please help
Hi!!!
I am in a state of dilemma right now. I have given CAT 2009 with no hopes of a convert now. I am planning to give CAT 2010 but i have not got a job in hand.
I have completed my mech engg in 2009 and have work ex of 8 months in a mech company. Now the prob is dat if join a mech company then i will have to slog 4 10-12 hrs a day and i will be left with very little time 4 my cat preparation. so i am thinking of joining a bpo so dat i get time 4 my preparation. But i am worried dat bpo exp won't be count in top MBA institutes and also more importantly they will grill me on why bpo after mech engg. can I say in my interview dat I wanted time 4 my prep that's why I joined BPO and also I have improved my communication skills.
plz advice me which will be a better option 4 me.my cat 09 %ile is 91.33.
It wudnt be right to say that u needed time for preparation so u joined bpo....
This season has been worst for me i am planning to go for cat 2010.My query is i am fresher pass out in 2009 with no work exp and my academics is on negative side.I vacillating between 1 year diploma from university which is related to domain which i am planning to opt in MBA or Find a job.But when I introspect i think i can't do my prep and job together my query is whether 1 year diploma or 8 month work exp will be better considering my poor academics

You can try for MBA with specialization in operations. As far as I knw, apart from IIMs you should try for MBAs from IITs as they have world famous faculties in Operations... NITIE is also known as a very very good option if you want to pursue a career in SCM ..

My suggestion would be prepare hard for CAT , get into a TOP Bschool ( IIMs, IITs , NITIE etc. ) and then it would surely open multiple doors for you to pursue you career in your interested field

Answer these two questions:
1) What is that that you are looking from from an MBA? What will MBA give you?
2) If I give you a choice today, between your present job and doing what your sales and marketing/business development/HR guys do, which one will you choose?
An MBA is any day worth it, but so is an MS. Depends on what your aptitude is for. I know lot of people, who have done an MBA, but they would have been much happier if they had done an MS or PhD.
Think carefully. Speak to your peers, superiors, your friends. Decide and then take the plunge.

When you got calls SIIB, GIM and not converted, how can you say they rejected because of work experience?? Did they tell you that???
There are many people with work-ex rejected in these and many without work ex not selected!
Yes, you do get some advantage of quality work-ex but once you get a call, good GD PI is all where you have to improve upon.
Also dont feel bad and useless in being rejected. I am also rejected 7 times this year out of 7 (0% conversion rate). I know people getting calls from 5 IIMs and rejected in all. It is part of MBA Life!

Thats a new one. First time heard someone got rejected cos of no Work Experience. Were you given a feedback after the interviews or is that your inference?
You are a final year BCA student. When are the placements in your college? Sit for them.
Marketing or IT...........both are fine according to me. As long as you can showcase some tangible result at the end of one year.
All the best.

you are doing engineering already. Why not complete it? You are only in your second year. Go ahead and complete it first.

Hello,
I am Varun from Delhi. I am currently preparing for my boards commencing from 4th march 2010.
I want to do MBA, I have some questions:-
Suggest some colleges for graduation as i am interested in doing MBA.
So, Which are the best colleges in Delhi for BBA ?
kindly guide me.
Thanks
even though i don't hav any clue about delhi colleges, i want to giv u an advice.
instead of BBA go for BA(Hons) Economics or B.Com (Hons) from the best college you can get into typically some DU college.
there's no harm in going for BBA but it will be a waste since the course is similar to MBA and u'll end up studying the same things all over again during your MBA like finance, marketing, HR etc. it is better to gain some solid knowledge in economics or commerce. most of the non-engineers junta in top b-schools are either Bcom or BA eco or some other traditional stream.
maybe the b-skool guys hav a slight bias towards traditional studies but thats only my personal opinion. in the end, its your life n your career so the decision is yours. cheers

Hi puys!!...

Hi puys!
My third otion is, ofcourse, a normal MBA with specialisation in HR & Finance. I believe this is the safest option for me and if i can make it to a very good college, then i'll surely shun the tourism line. (IS this a correct choice?) I know that the HR field is a very nice option and if i excell in this, it'll be a great line for me. I have only one doubt regarding this option, i.e., I've heard that companies prefer women over men when it comes to HR jobs!
Says who??
Is this true? Agin, what are the starting salaries for HR's?
Good enough for Roti, Kapda and Makaan.....depends on company and role.

Okay. Maybe. I am not sure about this.
But still, like I already said, it doesnt matter whether you do marketing or IT. The advantage of the marketing job will be that you will have differentiated yourself before the panel, as majority of the other candidates will come from an IT background. But then IT will give you time to prepare, which marketing wont.
Take a call.
