Thanks, Crazycatrax. your post is helpful. As you were working I want to know how many hours do you daily put up for study and have you joined any coaching.

Yes I had taken coaching as i thought it wud impart a certain level of discipline in my preps and help me stay afloat with all the current trends in the paper and also have an idea of the kind of competition i wud face. I went for the classes mainly for those topics in which i was weak or needed more practice. At home dint get much time, tried to squeeze in an hour or 2 at max.... Weekends were a blessing though had to miss some picnics, outings... but practised what I felt was necessary(U get an idea of what to study if u have appeared CAT once or twice or at least from ur mocks...)Attended the mocks inspite of discouraging scores. Analysis helps and dont give up even if u get bad mock scores, i wud say. :)
But this is again all upto u... If u can study by urself, coaching may not be needed.
One important tip :- Fall sick for a few weeks before CAT and avail all ur sick leaves, casual leaves and even unpaid leaves saving a few for the other exams and interviews if u need to fall sick again. Hope u get what i mean ;)
Perseverence is the key. Coz at the end of the day u shud have the satisfaction that u tried ur utmost b4 getting the results π
P.S:Taking a holiday/some time off from work might help you clear your mind and arrive at a well thought out decision.
All the best.
It sure helps afsha . I had done it too π
thank you so much for this post....but plz clarifly my doubt..i.i m a 2009 pass out...wrote cat08...but percentile was insufficient...i have two options to fill my gap

2.a sales executive in maruti dealer....
do u think any of these will add value!!

hi asaru,
I had a friend teaching in a coaching centre and preparing CAT along side. He ended up quitting as he was teaching the same 20 questions to some 9-10 odd batches and learning nothing new in the process. After quitting, he started his preps on a fresh note and made it that year itself.
a sales exective...ummmm.... this might leave u with lesser time to preps but give u an exposure of a particular product's market segment which u can encash in ur interviews...
Work-ex sure helps in developing confidence and a sense of self-identity. Plus u get a financial backup. No matter whatsoever work exp u gather or u decide to not work at all and solely prepare, have a firm conviction for it and convince the interview panel if u get calls.

Hi all,
Can anyone suggest me, which test-series to join:
1) TIME: (i)Basic: 27 tests (including 7 online & 7 paper-based) --> Cost:around 2900/-
(ii)Enhanced: 32 tests --> Cost: around 5500/-
2) CL: Rs. 2750/-
3) IMS: too costly...
PS: I had last year taken full-time TIME coaching & test-series too.
This time, I am planning to join two test-series... so can anyone suggest me on this matter (obviously firs priority is quality & cost factor comes later...)
Thanx in advance!!!

FRNZ PLZ HELP ME.....
Hello all,
i m in confusion, i have given cat 2 times, first when i was in final yr of b.tech and managed to get 94%ile, this boasted my morale and i thought to try it 1 more time. At that time, i had 2 offers in hand, one with Accenture and another with a production company with a bond of 3 yrs, as it was a fertilizer company, matching my profile as a chemical engg, near to home and could give me enuf time to prepare, i decided to join tht company.
Initially, i ws in general shift(8 to 5:30) and sunday off, which ws perfect for my prep for cat 08 so i thought it to be right decision. i started preparing for cat 08 and there was a little pressure in the company to perform but i managed it all with my preparation....but then i started giving my mocks and found that i desperately needed sumone or a group of people with whom i can discuss questions and come to a right conclusion, as it is a factory and situated away from the city it ws not possible to go to coaching in nearby city regularly.
I gave efforts but all in vain as my doubts were still doubts and due to some carelessness it increased....there was no one preparing for cat in the company....i got frustrated but i nvr thought to give up....rarely i got my %iles > 95, it ws demorolising for me as i quit accenture for cat and now this happened.
i gave cat...n found in first half tht i wud not b able to crack it...n i got 92%ile...no calls.
i am still in that company and now i m in shifts( 6 to 2 then 2 to 10 then 10 to 6) and friday off thus cant go for giving mocks on sunday.Pressure has increased manyfolds, sometimes i have to do 16hrs shifts also, no time to think bout cat wen working. but i dont wanna give up.
Right now i have 2 options, either to prepare for cat 09 which is goin online this yr and can prove to be bane for some people, with 5 months to go or to prepare for job in any govt company or any designing company which can give me city location and general shifts with sunday off and any group preparing for cat thus helping my preparation more but it will be cat 10 then.
i have one more option to leave this job and go for full time preparation for cat 09, but then everything will be at stake and i will be more pressurised to perform thus can lead to bad results.
now i dont know wat to do, to start preparing or to wait 1 yr for a good job and then prepare.
Well I believe that GOOGLE search is best way to get to the link directly.
How is the life of software engineer who has done Master of Computer Applications(MCA)?
- Can anyone tell me how would be the life after doing MCA?
- How about the job? Do they get career satisfaction?
- Is it hectic work schedule?
- What about future prospects?
PS:-If you got to choose between MCA and IAS what would you do?

You only have most of your answers. It depends on why really you want to do an MBA right now? If you are glad with your job profile and are even confident on getting another job right now then working would make more sense for you.
If you can think of switch-overs in this market then you should stick to your job. All jobs are hectic but no where it seemed like you hate your job or are unhappy with your profile and work, just that you do not get time to prepare for CAT.
And CAT is not going online, it is just computer based, it wont be a drastic change except one has to solve it on a computer. With 92 %ile you could have got good colleges but it seems you are only targeting the top league colleges.
So prioritize your need, if ur job is good then do not leave, if you want to move on, then focus on an MBA. Besides CAT too there are many other exams which have lowered difficulty levels which you could eye upon and get into good schools.
All the very best
please puys give your opinion on.....

Hi puys!
I'm in a great dilemma! I'm doing BBA Tourism right now(3rd yr about to start) and i'm damn confused on what to do next! I have a bit of a writing flair and was searching for a travel writing course but found none! Then I htought, "Why not go in for Master in Journalism & Mass comm!" but people advised me not to go in for MJMC as it'll be the guys with Graduation degrees in MAss comm who'll be preferred over me..+ it might damage my profile (PCB,then BBA Tourism, and after that MJMC!)
Secondly, i was interested in staying in the tourism field and thus do my PG in a travel & Tourism related course! IITTM, Christ College, etc are some of the colleges i am aiming for! But the thing is that I have no knowledge on what type of jobs will be offered after i do my MBA in Tourism(or MTA), what will be the starting slaaries and the GROWTh prospects! I don't want to be stuck in a tarvel agency with a measly salary(I heard people don't get much pay in the tarvel industry even after MBA..is this true? :-SS)
My third otion is, ofcourse, a normal MBA with specialisation in HR & Finance. I believe this is the safest option for me and if i can make it to a very good college, then i'll surely shun the tourism line. (IS this a correct choice?) I know that the HR field is a very nice option and if i excell in this, it'll be a great line for me. I have only one doubt regarding this option, i.e., I've heard that companies prefer women over men when it comes to HR jobs! Is this true? Agin, what are the starting salaries for HR's?
phew.. π Long question i guess...but i hope to get some answers from moi fellow Puys π ..
I like travelling n would like to continue in this line..BUT...if it doesnt have much growth in salary, then what's the use?
PS: PG Diplomas recog by AICTE quivalent to an MBA..are these really equivalent to MBA's? Are these good for Govt Jobs?
Thanks in Advance..:)

Zain,
One clear message from your post. You like travelling and you like well-paying jobs.
I can't speak specifically about the tourism industry, but in general if you get into a marketing or sales role after an MBA degree, you'll still be able to travel and you'll make decent (to good to fantastic) money depending on your performance i.e meeting sales targets.
If are absolutely sure that tourism is the only way you want to go, then target a focussed degree. However if you want to keep that option route open at least from an academic perspective, a general degree might be a better option.
Give it some more thought.
All the best.
