business, which is not very big one at present but has a huge potential of Expansion.
My question is after 2-3 years of joining my Dad's business If I want to persue MBA for knowledge Or to come back to Corprorate, will I be allowed admission in MBA be it IIM's or MBA abroad.
Puys, all advices are welcome as I am under a lot of pressure to take some decision.

MBA colleges do not deny admission to any candidate for any reason other than failing to meet the minimum requirements. i don't see why you have doubts to join your Dad's business. be it big or small, what matters the most is that it will keep you occupied in the right spirit. whats more, it will also give a sense of satisfaction and comfort to your dad knowing that his son is working alongside him and is present in supporting him. its definitely a great plus for any business.
if you are interested in turning an entrepreneur yourself, working in your Dad's business is a great start for you. and since you mentioned that its a small business with a great potential for growth, if you can turn it around and make it a large business, then that would be a great value add to you resume. infact, once you complete your MBA you can even plan to continue and carry forward your Dad's business.
Hey I am a BBA graduate.I passed out in 2007. Then worked with a Bpo for an year and currently working with the same. Now I have got a job in sbi as PO. Also I have calls from some b-schools like SIBM-Bangalore,Narsee Monjee,Fore,Imt-Nagpur. I am hoping to convert some of them. But Now m damn confused as to wat shud I do.Shud I join SBI or go for MBA if I convert that. Please suggest
Last year i got 92%ile in Cat and converted welinkar but didnt joined coz i was 2008 batch B TECH pass out and has two offers M.B.T giving 3lpa and idea cellular giving 3.5
MBT hvnt called till and now i hv 8 month exp in Idea and happy with job.
but this time again i got 96%ile in CAT and giving MICA and KJSOM.
my ques is that in the times of recession is it good option to leave my job and go for MBA in these B schools. i hv given CAT w/o prep both times
Also i want to know return on investment if i got thru these schools coz in my job i will be earning more than 5.5lp after two years.
but want to make it clear i want to do MBA this time or later. dont want to do techincal job forever..
I am a BE(Computer Science) 3rd year student(New Delhi). For the past 2 months I was looking for some IT company for my summer internships(june-july). Now i have been confirmed by 2 firms. One is in Mumbai and the other is in Delhi only... Now the problem is that the Mumbai one gives a good opportunity to learn and the real corporate culture , but the Delhi one is just a dummy one with no practical training. I am enrolled with a coaching institute for CAT 09 , so am bit apprehensive to leave Delhi and go to a total new place.. I am scared that my prep for CAT would be affected ..but then fell that a good internship is also necessary
I am really confused !! Please give me some suggestions...

Yaar-If you can convert your calls from NMIMS,FORE,SIBM-bangalore(optional for you though-if you ask me I'd join if I convert my cal) My suggestn would be that you join-coz I ve been explained the job of a probationary officer in SBI-nothin compared to MBA. But if you wanna struggle with your entrance classes for another yr(totally my view!!) then I believe thats your call. But once again you get a cal from one of the above B-Schools grab the opportunity

now I wish to make to the following points clear-(a frnd of mine told me this) 1.pls do not consider MBA as a means of better placement(irrespective of the fact that it is and if you can convert MICA or KJSOM you'd end up gettin a min sal of 7 l.p.a. or more with both b-schools rated gr8!) 2. the Recession is just about how you look at it-I agree placement figures may come down a bit but there is always demand for a good manager.(Especially MICA has a great reputation in the advertising sector) 3. MBA gives you a platform to improve yourself in various ways-so my Point-dont miss this opportunity if you get a cal from the B-schools.(plus yaar if u ve got a 96% w/o prep then you shouldnt have a problem landing on a job after MBA):) All the best to you!!
I completed my BE(Hons) In EEE in 2007 and have been working for the last 21 months in a leading MNC as a filed applications engineer. I am contemplating quitting my job in the next couple of months so as to prepare for CAT 2009. I had appeared for CAT 2008 without prep and secured 85%ile. I know many would advice against it citing recession as a reason, but isn't an MBA vital for lonf term career progression and isn't an MBA from IIM worth it? Some would also mention about having to convince the interview panel but I guess getting through CAT is the first step. And anyways, if credentials are good I do not think this would prove any hindrance. It is not quite possible to prepare well while I am working as it is quite strenuous. I am seeking some guidenace on this. Is there anyone who has quit his/her job for CAt prep and then gotten into IIM? It would be wonderful to hear from such ppl.

Reading your post i remind of my condition last year, around same time i too make up my mind to go full fledge with CAT 2008 after quitting job. With time my decision become firm. Even i heard a lot why not to quit job and do it along . But i was convince to go with heart and finally by july end i quited my company and started my full preparation for CAT 2008.
I put my best what all i can do. I was in right set of mind to crack it. But thing didn't turn up the way i thought. After seeming CAT estimated percentile, i could not concentrate of on other exam and at the end of day after all exam got over and result were out i was in better place than last year but not in place where i could like to be.
In the end i joined back by previous company, and now learn the some life long lesson.
Lesson 1: Follow your heart, even you fail you will be happy. I am happy today that i do what i feel. I took risk and accepted the result what ever it come.
Lesson 2: CAT is 75% attitude and 25% aptitude.
Lesson 3: CAT is not a reliable exam to put ur career in stake. It has a lot of component of luck.
for you, do what ever you believe but be ready to accepted the result. I hope you do not go through same phase i have been.

I am a Bio-Engineering graduate working in a leading IT firm (as a software engineer ) for over 2 yrs. I had to take the decision of joining this place against my will.... But the brand name and work-ex marks made the offer worth a shot.
Alas, I am not at all satisfied with the nature of work I do here. I do not like being treated like a dumb resource... But I really cant quit and do nothing during this 'recession' I was interested in getting into some good MBA college and plan a better carreer... I had a nack for marketing and was great at social and professional networking... But things are different now. I feel that both my IQ and my lively spirit have diminished at this place.
I appeared for entrance exams ( three years 😞 ) but did not do well due to shortage of preparation time / illness / ill motivation etc. etc. Also this year, I realised that this ugly cyle of filling forms and trying to enter a B-School is not taking me anywhere...
I really really want to do MBA to gain business knowledge and want to have a business of my own at a latter stage...
I am always asked what my carreer interests are... and i really have no answer... what do i do? should i give another shot to my MBA entrance? Or am I just wasting time .. like dogs running behind a car??? :(
i have a dilemma of my own. i am in my 3rd year (6th sem) of my engg and wish to take CAT this year. but the only cause of worry is my acads. it goes something like this:
X:81% XII:64% BTech (uptil now): 6.88 CGPA
do i have any chances whatsoever in IIM or XLRI if i clear the written exams?
I have 2-2.5 months in hand before MBA course starts in June. I was thinking of taking up a job in BPO. Is it feasible to work for such a small duration? How long is generally the notice period in BPOs?

I have 3 months of work ex with infi........ then left due to CAT prep got 5 calls SCMHRD SIBM , IMI REJECTED
IMT G AND UBS awaited
Now I have a job offer by TCS paying me 3.16 lacs joining at TRIVANDRUM
m currently in CHANDIGARH and utilising my time giving coaching for chess and vedic maths.
Should I take UBS IF CONVERTED ? IF NOT, THEN SHOULD I GO TO TCS? what are my chances of conversion in UBS AT 95.91%ile ?
please reply fast as my joining is on 31st march hence just one day left to prepare myself..........
HELP..........HELP ........HELP..........
These days people from top IIMs are not getting jobs what to say about UBS? My take is go for TCS job as long as your sure they are not reverting the offer. These days these IT jobs thats use to be available dime a dozen no longer seem to come so easily. But risk is there that if recession becomes worse TCS will retrench people - trainees will be the first to be shown the door.
I am suresh , my age is 27 yrs and 7 months , I have done BE in 2003 , I have worked in a manufacturing company for 2yrs , a Technical call center for 11 months and in a software testing company for 2 yrs 2months . Recently i was laid off because of non availability of projects .
I want to do Full time MBA as prospects of getting another job in IT field is very low due to recession. i have not given any of the entrance of MBA till now , i only have at present MAT and TANCET , I am also aware that there are only few institutes worth joining ,I am in a complete dilemma . Considering my age .
I would like to ask group members
will there be age criterion after completing MBA in Job selection, considering my limited exp in IT

hi...guy well i am a little bit confused as i am going to MBA world.anybudy can throw light on me that which is better "post graduate programme inmanagement" by some so called Gold & A++ institutes or MBA degree by institute rated A+. some gud institute also provide "post graduate diploma in management" .is this gud?

Take up the job. Enjoy these 2-3 months and stop going to work from the last day of the month (that is if you get the salary on that day). They will not give you the relieving/experience letter for these 2 or 3 months anyway. Just abscond.
