Gosh! I was looking for such a thread for a long time.. I am in my final year of Engineering from Pune. I have been offered campus recruitment to L&T;(core), Powai, with a package of 3.35 lacs. I have also converted FMS(MS) program this year. Another twist : I've also done well in GATE and have a call for Aerospace structures from IIT Bombay. To be extremely honest, I do not still know if I am inclined towards technical side or no. At the same time, I do not know if I would be able to convert FMS or any top B school next year with CAT bringing in the acads factor( and the ONLINE LUCK factor:D)
I am honestly in no position to decide. L&T; is giving me a chance to work on the Mumbai monorail project, one of the most prestigious projects in India now. A the same time IIt beckons ome as i could not make it there for my B.Tech degree. and FMS is certainly a dream coll but i do not know if I should leave it until next yr or no..
PLS help..

You have a happy problem so to say 😃 Problem of plenty 😁 Since you have so many good offers, the best possible way is to prioritize your options. Now this can't be answered by anyone apart from your own self. You need to think which do you want most at this point of time - is it the job, or IIT or FMS??
Also if you can, think a bit ahead, as to which field you would want to work in? Is it the normal technical stuff (L&T;), is it R&D; (IIT) or is it some managerial position (FMS)? Just sit back, introspect for a couple of days, you'll get your true calling 😃 But yes, you'll ultimately have to give up some or the other good option, you can't have everything :)
All the best
Hey

guys i need ur advice for my query....pls help with ur valuable suggestions
jhkaas SaysSatwinder, Thanx for your reply ,but it's like CAT is my 1st preference, then GMAT and then GRE ,so, I intend to take all three. So,please anyone suggest me should I cram wordlists to be able to take GRE/GMAT in aug2010 in addition to CAT in dec 2010 or should I simply take CAT (thus not wasting time on wordlist) this yr and postpone GRE/GMAT to next yr?
You have stated that CAT is your first preference..

Personally, I feel that the second choice will be a better option since you will get ample time to prepare properly for GRE/GMAT later.
Of course you can certainly give all 3 exams in the same year, and its quite possible to manage all 3, but it May get hectic. :wow:
And for CAT you have to give extra focus, esp on Quant. Compared to that GRE/GMAT Quant is of lower difficulty standards.

I believe that since CAT is your first preference, you should give your entire focus on it, since you will be facing tremendous competition. However the final decision is yours. If you feel you can manage your entire CAT preparation along with GRE and GMAT, go for it. But whatever you do, make a definite plan of your future goals before that. All the best..

Don't think there would be a problem, because you can easily say that you got your joining late, and nowadays companies are doing it quite often. So if you want to go for an MBA now, prepare for it wholeheartedly and don't worry about the gap.
However, in case you want to work for two years before appearing for CAT, even that is fine. Depends on when you want to go for an MBA. Don't think about the gap too much.
Hello friends, I m currently in 2nd year of my B.Tech. Because of my strong hold in web technologies, i m offered a job with flexible timings(do work as per my wish, bt be a regular employee ). When i will graduate , I will be having about 2 years of experience, will that be of any importance , if i plan to do MBA aftr that?. In this job, salary is project linked. Better the project, more the money i get.So, I will not be able to produce constant salary slips. If i produce offer letter & certi from employee that I worked as Consultant for the company for X months, will that do???? . I m also planning for a startup, very soon, but that needs lot of my attention & dedication, but how will i certify all these things to MBA institutes ... & above all... will i get any weightage coz such experience?
Unfortunately MBA institutes insist on post studies full time work experience. So I think your experience will not be considered as work-ex per se (especially at the shortlisting for interview stage) . But you can use this experience to gain a weightage during the interview et al.
sir plzzzzzzzzzzzzzz answer my query i request u.....
hello evryone....moderators , puys and evryone well experienced than me plzz help me out with this demon who keeps haunting me...
actually i have been a good student ryt from the childhood gettin 89 % in class x nd 81 % in class xii but during my graduation days i.e BBA i met with a very bad accident and could manage only 58 % marks....
now i have managed to apply for a seat in symbi under management quota....i want to ask that sum ppl tell me that because of my low marks 58 % in BBA i will not be able to get a decent placement as companies want 60 %....
i am really depressed coz of this and as the fee is also quite high around 18 lakhs i am confused dat will i b able to get a good placement after putting in so much money....do companies dont recruit second divisiomners at all....
i am really worried plz suggest me wat do i do.....
No there is nothing to be afraid of........everyone has their own ups and downs in their careers.....U have a valid n stubborn reason for ur downturn in ur career......u said that u were a gud student and u got that scores with ur hard work......All that u need to know is hard work will always help u to achieve greater heights in ur career.........
even in my interview interviewer asked me why I have got lesser grades in my engg......But I convinced them vth my words....Its all about ur attitude........ur MBA study vl surely make u learn these tactics....
Dont be scared..........Go vth full strength and try ur best to get placed....
All d best dude
Hi puys,
I am currently in the last year of BE. I am planning to do an MBA next year. I thus have an entire year at spare. I wish to do some kind of short certification course related to marketing. Distance learning will be great. Certification should help me at least get some kind of internship in the same field. I basically want to improve my profile when i apply to MBA colleges next year. Any suggestions are welcome. Thank you.
Hi Puys,
How much value does the 'CIM' certification adds to a marketing guy and does it help in terms of knowledge as well ?

rather than certification it would b far better if u look 4 a job
i am already placed in TCS. But i am interested in doing something which will be relevant. I don't think i ll get a job in marketing with the background of a software engineer. And that too for just a year doesn't make sense.
i came across iACT global certification course. They are providing e-learning in various management programmes. Any reviews?
i want to pursue a "1 year diploma in financial management and banking " from NMIMS school of distance learning (just for the sake of learning and some useful utilization of time) basically i am preparing for bank po exams (started 2 to 3 months ago) , what say puys will the course be effective for knowlege puprose?

sorry to interrupt but what i feel is that if we are willing to do mba in finance then a bank po job hold more relevance than a general graduate point of view (means who are not specialists like engineers, doctors, chartered accountants etc)

i agree ... u should enhance ur profile with a job ..
Work-ex matters a lot. If all after work u get enough time to study then go for a relevant certification toa add value to ur resume ..
Thanks,
Vivek

Bank PO for sure .. AS it gives a post equivalent to "Assistant Manager" and it will give u experience in managerial field and hence more relevant to MBA.
Also,IT profile is too common to stand a chance for final call convert particularly at iims
