@ashmole2009 ohk.. but my experience by then would be 4-5 yrs approx.. wont that be a bit too much ?..
You should ideally have 5 years work experience when pursuing an MBA. It is unfortunate that the majority of students in the PGPM's have little work experience.
@ashmole2009 5 years? don't you think-considering the Indian system- that 60 months of experience is little too much, esp for fields such as Marketing and IT ?

What is the point of finishing your undergrad and doing an MBA straight away? People need to work in the real world, and you need to excel to an extent in your chosen career post undergrad before switching to another career. You'll hardly accomplish anything in 2-3 years.
People are fools if they, for example do an engineering degree, and don't actually want to be an engineer for a few years. Shows lack of research and career aims.
I always knew I wanted to work in a bank, so I studied Economics. Post graduation I worked in Global Markets where my knowledge of Economics certainly helped me.

i am in personal dilemma whether i should go for SIOM-MBA OPN management

here is my profile:-
10th :- 72%
12th:- 51%
Grads:- 64.89%(Metallurgy engg.)
SIOM Verdict:- Selected

i am working in STEEL MNC and have work ex of 3.3 years of core operations.

i am interested in Operations management especially SCM.

I have seen SIOM is not in ranking anywhere and reasons are certain. no matter.

now the dilemma is i will be quitting job and joining siom.

also my 12th marks are also below average so i suppose it will also be a hurdle.

kindly suggest what to do..

Thanks...

@ashmole2009 ok, firstly my point is not to do an MBA right after graduation, but a 2 yrs exp for me should suffice. Secondly, the age when one decides if he/she wants to persue engineering is around 14/15 or even 16/17 to be modest, which is too less to gauge his abilities, likings and interest and to streamline it into his/her career interests. Hence I dont consider graduation as a limiting factor for a stream change, to be specific here, an MBA, do you?

I've got nothing more to add. The mentality in India is to study, study, study and it's going to stay that way it seems.

can somebody pls help
@skyruler SIOM carries Symbios brand name and since you want to go into operations, this college would suit you well.
Since you already have 3.3 years of experience and average acads, it is better to grab this opportunity than to wait for next year - if at all you want to do an MBA.

As per your query I have the following suggestions:

1. Ask yourself if you really want to do an MBA
2. If yes, then join now since next year would be too late
3. If no, then let the life go on the way it was earlier. No need to join the herd.

Cheers!

Hii
This seems like a biggest dilemma of my life.

First a bit abt my profile :
1. Acads- X:-92%, XII- 89%, Grad CGPA - 5.9 (Electrical engg from a prestigious colg in Mumbai)
2. Work Ex- Siemens, 32 months (as on today)
3. Season-2012 CAT 89%le, XAT-91%le, SNAP-88%le, CMAT- anticipated.
Only convert- SIOM.
So now i have 2 plans.
Plan A- Join SIOM, use my ' RELEVANT' work ex., get MBA, live peacefully.
Seems like a kewl idea, but somewhere inside, i have a feeling i should give another try.
Hence, Plan B- Give another try at CAT,XAT and convert a biggie.....

Now comes the dilemma.
Today i am having a work ex of 32 months.
Lets assume that i get into a top college next year. By the time i go for a full time xourse, the experience will be almost 48 months.

So my sincere request to seniors to guide me and give frank opinion.
1. After working for 4 years, is it advisable to go for a full time MBA
2. How much counter productive can such a huge workex be seen

Your reply will have some effect on the decision that i take.

@gaurav21 If you choose not to join SIOM, work for a couple of more years and do a 1 year MBA from India or an MBA abroad.

Exec. MBA is always on the card...

My query is reg. full time 2 yr MBa
@gaurav21 Dude I know what your thinking.. That you will be older than most people in your batch .. but dude you have to even see the positive side of it.. you'l be the most experience among st your peers. I have 31 months of work ex and scored 93.5 in cat this year.. It was my first attempt. Gave CMAT too for the first time.. Expecting a sure shot call from KJ and sydhnem.. JBIMS is a little dicely..
If I dont get into this year.. will surely give an attempt next year.. Ive seen many profiles in IIMs , JB and SPJIMR.. and there are ppl with close to 40-50 months of work-ex..
Also I personally am thinking long term.. In the long run an MBA degree will certainly be an advantage in a country like ours where skilled people are abundant.... Also abt an executive MBA.. unless your at a managerial post already.. you will not be entertained at institutes like XLRI and IIM A B C for an executive MBA...

My advice would be give it one last shot.. if you cant convert next year.. Quit.

What value add will a degree from SIOM give you? You'll get a placement package that is probably the same to your pre-MBA salary.
Try again, if not sit the GMAT and do a 1 year MBA.
