Hi friends!my profile10th- 85.3312th- 85.85b.tech(cs final year)- 70.32 (do not wanna join IT company)cat 2012-96.55 nmat-216 snap- 95.21I took cat after preparation from TIME. I am selected for narsee monjee for banking management but have decided to not to join.some results are still to come but I got a feeling that I should not do MBA.the reason is that most of guys selected in core-mba have work ex.annd other question in my mind is that is MBA worth the money (around total 16-17 lakh for nmims). I am thinking of getting a job first through SSC CGL which I can not give this year so have to wait for 1 year.and after 3-4 years i will do mba.for the meanwhile i have got many plans. what should I do? whether should I join MBA or follow the other path.I am 20 and from a middle class family but I don't have much financial problem. I am hoping that you guys can help me.

Ask yourself these questions.

1. After studying CS for four years, you're going to leave the sector. Why?
2. After preparing for MBA exams, getting a good percentile and going through the whole process you've decided not to do MBA now. Why?
3. Now that you're thinking of SSC CGL, what if you don't make it on the first go? Are you willing to sit and appear for other exams while you could've perhaps opted for a job from campus? You are keeping your career in a question. Always keep your plan B and C open.

If you think it is better for you to come back after a few years of work ex, good. But don't throw away immediate opportunities that come your way, to opt for something that is uncertain.

I did so. Getting almost good response for both of them.
By your knowledge ans wisdom, what would you suggest?

Comparing bschools is not encouraged here. As it can easily attract more arguments.

hey puys, I am confused as to how I go about getting my profile better. I wasn't that eager to get the grades in schools so never got 80%. in my university I got 7 cgpa. I work in a psu rt now.

but I want to move up. improve skill set. so I can get chosen for top order institutes. I would love to be managing projects but I am confused on everything else. Any suggestions?

Acads and scores cant be changed now. To improve your profile, you may look up some certifications wrt your field of work. In my personal experience, being proactive at work helps. It is not just about what you have been asked to do but also, about what else you can do or contribute to your team/projects etc.

PS: Profile is not the only thing that can ensure a top notch school.
@bhaduriarchit thanks for the reply.
well for the work i do, i cant get any xtra projects and its tough too. its gov company. psu. anything else i could study or do a good course to help get to my destination?
@i.am.amit Yes, what i meant was, take up more responsibilities within your team, if possible. Being a PSU, designation matters but it is always worth a try. 😃 You can definitely take up some certifications in your field of expertise. Also, you are really interested maybe some finance related certifications such as CFA etc would help. But, please note that doing such certifications need a strong rationale when it comes to Interviews.

@bhaduriarchit Don't mind if I am being totally frank here. I wanna do mba cos I don't wanna go for technical and I would love to do something which I can administer, fun to do and obviously compensate my hard work well. I just don't know there on.
@i.am.amit Agreed, but this cant happen overnight. For your application/profile to be considered, you will have to put something different on the table. It is just my opinion. Consider a case where the interviewers get an idea that you are doing MBA just to get a break from technical side, will it not look odd and have your candidature rejected?

hi i have a doubt as i wanna go for 2 yrs mba program and have got following callsnmims banglore, gim and tapmi as CAT ditched me with 87.89 percentile....have converted nmims banglore and given gim interview..if convert gim then will join it over nmims bangalore...but between nmims bangalore(considering nmims and location) and Tapmi (increased batch size )what should be my choice? looking for genuine advice....
NM Bangalore is a new college and a new college takes time to establish itself . Currently the market scenario is such that supply of MBAs has just overshot the demand by a long margin ..

hence a established college with a good alumni base , set of core recruiters should be chosen over a new college .. But also the batch size of the college is also important .. realistically speaking many of the colleges mentioned above may not have 100% placement this year ..

You want to get into management fair enough , you can either do it by a job shift or pursuing higher studies .. if its the latter why dont you start preparing for the entrances ..

Both colleges are in the same category .. Location advantage is with XIME .. @nean_1223 a topper at XIME can guide you better :)
@ambitiousviolet
"Doubt creates mountains and Faith tunnels through that mountain".
1)No one can guide you which is better for you whether you should go for finance or HR or Banking or blah blah.. I would advice you to brainstorm your mind and judge your options, analyse pro and cons and see which of the career options is going to give maximum satisfaction.
2)What I could perceive with your orientation is that you like finance and accounting. The kind of mid term goals like CFA, Equity research.
3)I guess you are looking for a job right now. Just focus on getting a good job which suits your profile and then pursue whatever you have planned.

Get rid of the doubt and start acting. Only way you can achieve your feat is with sheer handwork and faith. You can't have the resources to achieve them unless you have resourcefulness.

Do your job well , learn the maximum you can at your job .. it will surpass all certifications you can think of.. People make or break their calls in a PI where they discuss about their goals , aspirations , reason for doing MBA, how MBA can help you , field of interest , what have you done to pursue your interests .. and believe me half of the candidates dont even know their strengths or weaknesses
@abhimukh19 : Sir, I m 2011 B.Tech graduate but dnt have any work ex. (as I left my job bcz of some family problems). meanwhile I had worked under an NGO as a volunteer(near abt 10-11mnths). So, do I need to mention this (that I was related with an NGO) during my introduction or just while interviewer asked abt my gap.???

You can mention it while they ask you( to describe yourself, your professional and academic journey)
@abhimukh19 Thanks.. 😃 I also want to ask that what are the things we need to mention while describing our personality??
