I am a BSc lifescience graduate.I plan to do MBA next.If i manage to clear the entrance tests, will i face difficulty in interview process?(i am talking abt top B schools in INDIA)like, what will i answer them if they ask me why i shifted to MBA?(i can't surely state to settle early in life )
If i get selected to a B-School even then, will i face difficulty keeping up with the course? For a student who does not know the Basics of management, will he/she will be able to be on par with their peers?
Lastly, myself being a lifescience graduate will have any effect in the placement process in the end of MBA?
Please give truthful answers and thanks in advance
well,i am bit confused.
I am Computer Info Tech Graduate (of management faculty) and lot in web programming(4 years) and have a business as well.
Now i am planning to pursue my masters in usa,so i am totally stumped...either i should do MS (computer) or MBA?
I found have MBA
-more competition to get admission and even to get scholarships.
-more expensive than MS
-I found GRE much easy to tackle than GMAT....(even in verbal seems like 3500 words will be quite good...but in GMAT though they say its easy too vauge scope of question banks makes it difficult i guess...)
So, am i right in conclusing so?

Hey nice to c a life sc graduate on PG as i m also a life sc graduate.
There r a lot of students in b-sculs with a science background. You have to be true before the interview panel as if y do u want to pursue MBA after B.Sc life sc.
Dont worry about all these things right now. For answering in a interview you need to first clear a entrance exam.
I hope i have answered your questions.
All the best..
I posted this earlier also please someone help me....
BACKGROUND
i finished my engg last june...
didnt sit for campus placements...
last time had 98 percentile in cat, 97 in xat, 200 in fms (cutoff 220)...
but cudnt get a collg of my choice..
1 yr later i.e this time:
i had both xlri calls 99.22 pecentile (rejected)
.....iit delhi call...(awaiting results)
299 in fms (scores released)...
cat....u know wt happened to cat results this time...
PROBLEM
now u guys can see i have already wasted 1 good yr and droppin another yr is not at all a good idea....
assuming that i dont get selected in iit delhi...
i have only 1 place to go....icici po....
so i can earn some work ex and then take mba exams later...
but the problem is...
icici po has a training period of 1 yr....which i think is not counted as work-ex...(so anothr yr wasted) (Will that year be counted in WORK-EX???)
now after that some knowledeable person please tell me:
1) working environment around an icici po...i mean timings...amount of work..
nature of work (some say icici po is bullshit sales work) and will i get any time to prepare for mba exams...
2)salary is reported to be 3.6 lpa CTC...but what bout inhand component...some say its around 15000 (1.8 lpa)
i badly need to support my family....
3)future prospects....as an icici po...at what intervals they get promoted and upto what level/position can they rise...are there any in-company exams to promote po's to senior levels...what is the general career path of an icici bank po...and salaries at these various general levels...
please friends...unbiased and true info wud help this soul no end...
i can then take an informed decision to either go wid icici po or a jobhunt elsewhere...
please help....

If you are a national level player, and you have certificates for it, there will be points for that which will offset the loss in your acads.
You have less that 70% in your 12th, looking at this years call track record, I am not very sure that you would have got a call from A/B/C.
But saying this, if you get a percentile above 98, and with your sports record, you should crack a top b-school.
All the best.

IIM C, as per my knowledge, does not put emphasis on acads, and didn't keep any restrictions this year too. People who had failed a year in graduation have made it to C too.

Leaving the interview issues aside, will i be able to cope up with the management course with absolutely NO idea abt management?(however, i have a 90+% record in degree)? i would be glad if u give me an account of your adjustment into MBA.THANKS in advance.

sir one more question i would like to ask is
my quant is fair enough but when it comes to VA...
too tough for me...i am reading editorial and novels from around 4 months but have not encountered much change...
the problem is in recalling stage in RC's....

please recommend me some trick to overcome that...
I am currently doing my M.Com, i have just completed the 1st yr and will complete my M.Com Final yr in April 2011. I appeared for CAT 2008 - 89 %ile, and CAT 2009 - 92 %ile. I have decided to go in for CAT 2010.
I would like your advice on whether I should take up a job along with my M.Com this year, to gain work experience, as I have heard that work experience gives quite a lot of weightage. Or should I just focus on my M.Com at the moment?
I'm asking this question from the perspective of my GD PI processes next year. When I'm asked about my educational background would it be ok if I said I did my M.Com, or would it be better if I had some work exp in hand?
Thanks.

You are doing M.COM. Why you took CAT then? Are you not happy with that or you do not have clear vision what you want to do?
This will be the question you will be facing in GDPI. If you find any logical answer, you will get answer to your query...

work exp is always good..
it surely helps in converting d call..
but work exp is always full time..
not vid study..
while doing m.com if u do a job it wont b given much preferrence
@blackwarrior... If u r doin correspondence m com... Do get work exp... U have good marks in CAT... and being from commerce side, will give u a better chance to get into good b school...

@avinav ... ha ha... Yup i know... But sometimes wat happens, the posts are so big.. It wastes the space on thread needlessly... So i do that... 😃
When I finished 12th i was a complete biotech enthusiast...took admission in Btech Biotech...n loved it...
Reaching d 4th sem at colg...it ws time for me to decide whether i wanna get into R&D; or not.....I carefully chose all my training projects and tried wid full dedication....ws one of top scorers and had a gud practical hand too..bt my heart ws nvr into it...
First placement week at colg...3rd yr...recession hit us all n no biotech firms came to campus...only IT firms wid life science dept offers came...Sat for d first company jst to try my luck...n got selected...thx to my interest in c/c++...ws elated...so wr my folks...
The week ended with only 20% of my batch gettin placed...As d market condition worsened d placement cell decided to apply 'one student one offer' formula till evry student had an offer...So nw i had to stick to dis company n i cnt sit for any further companies visitin campus...
:banghead::banghead::banghead:
[Still dealing wid d fight inside my mind whether to go for R&D; or management...]
End of final yr [2009 passout]...By dis time had decided to go for mba...thot of gettin sm work ex b4 tht but no joinin information frm my company...so started lookin for jobs...bt cudnt find any better options than medical reps[ Why do biotec/pharma companies treat freshers as untouchables???
Started preparing for CAT in July...tried to manage studies wid job but d time ws too less...N i got avg scores in all exams...
Along wid tht i gave ICICI-PO program exam jst for experience[ and becoz d form ws free ]...cleared tht...they hv a tieup wid manipal academy...giv 1 yr mba in bankin...n thn absorb all students at asst mgr posts...thr is a 3 yr bond too...may seem a grt idea to those interested in pursuing fin...bt mine is a diff story altogether...
Current Scenario:
-NO CALLS - hv a few avg colg calls...nt interested to join thm..
-NO JOB - i hv learnt all tht i cud from my present work place n thr is no scope of growth...n its time to leave..
-ICICI offer...which my folks r forcing me to join[silly concept - bank jobs r gud for girls]...bt i dnt want to becoz it wil ruin my hr interest...
The steps i take only for fun end up defining my career path....

ANY SUGGESTIONS...??

PS: My first post at pagalguy...plz bear wid d long post...
