Hi,
Came across this thread outta shear serendipity.. I have a few queries (pardon me if my perception of few is way out of tune), but first my profile... Have 4 years and 8 months exp as of today and have been working with a reputed IT MNC for the last 3 years and am currently drawing an annual salary of about 6.5 Lacks. . Am managing a team currently. Gave CAT last ye ar got 98.3 % (No Calls).. Also applied to SPJ 1 year course but couldn't convert... The way things are going this year am pretty confident of cracking the CAT...
1. With my years of exp which all are the institutes that I should be applying to, keeping in mind the ROI and lateral placements? I have already applied to IIM's & XLRI (GMP n BM )... & Should i apply for SPJ & MDI flagship courses ?
2. Advertising is a field that interests me a lot.. Is pursuing an MBA from MICA worth it ??
3. Should I apply for ISB, round 2 ?. I know a guy who is in the current batch & after getting to know about the placements scene am shit scared... somehow i feel that 20 lacks is too big an investment to take an emotional risk with...
4. How good is the GMP program of Xlri ? and also the 1 year course of Great Lakes ?
5. Any other 1 year Exec course that I'm missing ??
Guess tht will be it for now :)

Hello everybody,
I'm a mechanical engineer 2009 passout and for the past 3 months i have been working in a national level coaching insti for IIT JEE. My designation is maths faculty and my salary is 6 lpa.
I have managed to secure a job offer from NTPC and my joining is scheduled on 9th oct.
I do not wish to take the above offer as i am more keen to get into some good B school this year. NTPC has a bond of 3 yrs and they'll extact a hefty sum if i leave in between.
I would like to know that will my current work as a full time teacher at a reputed organisation be given due weightage during my mba admission or will a psu job make things easier for me.

I will say continue with ur current job....company name is not going to make a big difference when ur work ex will be counted. Also the bond is a big risk. So continue as a faculty and concentrate on the CAT...

well, here is my profile which i have messd up BIG TYM...!!
i did my XII in 2005 nd took up b.sc... but dint find it of any use at all, so took up hotel mngmnt next year... now this turned out to be worse dan b.sc, so foolish me reverted back to b.sc..!!! hence, a 1 year gap... next i helped myself by failing my b.sc 2nd yr exams... so, a 2 year gap!
m finally in my final yr nw and appearing for cat'09. m managing decent percentiles in my mocks-- 95-96%. i might get a good cat score but m really scared dat my profile will hamper my chances of getting into a good b- school.
m really short of options as with my profile i cant even manage an OK JOB.
so mba seems to be the only way to cleanse my past sins....now wat do i do?? and what do i expect..??? i dont even know which forms 2 fill with such a profile..!!!
plz help... m having sleepless nights...!!!!
I can empathize with your situation. But I will be honest your profile is not up there for selection in the better B-Schools. So you must redeem it by doing some very offbeat and unconventional things. Get some feathers in your cap - learn Spanish, climb a mountain peak or try getting your writing published. There are a myriad different ways in which you can distinguish yourself if you are really as determined as you sound. So Stand out and Stand Tall!

hello everyone.
i think that i am the most confused puy ever born.
here goes my profile:
Class X- 82%
Class XII - 72%
1 yr. gap for AIEEE preparation.
Right now in Govt. Engg. College, Ajmer (Computer Engg.)
Current agg.- 61% (in 7th sem right now)
Most likely overall engg. avg (after 8th sem result)- 63% (i know it wont cross the 65% mark)
preparing for cat '09 for the last 1.5 months (only). mock scores not worth telling.
so... my problem must be pretty clear..... IT industry is down - no jobs. and it does not look like that i will crack the CAT this yr.. I am really confused abt my future. Dont wanna do M.Tech . I m sure that i can bell the cat, but i need some time...... just 3 months (as of cat '09) is too short (that too with all that final yr. engg. madness going on).
i have already taken an acad gap for AIEEE preparation. as far as i think, taking one more will just make my already bad profile, worse .
Please help out..... (i have heard that everyone gets noticed here)
hello everyone,
I have completed my B.E in computer science in 2009 and am currently working for an I.T. company in kolkata. I had got placed in TCS but could nt join because i am color blind. I am preparing for CAT this year . I wanted to know if there is medical tests(color blindness tests especially) done even for Managerial posts in most companies. I know for sure that some companies like
TVS,TATA Motors test for color blindness for engg. graduates. Do these companies also do color blindness tests for people joining at managerial posts? Kindly reply to my query as this will be of great help for my future studis.
Hi Puys,
Am new to this place... and obviously am here for your help...
Am a B.Com graduate.
Work Ex as head cashier for 2 years ( Private Bank)
I lost my job recently due to the recession. Now you must be knowing my situation. Am totally discombobulated, perplexed .... Not in a mind set to take any competitive exams... Still am planing to do MBA. Since the cat is the toughest exam I don't think I could crack it this year. How about MAT? and the schools accepting the MAT score? How long a period is required for an average guy to prepare well for the MAT? Would you suggest me to take any other exams too??
Am badly in need of your suggestion.

This is my profile.
X: 86.26 %
XII: 88.00%
Both from maharashtra state board.
Presently I'm in second year of my engineering from pune university.
Scored somewhere close to 55% in my first year with one backlog :((
Can you tell me, if I manage to crack CAT with a good score, will my graduation marks cause much of a hindrance inspite of my X and XII score being agreeably good?
I'm really hating this technical studies.
And yes, what percentage in graduation is considered decent if Pune Univ. is taken into picture?
Which IIMs consider graduation score in their selection procedure and which ones don't?

hi Rootzzzz
Not all iims give calls on the basis of acads. Having said that, the criteria for the calls varies from year to year so nothing can be generalized about any iim. Just FYI last year IIMC-PGDBM, IIMI and if i m not wrong then IIMK were the ones who gave calls solely on the basis of the individual's CAT %ile. Also those iims or for that matter other premier B-schools who do consider acads as one of their criterion for giving the calls have their weightage of consideration of acads distributed over SSC,HSC and grad %ages, so that shud not affect your chances of getting the calls much. But as you are still in your 2nd year I would suggest you to try to make your aggregate %age equal to or above 60% so that you are eligible for taking the entrance exams like JMET, who have their minm eligibility criteria as 60%.
i hope it helps. ATB!!!

SUB: Query regarding part-time MBA.
Guys,
I have around 3.5 yrs exp in a reputed MNC in software field. Doing good at job and want to continue in the same org in management path. So am looking for good part-time management course which has value and not just some certificate course. Am aware of PGSEM from IIMB, wanted to know if there are any other such courses from other management schools ( weekend classes at bangalore). I am considering taking GMAT by the score of which I can apply for PGSEM and other such courses in coming year.
Appreciate any suggetions/guidance/feedback in this regard.
Thanks in Advance!
Hello, I have a question: I've completed my graduation in 2008 and I'm pursuing a one-year post-graduate diploma in supply-chain management (distance) from symbiosis. Can I put this in the master's degree section of the form or should it be left out? Please help me out with this as I'm very confused and can't find any definitive answers to this.
