i am a B.Tech grad and would like to pursue CA along with MBA. I want to join for MBA in 2010. I will write CAT 09. Is it possible for me to write CPT dec 09 and continuw with the course along with full time pgdm? wats the total duration of CA?
Hi to all. I'm totally new to the CAT/CET. I know the basics and then i don't know some.
My backgound:
10th - 63.73%
12th - 56%
B.com ( Banking & Insurance) - 72% ( 5th Sem 69%, Sem 6 75%)
Little to no extra curriculars.
What i need to know is , what chance i hav in GD/PI rounds at colleges like Syndenhams, JBIMS, Welingkars, MET, SIES..the top10 in Mumbai with call centre exp. ?
During PGDM/MMS there are alot of projects, i would specialising in finance- So which colleges encourage finance related proj., as in finanical modelling, valuation and other analysis paralysis stuff.
How much weightage does Final year research projects carry in placements?
Which colleges should i ideally aim for?
Please help me !
I just have one dilemma. I am working in a reputed firm. JOined in June 2008.Gave cat two times. This time i plan to give it a full swing. But with the amount of hectic work pressure i plan to resign in september. About to give my paper this month . so tha i can concentrate on cat from AUGUST onwards. WOuld that prove to be a negativ eimpact during the interview ? i am confused.Someon please help me. But i am desperate enough to give full effort in cracking ccat and gettin into a b school.I am also good in communication skills as i think it is my strength where i can really do well in GD. Also i am writing CAT, XAT JMET IIFT also. But i am confident of scoring well. My only dilemma is ..the interview stage whether quitting the job in this september would be seen as NEGATIVE OR NOT ?
Does anyone knwo any people from the past who have quitted their jobs and gave cat and converted into a b school? Please reply
@first qn- dont think its a negative, but they would surely ask for reasons. See, the competition is tough, and if others can manage cracking the entrance exam while working, you should expect a question on this topic in my opinion.
@second qn- there are people who have done this, but they have also worked on something else as well. Ppl with a finance inclination think of giving a CFA/NCFM (3-4 modules) if they are quitting their jobs...
hope this helps...
does jamunalal bajaj call such candidates who have secured 99 percentile in MAT for GD and PI?
Sorry for posting the same message again but m doin that coz dint get a conclusive reply 4 my 1st post..
Hello puys...Am a 2008 engineering graduate 4m a non IT background n was selected in an IT company as well as a core company 4m my field...I joined the core company(faaaaaaar away 4m my hometown) but had to leave the same after 5 months coz o some personal reasons n cudnt get another gud job after that coz o recession..I started my CAT prep 3 months back..Now i m xpecting joining from this IT company within a month or so..So,m in a dilemma now...
Negatives of joining
1. Being 4m a non IT background,n c n all is alien to me..how hard will it b 2 work in a software firm? This is the biggest confusion...
2. My preparation will definitely suffer(I will have 2 put in xtra efforts even to just survive in the company)
3. There is a bond period.( I don't think this 2 b a big issue vaise...Is it??)
Positives
1. Pressure on D-day will be far less as compared to "CAT yaan berozgaari"
2. Work-ex
3. Learning opportunity
4. Will have a gap of 8,9 months in profile as compared to 15,16 months with a valued experience o working in an MNC...
I am not able 2 frame a clear picture in my mind as to wat 2 do coz o these doubts...i am 70-30 towards joining..Your inputs will b valued...
ambrish bharti Saysdoes jamunalal bajaj call such candidates who have secured 99 percentile in MAT for GD and PI?
In case you wish to get through Jamnalal Bajaj using you MAT score, you need to first get 99.99 in it, else its impossible. Reason being, once you apply using your MAT score, you come under the 15% quota which is outside Maharashtra candidates and if you calculate the no of seats for them, it comes out to be around 17. Even if you get 99.98, your chances reduce by a huge margin and it almost becomes impossible to get through. Also, they only accept Feb MAT scores, and since MAT has been easiest exam amongst all, many give it to get through Jamnalal Bajaj. So prepare accordingly. Hope that answers your query.

I assume time is on your side.
Would suggest you to drop plans for CA and try to get accepted at a top-rung B-School MBA course.
If you do not succeed do not bother, study to get the CFA charter from CFA Institute US.
CFA opens up multiple options including stuffs like "Quant-phynance" and that sould excite a B-Tech.
Best.
Hi frndz,
I am preparing for CAT NOV - 2010. I am currently working in a software company for past 1 year. I am planning to quit my job and prepare full time for MBA and get into a good B-School. I have started my preparations with CAT. I was informed by my friend that he is planning to go for GMAT - as he has started his prepaprations only recently and will not be able to give a full shot for CAT NOV-2009. He also said that he would have to wait for an entire year to give CAT again. By going with GMAT preparations he said he can give his shot by jan or feb (as GMAT is held round the year unlike CAT). He also said that there are good B-Schools that accept GMAT scores.
Now as i have also started my preparations recently i have a dilemma whether to go with CAT wait till next year NOV or instead choose GMAT and give my shot by feb or mar by quitting my job now and get into any top b-school within India. Please guide me which way i can choose as i am planning now to quit my job and start my full time preparations. Also tell me about the comparison between difficulty levels, scope, B-School choice that i can choose from if i go for CAT or GMAT.
I would like that i am not choosy or so specific about getting into IIMs alone. All i want is to get into a pretty good B-School, learn a lot, come out with a pretty decent salary package.
Also i would like to hear some useful suggestions from you. Thanks.

Hey dude, how are ya??

Basically let me tell you, first of all that GMAT is mainly used to pursue a MBA abroad by most students. Though NRI's can also take it to pursue MBA in India.
As per your post, I suppose you want to pursue MBA in India itself. So via GMAT, there are very few good Bschools in India, which you can get admission in. Check the various websites for more information.
Some of the prominent Institutions in India to accept GMAT scores, are ISB, Hyderabad, and GLIM, Chennai. Though both of these require Work Experience(preferably at least 2-3 years).
But judging by your situation, I think CAT will be your best bet. Some of the main differences between the 2 exams are:-
1) CAT has a much higher difficulty level in QA, then the GMAT. Basically the sums asked in GMAT, can be solved by a schoolkid. For CAT, you need loads of preparation, and a definite strategy.
2) You can self study for GMAT, and still score quite high, just by following a few guides. Whereas for CAT, you will probably need to enroll yourself in a coaching center, give loads of mock tests, and do lots of planning.
3) By GMAT, you can get into a variety of good colleges abroad(not applicable to your case, I suppose), even if your score is not very high. But if you want to get into a good Bschool for CAT, you need to score quite high(basically quite a high level of competition).
So basically, in short, CAT is a much tougher and competitive exam than GMAT, and need careful planning and execution. But most top Bschools do not desire mandatory Work Experience via CAT. But by GMAT, Work experience is compulsory. There are other differences which you can find out on your own. :)
Besides, I would like to say, 'Why limit yourself to CAT? Especially cause IIMs are not your only destination.'
There are other MBA exams too, XAT, JMET, SNAP, IIFT, FMS, to name a few. I would strongly recommend you appear for all of these. And most have a similar pattern of syllabus. Its not that you have to prepare separately for all.
Anyways, decide after you think over this carefully. Discuss each aspect with your friends. :)
All the best...

For Quantitative finance, you need to do a CQF or a MFE , not a CFA. More info on Quant finance can be found here

Hello people
I need to ask that what are the requisites for a NGO work experience to be counted as valid??
Hello Friends
I have an experience of 7 years in software industry and I am planning to do my MBA in the next couple of years.
At this juncture, I have to make a decision and I thought of getting suggestions from people who have done their MBA from top B Schools as it would help me a lot.
I have two options. I can either choose to stay in a technical path or move to managerial track at this point. Here are the two options with the pros and cons.
Can you please share your thoughts and which would help me in getting an entry into top B school and post MBA as well.
Technical Path
Pros: Very responsible (technical) position , International Exposure, May involve in product strategy.
Cons: A lesser known company, Only technical work, No client interaction, May not have chance to move into management path.
Managerial Path
Pros: Management position (line manager), Client Interaction, Well known company.
Cons: No International Exposure, May not be a key position.
My ambition is to complete MBA from top B school and later get into key management positions (like the delivery manager, director or such similar posts)
Thanks
Work Ex Background: Software tester, 3.8 years of exp.
Got into s/w testing after B.Sc & then started MCA through distance mode.
I'm really not in a position to quit job for a regular MBA and hence planning to pursue MBA through part-time/weekend.
I recently came to know about the E-MBA from SIBM - Bangalore & Manipal University (corporate programs). How good is E-MBA from Manipal University (corporate programs) / SIBM? Does any one here know about this program?
Guys, please do help me out to find a good Institute / University in Bangalore which offers a part-time MBA.
Thanks in advance.
I am currently studying BMS. I wish to pursue fashion designing as a hobby plus im currently taking classes for CAT '10. Should i do an MBA in fashion designing or should I complete my MBA in HR and do a 1 yr diploma after my MBA? Would not taking up a job after MBA ruin my job prospects?
Hi everybody,
i am 31 yrs old . i did my BE in 99 and wasted 1 year and then did PGDM from IIFT 2 yr fulltime in marketing. after that i have 6.5 yrs of work ex in financial services and right now i am unemployed from last 4 months due to recession and i am not getting job profile as well as that fat salary package anywhere.
I am thinking of doing second MBA from ISB or IIMA- PGPX.
pls suggest :
1. Is my step right?
2. when shall i give GMAT?
3. When shall i start preparing about the same.
I am a B.E. I had given CET this yr and have got Rizvi. But i want to secure admsn in top 5 colleges. However the problem is that I am 29 yrs old. If i wait for another yr i will be 30yrs. By the time I pass out I will be 32yrs.I wanted to know How much impact does ones age has at the time of placements. I do have 3 yrs work ex but i dont think that wud count 4 much as I was working in a call centre. So that makes me a fresher. So I think a company wud prefer a 24yr old fresher rather than a 32yr old fresher. Sir, can u please help me out. I am very confused whether to take admsn or wait for a yr. What wud be your advice. Can any 1 please guide me?

May I know why you want to take up HR. I am considering that fact that you are in a creative field and want to move into a non-adjacent administrative field. Can it have anything to do with it being a soft vocation? Please don't get me wrong - but do get these things sorted out.

Those are very trenchant observations about CAT my friend. I can't agree more that you need some level of formal coaching to crack it unless ofcourse you are Mensa material.
