@ajaygovindg@visionIIM-ACLHey, i am working in TCS for the past 16 months. Got 98.2 %ile in Cat this year and was shortlisted for NMIMS also(99.5 %ile). In race for 6 new iims, imt ghzbd, imi delhi , delhi school of economics. Though there is still some time left in final results, but the thing is that i have also got Income tax inspector post (around 40k per month) in Delhi. I will def go for newer iims in case i convert any of them. If otherwise, please suggest that should i go for mba from colleges like nmims, imt, imi, dse or should i go for that job in income tax dept. ?.. actually 1 factor is that these colleges do not have an exceptionally good scenario when it comes to placements..and will cost me around 15 lacs for 2 yrs.. compiled with around 10-12 lacs that i will get in the job at income tax for the coming 2 years... so the money difference is huge... Also, just in case, after 1-2 years of work ex in income tax, if i decide to go for mba then, should that be considered a relevant work exp..??...Can i go for Cat and maybe even Gmat later on with the mix work ex of Pvt. and public sector ??..
P.S.- to be honest, at present i dont have any motivation for doing mba apart from the hefty packages..
Take that Income tax position man, that sounds like quite a cool job!
Do an MBA after you've worked in that job for a few years. These "hefty" jobs you speak about are only offered to a select few, especially at the new IIMs. The figures you see quoted in the reports are CTC's, in hand you won't really get more than 70 k per month unless you're exceptional.
@ashmole2009 thats where i have doubts.. as that will be the work ex of public sector.. will it be considered ??.. after 2 yrs, i will have a work ex of 4yrs.. can i go for cat/gmat with that work ex ?..
hello puys... I've given CAT 2012 but could not get good score. So, I want to prepare once again for it. I'm BE IT 2012 passout. I started preparation for CAT as I came out of my college. I need a job now to carry on the preparation of CAT 2013. I feel that it will be difficult for me to get a technical job immediately because i have lost touch with my technical subjects and it'll take some time to brush them up. I'm thinking about joining some bpo(voice or non-voice). Will working in bpo hamper my chances of getting into a good MBA college? This is my concern. secondly, what kind of job is there in voice and non-voice bpo? What is the difference b/w the two?
An MBA is the standard in business education. In all major countries except India you need 2-3 years + work experience to be eligible for admissions, though the average is 5+.There must be a reason why all the leading MBA's globally want an extremely diverse cohort. If Harvard thought along the same lines as the Indian Business Schools then it's entire intake would be Front Office bankers/ Strategic Consultants (using IB/Strat Consul. as an example as it attracts the brightest just how the majority of the brighest fresh graduates work in the IT sector in India), but it doesn't.
An MBA could be the standard in business education but it may not have a standard format across the world .. what you said is something different buddy ..
We need to understand IT is a good thing too at-least its providing opportunities to so many graduates and Post Graduates ..
The international b-schools are not just diverse because of prev exp or background but also because they have people from various nationalities, which i feel makes a huge difference ..
@abhimukh19There is a very simple answer as to why International B-schools are diverse & miles ahead of IIM's....IIM Prof's should do a case study on pagalguy's WHY FINANCE/MARKETING/HRM thread & they will understand what they haven't been able to,since ages !!!!
But buddy whatever we shared came from the same education system .. which we say are not even close to international standards :)..
Anyways .. I am sure profs' at IIMs will be open to any idea brought infront of them .. Be it crowd sourcing knowledge on a MBA forum
Sir,to be brutally honest,if they would have been open to IDEAS they would have rejected 50% of the applications !! I mean, seriously,if someone wants to do an MBA & just 1 month before the interview he is trolling a forum seeking answer to " WHY MBA " then who is to blame ?? ;)
Sorry for my harsh words.Didn't meant to hurt anybody. :)
@RaJaT_76 Go for the job it'll be better to convert best iim if you can i hope next year hopefully you have better chance, anyways its all up to you Income Tax that to in Delhi is not bad Seriously... and you get sometime to improve your score in CAT or GMAT whatever you feel for plus you'll have your own money for Mba then
@RaJaT_76 Dude!!! Wake up and do some research. Leaving IT inspector for anything below ABC would be a regrettable decision mate. And new iims are strict no if you have anything which pays 5-6lk p.a. at the moment.

Buddy,
1. Yes, your work experience will be a valid one. Relevant or not will depend on the profile you apply to.
2. Yes, you may go for both GMAT and CAT with mix of experience.
Will suggest to go for another attempt and not join this year if few better ones among new IIMs are not converted.
@visionIIM-ACL ohk i got the point.. maybe the profile of a tax consultant will be suitable.. but hws that income tax inspector post in general ?..u have any idea ?..
@torqtechhey thnks for ur opinion.. actually i had the confusion between nmims, etc and income tax.. and have very little idea of that income tax post.. and u said regrettable decision !!.. is that post that good that it supersedes colleges like nmims, imt and all ??

Public sector work experience is very good. Why do you look at it negatively? You could easily make the jump to tax consulting post MBA.

Why would you leave a job that pays 40 k for a job that will pay 60-70 k AFTER 2 years education? Look at the opportunity cost. Indian recruiters are prestige whores, for some anything below ABC/xlri/fms doesn't cut it.
I have started preparation for Civil Services, 2014 recently. And I have zeroed in Public Administration as my first optional. And hence, I am planning to pursue MA(Public Administration) correspondance from some good university.
Can you suggest some good universities for pursuing MA(Public Administration) correspondance?
@apsingh1607 1. No profile will hamper your chances, till you have rationale for your decision.
2. what kind, i didnt get your question.. Difference ~~ Voice Ops - would be attending calls inbound or outbound and log tickets/responses. Non voice ops - would be other back end works such as admin setup, data mining etc.
